TEST ASSAY RESULT UNITS BIOLOGICAL REFERENC RANGE

TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) 5.350 uIU/mL 0.270 - 4.500
Method : Electrochemiluminescence Immunoassay “ECLIA”

Note: The determination of TSH serves as the initial test in thyroid diagnostics.
There is a circadian rhythm of TSH secretion, with peak values at the onset of sleep and nadir concentrations during the afternoon hours. Peak
and nadir concentrations differ by approximately +/- 50%.
Certain physiologic conditions, such as illness, psychiatric disorders, and significant physical stress (eg, running a marathon), exposure to extremes
in temperature, negative energy balance), can produce marked variations in TSH levels.
The presence of autoantibodies may induce high molecular weight complexes (macro-TSH) which may cause unexpected high values of TSH.
Samples should not be taken from patients receiving therapy with high biotin doses (i.e. > 5 mg/day) until at least 8 hours following the last biotin
administration.
For diagnostic purposes, the results should always be assessed in conjunction with the patient’s medical history, clinical examination and other
findings.
