The teacher shows a few sentences on the board and asks the students to
identify the verbs. These are the example sentences:

● Jarren teases Kai because of her hair.

● Donna is singing her favorite song.
● They are dancing at the party.
● Ana runs in the hallway.
F. Motivation
“TEASER, TEASER”

Instruction: The teacher will tape 3 pictures on the board and write short
sentences beside each of them, but avoiding using their names. Instead, use a
replacement "he," "she," or "it" in place of their names. Let the students identify.

1. ___ is a singer known for her iconic song ‘Shake It Off’.

2. __ is a superhero who wears a red suit and can climb walls.

3. __ is a gadget that we use every day to call and text people.

The teacher will ask the students the following questions:

● What have you observed in the sentence/s?

● In sentence number 1 what does ‘she’ refer to? How about in the second
sentence? third sentence?
● How do the underlined words replace the nouns in the sentence?

A1. Activity
“LET’S RACE!”

The teacher will divide the class into two groups, and provide them with sentences
where replacers are missing. Have teams race to underline the correct replacement of
each sentence presented on the board.

The Sentences:

➢ (She/Her) is going to the mall later.

➢ The dog, named Christine, hurt (itself/herself) while playing.
➢ (This/These) are my books, not yours.
➢ Jarren and Kollette were best friends, (they, them) love eating leche flan.

A2. Analysis

The teacher will ask the students the following questions:

● How did you identify each sentence's correct replacer?

● Was it easy to identify them?
● Based on the sentences, how did the ‘replacer’ of the noun help make sentences
smoother and clearer?
● What role does gender play when selecting the correct noun replacer in a sentence?
Presentation of the Concepts and Discussion

“REVEALING TIME”

What is Pronoun?
● A pronoun is a word that is used to replace a noun in a sentence to avoid
repetition. Pronouns can refer to people, places, things, or ideas. They help make
sentences less repetitive and more concise.

Types of Pronouns:
● Personal Pronouns: I, you, he, she, it, we, they (used as subjects or objects
in sentences).
Ex: She is going to the store to buy some groceries.
They will be arriving late due to traffic on the highway.
We are planning a trip to the beach next weekend.

● Possessive Pronouns: mine, yours, his, hers, ours, theirs (indicate ownership)
Ex: The house with the red door is theirs.
Is this pen yours or hers?
Ours is the blue house at the end of the street.

● Reflexive Pronouns: myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves,

themselves (used when the subject and object are the same person or
thing).
Ex: She taught herself how to play the guitar.
They made the decision themselves without consulting anyone.
The cat groomed itself meticulously after playing in the garden.

● Demonstrative Pronouns: this, that, these, those (used to point

out specific things.
Ex: These are my books, not yours.
That burger is mine.
Those flowers are beautiful.

A3. Abstraction
“ALWAYS REMEMBER”

How To Effectively Use the Pronouns in the Sentence

● To effectively use pronouns in a sentence, ensure clarity by matching
pronouns with their antecedents. Avoid ambiguity by clearly indicating the
noun being replaced. Maintain consistency in pronoun usage throughout the
sentence or paragraph to prevent confusion.
● Consider the context to determine the appropriate pronoun type (personal,
possessive, reflexive) that fits the sentence structure. Finally, use pronouns
to enhance readability and flow while avoiding overuse or repetition for a
more engaging and concise writing style.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS:
➢ How does matching pronouns with their antecedents contribute to the clarity
of a sentence?
➢ How does maintaining consistency in pronoun usage help in enhancing the
flow of a sentence or paragraph?
A4. Application
“LET’S PRACTICE”
The teacher will instruct the students to write short paragraphs about the topic “A Day
In My Life As A High School Student”, consisting of proper usage of pronouns, with at
least 5 different types of pronouns. They will be guided with a rubric below:
