General Reminders: Use this learning activity sheet with care. Do not
put unnecessary mark/s on any part of the activity sheet. Use the
work sheets in answering the exercises. Read the directions carefully
before doing each task. Return this activity sheet to your
teacher/facilitator once you are through with it.

• Identify changes in matter

a. Physical b. Chemical
LS2SC-PS-PSF-LE/AE-5/ALS K to 12 BEC CG 2019, p.105

• Recognize that everything changes, nothing remains

constant, and the only thing which is constant is change.
LS2SC-SV-PSA-JHS-15/ALS K to 12 BEC CG 2019, p.78

1
Directions: Answer the following questions below. Decide if it is
Physical or Chemical change.

2
Make a simple experiment to the different materials and please
observed what happened to the materials. Take down notes on
which of the following experiment you performed undergo
Physical or Chemical Change.

Let’s Do This
a. Crush the soda can.
b. Cut the paper in any size you want.
c. Burning a candle.
d. Break the woods.
e. Light the paper.
f. Melt the ice cube
g. Mix 1 sachet off orange juice plus sugar into water.
h. Cooking egg

Let’s Answer
1. How do you feel while doing the experiment?

2. Did you list down which experiment you perform Physical
and Chemical Change?

What is change?

According to webster dictionary CHANGE is to undergo

transformation, transition, or substitution.

Do you believe in the saying that “everything changes, nothing

remains constant, and the only thing which is constant is change?”

Here are examples of changes brought to us by technology.

laptop for online class vehicles of transportation

smart phone for communication

4
In an objects or materials change can also be seen into two
different phases if matter for us to determine how different
substances of matter might react with each other. Let’s find out:

First, we have Physical Change

Physical Change- only change the appearance of a substance,

not its chemical composition.

Exact Appearance Change of Appearance but

not the composition of the
material (it is still a balloon)

Physical changes are used to separate mixtures into their

component compounds but cannot usually be used to separate
compounds into chemical elements or simpler compounds.

Cutting, tearing, shattering, grinding, and mixing are further types of

physical changes because they change the form but not the
composition of a material.

Here are examples of Physical Change I did a while.

o Crush the soda can

o Cutting the paper
o Break the woods
o Light the paper
o Melt the ice cube

Other examples of Physical Change

o Salt dissolved in water can be recovered by

allowing the water to evaporate.

5
o Mixing salt and pepper creates a new
substance without changing the chemical
makeup of either component.

o Boiling water is an example of a

physical change and not a chemical
change because the water vapor still
has the same molecular structure as
liquid water (H2O).

Second is the Chemical Changes

Chemical changes- occur when a substance combines with

another to form a new substance.

Mixing baking soda and vinegar to produce carbon dioxide gas.

Chemical changes are also known as chemical reactions. The

“ingredients” of a reaction are called the reactants, and the end
results are called the products.

Rotting, burning, cooking, and rusting are all further types of

chemical changes because they produce substances that are
entirely new chemical compounds.

Here are examples of Chemical Change I did a while.

a. Burning Candle
b. Light the paper.
c. Cooking egg
d. Mixing Vinegar and Baking Soda

6
Other examples of Physical Change

o Burned wood becomes ash, carbon

dioxide, and water.

o Rotten fruits the decomposition of

organic matter.

o Cooking Egg the heat from cooking

an egg changes the interactions and
shapes of the proteins in the egg
white, thereby changing its molecular
structure and converting the egg
white from translucent to opaque.

Why do we need to study the changes in matter?

Chemical reactions help us understand the properties
of matter. By studying the way, a sample interacts with other
matter, we can learn its chemical properties. These
properties can be used to identify an unknown specimen or
to predict how different types of matter might react with
each other.

Example of Changes of Matter Commonly Found in our House:

7
Activity 1

Directions: Identify which is the sign that best describes these

chemical changes. Draw a line to connect your answers.

Production of smoke

Formation of gas and

bubbles

Changes of smell and taste

Change of color

Activity 2
Directions: Using the different pictures below. Identify which of the
pictures shows Physical and Chemical Change. Put the correct
scenario in the prescribe column.

Breaking
a plate

8
Directions: Identify the changes of matter whether it is chemical and
physical changes. Write (P) for physical change and (C) for
chemical change. Write your answer in the box.
