PORTFOLIO

Ana Drucker

2024
I am a Mexican multidisciplinary artist based in Spain.

I work across different mediums like sculpture, glasswork, ceramics, and digital practices. My work is driven by two core
interests: a deep commitment to plastic and craft methods, and an exploration of the intersection between materiality and
digitality.

I am particularly fascinated by the stories that materials hold—their plastic properties, ecological impact, and historical
significance. Through a process-oriented approach rooted in research and experimentation, I delve into the intrinsic
qualities of materials, investigating their behaviour, applications, and potential combinations.

My work also explores the shifting boundaries between the real and the virtual. I begin with tangible, tactile materials and
gradually transform them through digital processes. I am interested in the convergence of the physical and digital realms,
and by the tensions that emerge when these worlds intersect and blur. In my practice, technology serves as a tool to
develop hybrid methods that both enhance and challenge our perceptions of reality and virtuality.

Currently, my research focuses on the combination of ceramics and glass, with an emphasis on experimenting with clay
and developing glazes. This involves creating new glazes from raw materials and modifying existing ones by incorporating
various found materials. A key area of investigation is the integration of waste glass into clay bodies and glazes, along with
the experimentation required to successfully combine these elements.
Simultaneously, I am exploring the digitalisation of objects through photogrammetry and the possibilities of 3D printing. I
am keen on blending traditional craftsmanship with digital techniques, creating pieces that bridge the gap between the
physical and the virtual.
LIBREROS I-IV
This project began with a series of drawings focused on form and
repetition. As the process evolved, I decided to transform these
drawings into ceramic pieces, adding a new dimension to the series.

The idea started as a way to explore the fine line between utilitarian
objects and sculptural pieces, examining what defines each category
and questioning what separates functional items from artistic objects.

I aimed to create a collection of pieces that functioned both as a

cohesive unit and as individual components of a unified process. The
forms and glaze explorations varied throughout the collection, yet
maintained a consistent format.

I created around 100 pieces exploring how different minerals and

materials changed clay bodies and existing glazes into new textures.

DECAY
The project examines the concept of decay by blending organic and virtual
forms. This series, crafted from foam, ceramic, and resin, investigates the
intersection of physical and digital realms, focusing on the tension between what
is perceived as real and virtual.

The work is presented as both physical sculptures and digital objects, altered
through various tools. The sculptures are intentionally crafted to emulate virtual
renders, and integrating elements commonly linked to decay-using distinct
textures, uncanny forms, gloopy surfaces, and shiny colors. These characteristics,
often perceived as eerie, are reimagined as symbols of transformation rather than
mere deterioration.

The sculptures were digitalised using photogrammetry, creating 3D models that

are incorporated into various digital projects, including a music video for artist
Lake Turner, an immersive film, and a spatial installation. These projects combine
AI, found footage, CGI, and photogrammetry to further investigate decay as a
transformative force in both physical and digital contexts.

OBJETOS VARIOS
This project showcases a curated collection of objects that I have created over
the past few years, focusing on material explorations across a range of mediums.
The work includes studies in bio-materials, ceramics, plant-based materials,
resins, wax, and various glazing and faux glazing techniques.

Through these objects I explore the possibilities of glaze formulation, mold-

making, and the interaction between ceramic surfaces, texture and color. I've
experimented with both traditional and alternative glazing methods.

Overall, this collection is an examination of the relationships between material

properties, form, and texture providing a comprehensive look at the outcomes of
these experiments.

GLASS & GLAZE
In the past year I’ve started to work with glass, learning about different
techniques, including flameworking, glass fusing, and glassblowing. As I began
learning flamework, I developed an interest in understanding the material
properties of glass.

This ongoing project includes experiments with both soft glass and borosilicate
glass, and the incorporation of materials such as gold, aluminum, and stones
into glass to study their interactions.

Another key area of this research is the integration of glass with ceramics. This
involves testing methods such as fusing glass into ceramic containers, applying
frit to clay bodies and glazes, embedding glass into bisque-fired pieces, and
adding blown and flameworked glass into fired ceramics.
