Week Date: June 10, 2024 – June 14, 2024_ Week No. _____1________
After being introduced to the Monthly Statistical Report (MSR), my partner and I began
reviewing MSR Report No. 5 for Project Mas-ing San Vicente Sip-Package 2 (Canal
Structures and Concrete Canal Lining) in Dagohoy, Bohol, covering the period from
January 1 to January 31, 2024. We dedicated the entire afternoon to checking the MSR
until the end of the workday.
June 11 Program, Cost & Checking of We continued checking the MSR No. 5, which I had not completed the previous day. 8
Monitoring Unit MSR Upon finishing MSR No. 5, I immediately commenced reviewing the Monthly Statistical
Report (MSR) No. 6 for Project Mas-ing San Vicente Sip-Package 2 (Canal Structures
and Concrete Canal Lining) in Dagohoy, Bohol, covering the period from February 1 to
February 19, 2024.
Compared to the previous report, the review of MSR No. 6 was more time-consuming
due to the greater number of canal section volumes and support bracing volumes that
required thorough verification.
We were tasked with checking the arithmetic of the reports for potential errors. During
our review, we identified several errors. The entire morning and afternoon were
dedicated to this meticulous process of verifying the Monthly Statistical Report.
June 12 HOLIDAY
June 13 Program, Cost & Checking of I arrived at the office on time and resumed checking MSR No. 6, which was left 6
Monitoring Unit MSR unfinished. Midway through the review, Engr. Jane Borja requested our assistance with
placing carbon papers in the MSR reports. While doing this task, we observed the
ongoing Monthly Contractor’s Forum held at the NIA Bohol-Siquijor Office Conference
& Strategy Room, led by Engr. Maritez Soria and Engr. Evaristo Borja.
Observed actual After placing the carbon papers, we listened attentively to the forum, gaining valuable 2
contractor’s insights into the process of how projects are initiated and monitored. It was a very
forum interesting session, and I was glad to witness it during my time at NIA.
The forum concluded at 11:30 AM, and we waited there until lunchtime for the provided
meal. After lunch, we returned to the office and continued checking MSR No. 6. Despite
our efforts, the extensive number of canal section volumes and support bracing volumes
requiring thorough verification meant we were unable to complete the review by 5:00
PM.
June 14 Program, Cost & Checking of We started the day by reviewing Report No. 6, which was left unfinished yesterday. 6
Monitoring Unit MSR Today marks the third day since we began reviewing this report; however, due to some
circumstances, we were not able to complete it as quickly as we had hoped. In the
afternoon, we finally managed to proceed to the next Monthly Statistical Reports, No. 1
and No. 2 of the San Vicente SRIS (Construction of Canal Structures and Concrete
Canal Lining) at Dagohoy, Bohol by the Reber Enterprises and Construction.
Inventory Around 3 PM, we were gathered in the next room for the task of cutting letters for 2
inventory purposes. Engr. Higeline gave us a quota to complete this activity by 5 PM.
With the assistance of other employees, we were able to finish it on time.
Week Date: June 17, 2024 – June 21, 2024_ Week No. ______2________
Engineer Kibir demonstrated the procedure and allowed us to personally perform the
test. We took turns conducting the test while others recorded the data. Due to our
lack of experience, it took us some time to complete the tests, requiring six trials. We
then spent the remaining time of the day performing calculations.
June 19 Soil Sample On the second day of testing, Engineer Jessie Kibir and Mr. Dennis June Lerin 8
Construction/ Testing explained two additional types of tests that they commonly conduct: the liquid limit test
Improvement/ and the plastic limit test. These tests are crucial for determining the water content at
Rehab Sub-unit which soil changes states, providing important information about the soil's properties
and behavior. These tests are essential for understanding soil consistency and
predicting its performance under various conditions.
Compared to the compaction test, these tests were easier as they did not require much
physical force. However, due to our inexperience, it took us the entire day to complete
both tests. Despite the challenges, we gained valuable insights and practical skills that
will be beneficial for our future work in soil analysis.
June 20 Soil Sample We recorded the data gathered yesterday and focused on calculations today, with the 8
Testing assistance of Engineer Jessie Kibir. These calculations required us to apply our
knowledge of Excel, and Engineer Kibir explained the formulas we needed to use.
Recording the data accurately was crucial as it ensured the reliability of our results. We
meticulously entered the data into spreadsheets, double-checking for any errors.
Engineer Kibir guided us through the process, highlighting the importance of precision
and attention to detail.
The calculations involved using specific formulas to analyze the test results. Engineer
Kibir provided a thorough explanation of these formulas, demonstrating how to input
them into Excel and interpret the outputs. This hands-on experience not only enhanced
our understanding of soil sample testing but also improved our proficiency with Excel,
an essential tool in engineering analysis.
June 21 Site Inspection We conducted an onsite inspection at Boyog CIS in Balilihan and Calumsan Sal-ing 8
SIP in Balilihan, Bohol, alongside Engineer Jessie Kibir and Mr. Dennis June Lerin to
gain practical knowledge and experience in the field. This opportunity was invaluable
as it allowed us to observe real-world applications of the concepts we have been
learning in our civil engineering studies.
During the inspection, we followed the canal from the section where pipes needed to
be installed, to the siphon, and finally to the dam. Along the way, Engineer Kibir
provided detailed explanations about the functions and importance of each
component in the system. He discussed the engineering principles involved in the
design and construction of these structures, emphasizing the critical role they play in
water management and irrigation.
This was our first site inspection, and we were excited to witness the actual projects
that the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) is undertaking. Observing the various
stages of construction and the methodologies used in the field greatly enriched our
understanding of the practical challenges and considerations engineers face in real-
world scenarios.
Moreover, interacting with the engineers and technicians on site allowed us to ask
questions and gain insights into their day-to-day responsibilities. This hands-on
experience not only enhanced our technical knowledge but also inspired us to think
critically about our future careers in civil engineering. Overall, the inspection provided
us with a broader perspective on the importance of our studies and the impact of our
future work on society and the environment.

June 25 Soil Sample We input data into Excel for the sieve analysis, specific gravity, and absorption tests 8

ensuring accuracy in our results
Designing of Additionally, we reviewed the ACI 211 Method for concrete design mix from the
Concrete Mix textbook. This guide provided us with insights into proportioning concrete ingredients
based on the desired strength and workability, which is essential for successful
construction projects.
June 26 Soil Sample We conducted the unit weight determination and wash loss test which involved 8
Testing evaluating the soil's resistance to erosion and its composition by assessing the amount
of material that washed away during the testing process.
Engr. Kibir then instructed us to start making a concrete design mix using the Absolute
Volume Method, as outlined in our training materials. This method allowed us to
accurately calculate the proportions of each ingredient in the concrete mix based on

By the afternoon, we continued working on the Monthly Statistical Report (MSR) for
Program, Cost & Checking / the Lazi-Maria Small Irrigation Project for the year 2023. This involved compiling data 4

July 5 Program, Cost & Inventory The entire morning was dedicated to cutting and folding of the 21-page plans that will 8

in cutting the excess paper from the plans and folding them for easier access.
Additionally, we began addressing the pending items in the Program of Work. Unlike

July 9 Construction / Concrete Mix We visited the EB Testing Center together with Mr. Dennis June Lerin, to conduct a 8
Improvement / Design compressive strength test on our 7-day concrete mold trial mix sample, which was
Rehab Sub-unit prepared using the concrete design mix we created. The results showed that the
concrete design mix passed the test, confirming that our mix was successful and met
the required standards.
July 10 Construction / Site Inspection Engineer Jessie Kibir and Mr. Dennis June Lerin took us for a site inspection at 8
Improvement / Gabayan CIS, Candijay, Bohol, to conduct a rebound hammer test on the canal with
Rehab Sub-unit the employees from the EB Testing Center. We had the opportunity to perform the test
personally, with guidance from the EB Testing employees on how to use the device.
And in the afternoon, we proceeded to the next site inspection at Dagohoy to perform
the same rebound hammer test on the flume of the canal.
July 11 Program, Cost & Checking of For the entire day, we focused on checking the Monthly Statistical Report (MSR) and 8
Monitoring Unit MSR reviewing the billing and Daily Inspection Reports (DIR) for Hermcor Construction and
Supply, as well as Reber Enterprises and Construction. This involved ensuring
accuracy and completeness in the documentation, verifying project progress, and
cross-referencing data to ensure all financial and operational records were in order.
July 12 Construction / Site Inspection We conducted a site inspection at Calumsan Sal-ing SIP and Boyog SIS in Balilihan, 8
lmprovement / Bohol. Today marked the turnover of the Canal Intake Project at Sal-ing, Balilihan. This
Rehab Sub-unit inspection and turnover event allowed us to observe the completion and handover
process, providing valuable insights into project management and execution.

July 16 Site Inspection We conducted a site visit to Sal-ing, Balilihan, where we obtained dimensions for 8
the calculation of volume and performed a canal stationing survey. This also
involved a 3 km walk along the main canal and laterals to measure distances
accurately using a measuring wheel.
Following this, we proceeded to Boyog Sur, Balilihan, for a site inspection focused
on the installation of pipes. These activities provided us with practical experience
in surveying and inspecting infrastructure projects, enhancing our understanding
of field operations and construction techniques.
July 17 Concrete Design Mix We visited the EB Testing Center to conduct a compressive strength test on the 8
Estimation of 14-day concrete mold trial mix sample with Mr. Dennis June Lerin. In the
Concrete and Rubble afternoon, we focused on the volume calculations for the Sal-ing Balilihan intake.

July 18 Site Inspection Engr. Jessie Kibir and Mr Dennis June Lerin took us to conduct site inspections 8
at Boyog SIS in Balilihan and San Antonio SIS in Sagbayan, Bohol. These
inspections allowed us to assess the progress of ongoing projects, evaluate
construction techniques, and observe site conditions. Engaging with the project
teams on-site provided valuable insights into the practical aspects of civil
engineering and reinforced our understanding of project management in the
field.
July 19 Estimation of We continued our calculations of the volume for the Sal-ing intake, focusing on 1
Concrete and Rubble the necessary dimensions and quantities to ensure accurate project planning.
Masonry In addition, we conducted the liquid limit and plastic limit tests on soil samples
Soil Sample Testing from Garcia Hernandez. These tests are critical for determining the engineering
properties of the soil, such as its plasticity and consistency. Performing these tests 7
deepened our understanding of soil mechanics and its importance in foundation
design and construction practices.

July 24 Field Density Test Coducted a field density test at Tugas-Can-olin SRIS in Candijay, accompanied 8
by Engineer Kibir and Mr. Lerin. This test is essential for determining soil
Site Inspection compaction and ensuring the stability and quality of the roadbed. Working
alongside experienced professionals allowed us to gain practical insights into the
testing process and its significance in maintaining construction standards. And
following the field density test, we performed a site inspection at Bilar.
July 25 Site Inspection Today, we conducted material testing and observed the installation of galvanized 8
iron (GI) pipes at Boyog SIS in Balilihan. The material testing ensured that the
pipes met the required specifications and quality standards for the project.
Observing the installation process provided us with valuable insights into best
practices and techniques for handling and installing GI pipes, further enhancing
our understanding of construction procedures in civil engineering projects.
July 26 Program, Cost & Making of Turnover We focused on preparing the turnover documents for the Ka-Akot CIS for the 8
Monitoring Unit documents year 2023 at Bonkokan Ilaya, Lila. This involved compiling all necessary project
information, to ensure a smooth handover to the relevant stakeholder.
