SCHOOL VISION
We at Vasant Valley School believe that each child entrusted to us will receive education in its finest
form. Learning is a life-long process and all students and teachers are challenged to exceed their own
expectations. This holistic experience synergises the growth of mind, body and spirit. We nurture
and prepare generations of individuals; the torchbearers of tomorrow who believe in the strength of
their own convictions and take pride in being Indian. They will work together in the spirit of Global
Citizenship. Our work in school shapes the future and no constraints shall daunt us.

Introduction
Vasant Valley School, New Delhi established in 1990, is a private day school with a current enrollment of
1,350 in classes Foundation to Twelve. The school campus spreads over eight acres and has fully equipped
laboratories libraries, gymnasium and sports facilities.

School Philosophy
All learning in school is centred around five areas of development - Social, Emotional, Cerebral, Physical
and Spiritual. These Areas of Development are the essence of good citizenship, which nurtures students to
become responsible and sensitive members of the community.

Whilst high academic achievement is a priority, the school aims to create a ‘community’ of well-rounded
individuals where there is a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect. Performing Arts, Visual Arts and
Physical Education form an important part of the school’s curriculum.
The school organizes many activities throughout the year where qualities such as leadership and self-
discipline are nurtured. Students take responsibility for their actions and progress, through goals they set
for themselves on their Road Maps; this is the first step towards self-awareness, accountability and integrity.
The pastoral care in the school is strengthened through the tutor – tutee system, which acts as a scaffolding
to help students realise their goals.

Vasant Valley School encourages students to imbibe the essence of environmental values and ethics in order
to live in harmony with nature. Students work towards developing a sense of responsibility towards all
living beings. This is achieved through life skills classes, trips outside school, talks by environmentalists,
film shows, nature walks, adventure camps, vermicomposting, recycling paper and reducing food waste.
During the festival of Deepavali saplings are distributed to all students and teachers.
The Outreach Programme encourages active participation in community service initiatives in the school.
The students participate in awareness initiatives like visits to hospitals, paper recycling, education of the
less privileged and hygiene in villages etc. The students of the senior classes contribute to community
service for 50 hours in the year. This includes traffic duty in the morning, teaching students after school
and other self-directed programmes both in and outside of school.

Inclusion for children with special needs has been integral to the vision of Vasant Valley School since the
very beginning. They are given additional support in all areas of development. A multi-disciplinary team
of special educators, occupational and physical therapists, and speech and language therapists work with
children to ensure they are able to actualise their potential.

Academic Curriculum
The school is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) which conducts the All India
Secondary School Examination in Class10 and the All India Senior School Certificate Examination in Class
12. It is a rigorous curriculum, which caters to admission in top Engineering, Medical, Law and Liberal
Arts programmes in India and abroad. In Classes 11 & 12, the school offers over 20 subjects at the Elective
level, each student is required to take four Electives along with English, and there is no gradation within
these Elective subjects. The students are free to choose any combination of subjects. We could give an
example here. Students study the subjects for two years (classes 11 & 12) and then they take the All India
Senior School Certificate Examination at the end of class 12.

Covid-19 Changes
A typical school year has over 200 student – teacher contact days. The academic year 2020-21 began on
10th January 2020. However, with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020 and the resultant
advisory from the government, we switched to an online version of school on the 16th of March 2020.
Currently we are conducting online classes for all grades, in accordance with the guidelines from the
Government of India as well as local advisories.

All assessments and evaluation in the form of examinations, reviews and assignments, have been conducted
on online platforms. The students' transcripts for the first semester (two learning cycles) of Class 12 remain
the same as every year, as the school was able to conduct one set of examinations physically in February,
before the nationwide closure of schools. Thereafter, we have held examinations online.

A robust and well-structured Outreach programme was an essential element of the Vasant Valley School
experience. This included numerous field trips, tree plantation and community cleaning drives as well as
post-school classes for children from a neighbouring slum cluster. This year , the closure of schools as well
as a stringent lockdown advised by the Government has forced us to keep all Outreach activities on hold.
However, all non-academic activities, both Inter-House as well as Inter-School, have been conducted as per
schedule on an online platform. Many of the sporting events had to be cancelled in order to adhere to the
safety guidelines prescribed for the containment of Covid-19.

Faculty
The school has 174 members of staff, out of which 110 members hold a postgraduate degree.

Class Ranks
The school does not assign a class rank to students.

School Awards
Vasant Valley School gives four kinds of awards: Excellence Awards, Subject Awards, The Grade Card
Distinction Award and Proficiency Award.
Awards for Excellence are given to students for excelling in all fields of endeavour. In order to get these
awards students, need to surpass benchmarks in all aspects of school life. These awards are given in classes
10 & 12.

Subject Awards are given to all those students who have surpassed benchmarks for excellence in a particular
subject in classes 9,10 &12.

The Grade Card Distinction Award is given to students who maintain an overall weighted average of over
85% in an academic year in classes 9 – 12.

Proficiency Awards are given to students of classes 9, 10 and 12, who excel in a particular sport, any
performing or visual art.

Academic Reports
The school year has been divided into two terms and each term is further subdivided into four learning Cycles;
the first term consists of two Learning Cycles, and the second of three (two) Learning Cycles. A report is issued
at the end of each learning cycle.

Students Performance in the Class 12 CBSE Examinations
