In this project, I will talk about a movie that was originally a book called "The Perks Of Being A
Wallflower". This movie talks about the life of a teenager, whose name's Charlie, and deals with
depression and anxiety. He carries with himself a lot of different traumas that came from things he
lived in his past, but still haunt him in the present. In the movie, we accompany him in a new era of
his life, he is entering high school and for the first time in a while, he makes two friends, Sam and
Patrick.
Life, Love and Friendship are three topics that I coudn´t leave behind when talking about this
movie. It's very interesting seeing how Charlie handles these three different things. First, he didn't
know the feeling of actually feeling alive, and this has nothing to do with breathing or your heart
beating. It's about the feeling of adrenaline when you're doing something and, in that moment, you
feel so good and so happy to be alive that you wish you'd never had wasted so much time just
complaining about you life. Second, he had never experienced love that wasnt from his parents, and
once he got to experience it, that love also made him feel more alive than ever. And to finish,
friendship, such a delicate topic for him, but he showed us that with the right people, you can go
through everything, and be so much happier.
The reason why I have chosen this movie to be the center of my project is that this movie has had
such a big impact on my life and i have learned so much from it. And dont really know how to put
into words, but them, Charlie, Sam, Patrick, especially Charlie, made me want to live my life in a
way I have never lived before, to create new memories everyday with the right people, to go out
more, to really appreciate the moments with my family and in general, to live more.
I identify with Charlie a lot, and that's how I am related to this movie. The view he used to have of
life is very similar to how I used to see life, in 2021. It was a dark period of my life, and when I saw
this movie, with the main character having the same thoughts as me, I felt hugged, it felt like I
wasn't the only one feeling like that, and that brought me a giant comfort.
In order to explain and talk about more details of this movie, let's start talking about where all this
trauma that Charlie carries with him came from. So, first, Charlie lost his closest and only friend to
suicide years before his high school years, and he also lost his favorite aunt, who was very close to
him in all his childhood years. Anyone can imagine how hard going through all this stuff can be,
and Charlie was in a very sensitive time of his life before starting school again, and it's in that
moment where the movie begins, when he is back to school.
His first days were lonely, as he expected, but soon enough he made two new friends, who suddenly
save him from the dark period he was in. Sam
and Patrick were responsible for good part of
Charlie's recovery, and they were essential when
talking about the way Charlie evolved after
having lived certain experiences by their side.
Talking only about Sam now, she was the one
who showed Charlie what a romantic love was really like. She was his first kiss and love, and he
certainly loved her with all his heart.
Personally, I think Sam was such a big character, she showed Charlie a side of love he hadn't seen
before, she also made him realize he was actually being abused by his favorite aunt, who had died,
when he had his first experience with her, it was a big shock to him, but it was very good that she
helped him with that trauma and supported him all the time he was recovering. Patrick is such an
amazing friend too, he made Charlie feel so comfortable with his own body and his attitude was
really that type of friendship that everyone wants in life. And Charlie, what to say, he is my favorite
character of all times; I relate to him more than I wanted, and of course he makes me feel hugged all
the time. His development was such a big thing to me, the way he was in a deep depression and
with the time passing in the movie he became a whole new person, who isn't afraid to live and is
actually happy with his life in the present even after everything he went through. This is all a big
inspiration to me.
The reason why I like this movie so much is that it shows real life, with real characters, with real
feeling, you know? It isn't a fairy tale where everything is fine and everyone is okay, it actually
shows the people who are watching that it is okay to not be okay, everyone goes through bad
phases, it isn't the end of the world, and when you least expect it, wonderful people will enter your
life and make you feel more alive than ever. And also shows and teaches many things about love, in
fact, one of the famous phrases in the world of films belongs to this film, which is ''we accept the
love we think we deserve''. This sentence brings us many reflections on the love we accept
sometimes to be so little.
This movie won several awards, and it has very positive reviews, I personally have never met
anyone who dislikes it, everyone I know loves it with all their hearts, like me.
And I still haven't read the book, but the first time I watched the movie was in the begging of 2021,
and it has been my favorite movie ever since.
The car scene is one of the most beautiful scenes I have ever seen. It's the moment when Charlie is
with the people he loves the most in the world, and he's feeling completely free, and happy to be
alive.
From this project, I learned that I really should write more about the things that I like in english,
especially because it is such a good and creative way of practice of the language.
In the process of writing, I actually had so many little things that got in the way. For example, I
always pass the entire week studying for the tests I have every friday in school, and my only time
for this project was in the weekend, but in most of them I almost didn't stop at home, so it was a big
rush to finish writing everything.
I loved doing this project, it made me realize how much I like to write, and I'm going to keep
writing about things like this so that I can develop my english more and more. And I thought it
would be so much harder, I even was a little scared before starting, but it tourned out to be a thing
that I had so much fun doing, and it was all very easy.
Things I would do differently if I had to do all over again is to talk about another thing that it isn't a
book or a movie. I would love to talk about a county, and I definitely would put more effort into it.
It would be more organized and I wouldn't do everything in a rush.
One thing I didn't know I liked before doing this project is to analyze more deeply the meanings
behind the movies and books. Because each movie brings a message with it, and interpreting and
reflecting on it can sometimes change your perspective on something or even teach you something
new. And I also didn't know how good and comfortable it was to write things in english, besides
manipulating my creativity, it helps a lot to practice my writing.
And to finish, I think doing this project had more positives than negatives, and I really had a good
time going it. I didn't even know I had the creativity to write four whole pages talking about a
movie, but I found that I do, and I could easily write a lot more. The only negative part was actually
doing everything in a hurry, and sometimes it interfered with my time when I would be studying for
school, but despite everything, it was such a fun project to make.
