Xuan La is an old village located in Phu Xuyen District, Ha Noi. The village is famous for its
traditional craft of making to he (tò he), a unique Vietnamese art form that has existed for over
300 years.
To he figurines are made from glutinous rice powder and come in various shapes, including
animals, trees, flowers, and characters from folk stories. It is said that to he was originally made
to be dedicated to the gods on festive days so the figurines often used to be in the shapes of
animals.
Despite their apparent simplicity, creating these figurines requires honed skill and a keen eye
for combining colors to bring them to life. Artisans use their own hands and basic tools like
small combs and bamboo sticks to shape these delightful figurines.
Today, although to he cannot compete with modern toys in both city and countryside markets,
it is one of the few surviving traditional toys of Viet Nam. To he creations still attract both
children and adults. Xuan La remains the most well-known village in the country for preserving
this unique art, and to he remains a sweet childhood memory for many Vietnamese people.

Tan Cuong tea is a renowned specialty from Thai Nguyen, situated 75 kilometers north of Ha

Tan Cuong Tea is one of the most exceptional tea products from this region. What makes it
unique is the method of nurturing tea trees with organic fertilizer, ensuring they are free from

from the passage.
Now more than ever, teens are under immense pressure to look a certain way. Studies show
that social media significantly increases the risk of body dissatisfaction in teens. Contents on
social media may contain unrealistic beauty standards as well as dangerous “diet advice”. Many
teens give priority to achieving such standards, so they imitate the eating patterns of
influencers, models, and celebrities. This can harm their physical and mental health.
It is completely normal for everyone to want to fit in and look a certain way. However, it is
essential to never put one’s health at risk in order to lose weight or change the body shape.
Teens should be aware that their body will change as they grow and develop, and there can be
fluctuations in body weight during adolescence. Eating nutritious foods and staying active can
keep them healthy and happy.
If teens struggle with their body image or body weight, they should tell a healthcare counsellor
or other adult. If they are not comfortable telling an adult in their life, they can reach out to a
health hotline for support and resources rather than following untrusted diet advice on social
media.

How social media affect teens’ mental health
In a recent study, more than one-third of teens say that they are using social media sites such
as YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and Facebook. There are certain risks to teens’ mental health
when they overuse social media.
First, too much use of social media can occupy their time for other important activities. They
may be reluctant to be in person with friends and family or not get enough sleep. If these
problems continue in a long time, teens may suffer from stress and anxiety. Second, contents
on social media may be violent, dangerous or inaccurate. Watching violent acts may give teens
the sense that aggression is normal and acceptable. This may lead them to behave aggressively
as what they see online. Social media can also present idealised images of people, which may
result in increasing worries about body image in teens.
All in all, it is important that parents encourage healthy social media habits for their teens. They
may do so by establishing family rules about social media use, being a role model of healthy
internet use, and having ongoing conversations with teens about their activities on social
networking sites. These should be done on a regular basis.

Visitors to “Remembering Viet Nam” will have the opportunity to see a fascinating and varied
selection of records from the National Archives and its Presidential libraries. The records on
display help fill the gaps in our collective memory about what happened and why. They make
people understand more about the series of choices, strategies, and personalities as a result of
the involvement of the US in Southeast Asia.
There are historic items including posters, artwork, telegrams, radio intercepts, photographs,
artefacts, official documents, and letters. They span 1918 - 1975 and are considered critical to
understanding the conflict and its origins.
Of special interest are the audio recordings, some of which have only recently been
declassified. The exhibition includes several listening stations, including an “Oval Office
Listening Area,” where visitors can pick up one of three phones to hear conversations held by
Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon.
The exhibition also is an opportunity to hear stories from a variety of perspectives. Everyday
people whose lives were forever impacted by the conflict - some voluntarily, some
involuntarily - share their experiences.
At a kiosk, visitors will be able to submit their own thoughts about what happened and how it
affected them. Selections of those contributions will be displayed in the exhibition for visitors
to read.

The Industrial Revolution was a period of major mechanisation and innovation that began in
Great Britain during the mid-18th century and early 19lh century and later spread throughout
much of the world. The first Industrial Revolution began in Great Britain in the 1700s and
1800s, dominated by the exploitation of coal and iron, and was a time of significant
innovations. 11 led to many other inventions including the assembly line, telegraph, steam
engine, sewing machine, and internal combustion engine, and left a profound impact on how
people lived and the way businesses operated.
The Industrial Revolution created an increase in employment opportunities. With the advent of
factories during the 18lh century, people began working for companies located in urban areas
for the first time. Although the wages were still low, and conditions were harsh, people could
earn better than farming. As more populations migrated to urban areas to search for jobs, there
were also significant improvements in city planning. Education was improved, resulting in
groundbreaking inventions such as the sewing machine, X-ray, lightbulb, calculator. These
inventions are in fact still significant today.
The Industrial Revolution also changed the way people worked and lived. It enabled higher
productivity in factories and made life more comfortable at home.

VIII. Read the passage and choose the correct answer A, B, C, or D.
Back in the 19th century, on the Iowa frontier, most homes had to produce nearly all their own
needs. They lived on farms that raised much of their own food, and children became an
important part of the family team. They learned to contribute to the family’s survival at an early
age. They gathered eggs, worked in the garden, carried in wood and water and perhaps cared
for younger brothers and sisters. As girls got older, they learned to cook, sew, preserve food
for the winter, do the washing and care for the sick. Boys helped their father with the livestock,
planting and harvest, hunting, and maintenance of buildings and fences. Their opportunities for
education were limited to whatever a nearby school offered. When there were heavy demands
for their help on the farm, like during corn picking, older boys had to stay at home to help.
However, life for Iowan children has changed a lot. It has become much easier in many ways.
And with the invention of computers, the internet and cell phones, children have greater
opportunities to connect with friends and the outside world.

Nowadays, things have changed dramatically. New tools like emails and instant messages have
become an integral part of our daily communication. They offer speed and convenience,

took me to his village, and I had the most thrilling but the most frightening experience in my

The village is a peaceful place by a river, with green fields around. We stayed for a week in

pleasant and exhilarating to sit on the buffalo, watching the scenery around, and listening to
birds singing. Tam sat before me on the buffalo, supervising it to wade through the river or the
rice field. I experienced the happiest days in my life until the fourth day when an accident
happened. When Tam urged the animal to run faster, and faster, we felt overjoyed. Then
suddenly I loosed hold of Tam, and fell down. I felt hurt and terrified; but luckily I wasn’t
heavily injured. I still remember the terror until now. Anyway, it was indeed a “once in a

The Dead Sea
Located in the Syrian-African Rift Valley between Jordan and Israel, the Dead Sea is the lowest
point on Earth. Because of its location and the fact that it has no outlets, the Dead Sea is also
one of the saltiest bodies of water on the planet. The salt concentration here is around 34%.
This high concentration gives the Dead Sea mud rich minerals, which is good to treat some
skin problems, but at the same time, prevents all forms of life except bacteria in the lake.
The Dead Sea’s fascinating characteristics, despite the dangers, make it an amazing place to
visit. However, the lake has been shrinking fast. Today, Jordan’s need for water has caused the
Jordan River which feeds the Sea to be diverted for irrigation. This diversion affected the Sea
so dramatically that the water level fell 22 metres between 1970 and 2006. As the water level
continues to fall, both Israel and Jordan are trying to find ways to save this natural wonder.
One such project plans to desalinate and add large quantities of brine to the lake. This is not
simple, as adding any chemical substances to the lake would have unknown consequences.

What is Sports Tourism?
Sports tourism is travelling from one region, country, state, etc. to engage or participate in a
sports-related activity. Sports tourism combines the passion for sports with the desire to
experience new experiences or destinations.
While sports tourism has not always been extremely popular, it is definitely on the rise. A
recent report estimates the value of the global sports tourism market was $587.87 billion in
2022. The industry is expected to grow at a rate of 17.5% through 2030. The popularity of
events like the Olympic Games, the NBA, and the FIFA World Cup have contributed to this
growth. While these events have economic short-term benefits for an area, they can be a
catalyst for longer-term tourism development opportunities.
In 2004, the World Tourism Organisation (WTO) and the International Olympic Committee
(IOC) issued a joint statement that illustrates the strong dynamic between sports and tourism,
“Tourism and sports are interrelated and complementary. Sport - as a professional, amateur or
leisure activity - involves a considerable amount of travelling to play and compete in different
destinations and countries. Major sporting events, such as the Olympic Games, football and
rugby championships and auto racing have become powerful tourism attractions in
themselves - making a very positive contribution to the tourism image of the host destination”.

Ecotourism is a booming business that many tour operators cite as being helpful to nature.
Every year, millions of people descend on protected and pristine natural areas to observe rare
species. However, a new report casts doubt on the value of this form of tourism. In fact, it
suggests that ecotourism is more damaging than helpful to nature. Details are in a report
published in the journal ‘Trends in Ecology and Evolution’. Researchers believe tourists are
disrupting animals in their natural habitat. They pointed to a recent event where sea turtles in
Costa Rica had problems laying their eggs because of tourists who flocked to watch the turtles’
nesting habits.
The report says that ecotourism is making animals bolder and that this could endanger the
animals. A regular human presence might make animals tamer and less cautious about other
animals around them, and this could put them at risk of being attacked by their natural threats.
“Then they will suffer higher mortality when they encounter real predators,” the report says.
The report said it was essential, “to develop a more comprehensive understanding of how
different species in different situations respond to human visitation and under what precise
conditions human exposure might put them at risk.”

The ocean covers 70 percent of Earth’s surface and contains about 97 percent of all the water

viewed from space.
For thousands of years, people have depended on the ocean as a source of food. It offers human
beings a wide range of seafood. Fishers catch more than 90 million tons of seafood each year.
Millions of people, from professional fishers to business owners like restaurant owners and
boat builders, depend on fisheries for their life.
People also use the ocean as a route for trade. Ships carry loads of goods from continent to
continent, country to country. Ocean ports are areas where water and land transportation meet.
It is also the meeting point of people of different professions: businesspeople, who import and
export goods and services; dockworkers, who load and unload cargo; and ships’ crews. Ports

X. Read the passage and answer the questions in short.
The importance of forests
Forests cover nearly a third of all land on Earth. Here are three main reasons why forests are
so important.
1. They are home to various species, including millions of humans.
Forests, especially tropical rainforests, provide organic living habitats for nearly half of the
world's land-based species of animals, plants, and insects. About 300 million people live in
forests worldwide, of whom about 60 million depend almost entirely on native woodlands.
Many millions more live along or near forest fringes.
2. They keep us cool
Trees create vital oases of shade on the ground and help buildings stay cool. This reduces the
need for electric fans or air conditioners. Large forests can regulate temperatures in regions,
including cities. Trees and forests also have another way to beat the heat: they remove much
of the carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. This helps fight climate change.
3. They prevent flooding and soil erosion
Forests absorb much of rainwater and slow down its fast flow. This helps prevent soil erosion
as well as protect surrounding communities from landslides and floods.

3D printing technology was introduced in the 1980s and has evolved significantly ever since.
A 3D printer turns a whole object into thousands of tiny little layers, then makes it from the
bottom-up in layers of material. There are many applications of these printers. For example,
they are used to create medical implants, household items, and fashion accessories.
One of the major advantages of 3D printers is that they make use of different kinds of materials
like plastic, metal, or food ingredients. Therefore, by using 3D printers, people can reduce
material waste. In addition, they can create complex and customised objects that traditional
manufacturing methods cannot produce.
However, there are some drawbacks to consider. 3D printing can be timeconsuming, especially
for large or tiny objects. Also, the cost of purchasing and maintaining a 3D printer can be
relatively high. The quality of the printed objects may vary depending on the type of printer
and materials used. Certain materials used in 3D printing, such as plastics, may not be as
durable as those produced through traditional manufacturing methods.
Despite these drawbacks, the potential applications of 3D printers continue to grow. As
technology advances, 3D printing offers even more opportunities for innovation and creativity.
1. In the 3D printing process, the printer builds the three-dimensional object by placing down
many ________ of material.
2. 3D printers are useful in many fields such as medical care, home applications and ________.
3. One advantage of 3D printing is that it helps reduce ________.
4. Making too big or small objects with 3D printers can be ________.

Identify your skills and interests: It’s important to understand your range of skills and
knowledge to see if they fit the job you’d like to do. You may make a list of all your transferable

Explore career ideas: Compile a shortlist of around five to ten jobs, before considering the
advantages and disadvantages of each in terms of career development, employment outlook,
requirements, job description, salary and conditions, and training.
Make a decision: To help make a decision, ask yourself the following questions:
● Will I enjoy doing the job every day?
● Does it meet most of my preferences?
● Do I have the right skills?
● Are there any limitations I need to take into account?
● Is the job realistic in terms of salary?
Set achievable goals: Your career plan should outline how you’ll get to where you want to be,
what actions are needed and when, and separated into your short, medium and long-term goals.
Constantly review your progress, especially after each short-term goal is reached.
