INTRODUCTION
Integrated farming systems have gained recognition for their ability to enhance productivity,
sustainability, and profitability in agriculture. This proposal outlines a comprehensive plan
for the integration of cow, goat, and poultry farming. Such a system leverages the synergies
between different types of livestock to improve resource use efficiency, reduce waste, and
increase overall farm productivity. this project aims to boost local food production, create
employment opportunities, and contribute to the overall economic growth of Southeast
Nigeria.
Objectives
1. Enhance Farm Productivity: Utilize the complementary characteristics of cows,
goats, and poultry to boost overall farm output.
2. Improve Resource Efficiency: Optimize the use of feed, water, and land resources
through integrated management.
3. Increase Profitability: Diversify income streams and reduce risks associated with
single-crop or single-animal farming.
4. Promote Sustainability: Implement environmentally friendly practices that reduce
waste and improve soil health.
5. Economic empowerment: Create job opportunities and improve the livelihoods of
local farmers and communities.
6. Capacity building: Provide training and support to local farmers on modern animal
husbandry techniques

INTEGRATION STRATEGY
1. Land Use Planning:
✓ Designate separate but adjacent areas for cows, goats, and poultry to optimize
space and reduce disease transmission.
✓ Implement rotational grazing for cows and goats to maintain pasture quality.
✓ Allocate specific areas for poultry to forage, enhancing pest control and soil
fertilization.
2. Nutrient Cycling:
✓ Collect and compost manure from all three types of livestock.
✓ Use the composted manure to fertilize pastures and crop fields, closing the nutrient
loop.
3. Feed Management:
✓ Develop a feed plan that utilizes crop residues, kitchen waste, and farm by-products
to reduce feed costs.
✓ Incorporate multi-species grazing to maximize pasture utilization and improve
forage quality.
4. Health and Biosecurity:
✓ Implement strict biosecurity measures to prevent disease spread between different
livestock species.
✓ Regularly monitor the health of all animals and provide necessary vaccinations and
treatments.
5. Water Management:
✓ Ensure adequate and clean water supply for all livestock.
✓ Use efficient watering systems to minimize waste and prevent waterlogging in
pastures.
BENEFITS
1. Economic Benefits:
✓ Diversified income sources reduce financial risks.
✓ Increased overall farm productivity leads to higher profitability.
2. Environmental Benefits:
✓ Improved soil health through organic manure application.
✓ Reduced reliance on chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
1. Social Benefits:
✓ Creation of employment opportunities in rural areas.
✓ Enhanced food security through diversified production.
IMPLEMENTATION PLAN
Phase 1: Planning and Training
✓ Conduct feasibility studies and resource assessments.
✓ Provide training to farmers on integrated farming practices.
Phase 2: Infrastructure Development
✓ Construct necessary facilities for housing cows, goats, and poultry.
✓ Develop composting sites and water management systems.
Phase 3: Initial Integration
✓ Introduce livestock and begin integrated farming practices.
✓ Monitor and adjust the system based on initial performance.
Phase 4: Scaling Up
✓ Expand the system based on successful pilot results.
✓ Promote the model to other farmers and stakeholders.
