ash-shaytan ir-rajim")

I. Objectives:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
Understand the meaning and significance of Isti'adha.
Recite Isti'adha properly.
Apply Isti'adha in daily life situations, particularly before beginning the
recitation of the Quran or when feeling fear or anger.
II. Content
Definition of Isti'adha: Seeking refuge in Allah from Shaytan.
The wording: "A'udhu billahi min ash-shaytan ir-rajim" ( أعوذ بالله من
)الشيطان الرجيم.
Importance:
1. Seeking protection from evil influences.
2. The practice of the Prophet (PBUH) before reciting the Quran
and in other contexts.
Situations where Isti'adha is recommended (before Quran recitation,
when entering the bathroom, during anger, etc.).
III. Learning Reference
Qur'an verses: Surah An-Nahl (16:98) – "So when you recite the
Qur'an, seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Shaytan."
Hadith references related to Isti'adha.
Islamic studies textbooks or reputable online sources.
IV. Procedures
A. Preliminary Activities
Drill:
Start by having the students practice saying Isti'adha together as a
class, correcting pronunciation as needed.
Review:
Briefly review previous lessons about the etiquette of Quran recitation.
Ask questions such as:
1. "What do we say before reciting the Quran?"
2. "Why do we seek refuge in Allah?"
Motivation:
Share a short story or scenario where seeking refuge in Allah (through
Isti'adha) helped someone overcome anger, fear, or a challenge.
Ask students if they have ever felt overwhelmed and wanted
protection.
B. Developmental Activities
Presentation:
Explain the meaning of Isti'adha in detail and its significance in a
Muslim's life.
Discuss when and why we say Isti'adha.
Provide examples of situations where it is recommended to say
Isti'adha.
Performing the Activity (Differentiated Instruction):
Group 1: Younger students can work on memorizing the phrase and
practicing it aloud.
Group 2: Intermediate students can create a poster showing when to
say Isti'adha and why it is important.
Group 3: Older students can reflect on personal experiences and write
a short essay on how seeking refuge in Allah helps in difficult
moments.
C. Assessment:
Oral Recitation: Listen to students individually or in groups recite
Isti'adha to check for correct pronunciation.
Written Quiz: Ask students to write the translation of Isti'adha and
list scenarios in which it should be said.
Reflection: Have students share how they feel Isti'adha can benefit
them in everyday life.
