POWER LOSS; DIFFICULT ENGINE START
Symptom
Difficult engine start
Power loss
The following fault code is present:
P0171 - System too lean (bank 1)
Cause
Faulty in-tank fuel pump
Solutions
Connect the diagnostic tool
Read out the fault codes
Delete all the fault codes
Engine control unit:
Select function 08 (measuring values)
Select channel 03, field 1
Check the engine speed (rpm)
Expected value at idle speed: 700 - 900 rpm
Select channel 03, field 2
Check the inlet manifold pressure
Expected value: 310 - 315 mbar
Select channel 33, field 1
Check the upstream oxygen sensor parameters
Select channel 36, field 1
Check the downstream oxygen sensor parameters
Procedure if any of the following conditions are observed:
The fault code re-occurs
Lean mixture
Connect a pressure gauge at the low-pressure fuel pump outlet
Expected values:
With vacuum hose connected: 3.5 bar
With vacuum hose disconnected: 4 bar
10 minutes after starting the engine 2.5 bar
Check the fuel flow
For approximately 30 seconds
Minimum value: 0.55 L
If the values are too low, proceed as follows:
Check the low-pressure fuel circuit for clogging
Check the low-pressure fuel circuit for leaks
In-tank fuel pump:
Check the wiring
Check the electrical connections
Rectify any faults found
