Chapter 1:Series
There are two types of series

1) Number series

2) Alphabetical Series

Concept of Number Series:

Number series is a arrangement of numbers in a certain order, where some numbers are wrongly put into
the series of numbers and some number is missing in that series, we need to observe and find the accurate
number to the series of numbers.

Different types of Number Series:


There are some formats of series which are given in Exams.

Perfect Square Series:

This Types of Series are based on square of a number which is in same order and one square number is
missing in that given series.

Example 1: 441, 484, 529, 576?

Answer: 441 = 212, 484 = 222, 529 = 232, 576 = 242 , 625 = 252.

Perfect Cube Series:

This Types of Series are based on cube of a number which is in same order and one cube number is
missing in that given series

Example 2: 1331, 1728, 2197, ?

Answer: 113 , 123 , 133 , 143

Geometric Series:
This type of series are based on ascending or descending order of numbers and each successive number is
obtain by multiplying or dividing the previous number with a fixed number.

Example 3: 5, 45, 405, 3645,?


Answer: 5 x 9 = 45, 45 x 9 = 405, 405 x 9 = 3645, 3645 x 9 = 32805.

Prime Number Series:-

2, 3, 5, 7, 11 , ……….

Addition/Subtraction by a common number:-

Ex:-11, 14, 17, ? , 23

Difference between successive number are 3.

Multiplication/Division Series:-

In this pattern, a certain number is multiplied or divided with the previous number to get next number in
the series.

Ex:-15, 30, 60, 120, 240,

In this pattern each previous number is multiply by 2.

Ex:-5172, 2536, 1268, 634, 317

In this pattern each previous number is dividing by 2.

1. Series of difference between consecutive numbers.

2. Difference between consecutive numbers will follow a pattern.

Ex:-30, 46, 78, 126, 190, 270 , ?

Difference between 30 & 46 is 16

Difference between 46 & 78 is 32

Difference between 78 & 126 is 48

Difference between 126 & 190 is 64

Difference between 190 & 270 is 80

## Whenever you see a decimal number in series, your guess for the number should be a decimal digit or
division process. Here too a decimal number is multiplied or divided to form this series.

If difference between consecutive numbers does not follow any patterns, try these patterns:

(Number series is a vast topic, there always an exception cases)

Alphabet Series:

There are 26 letters in Alphabetical series. So remember this letter with the position value.

The first half of the alphabet series is from A to M and the half is from N to Z.

A-M –1-13 (First Alphabetical Half)

N-Z—14-26(Second Alphabetical Half)

So if you remember these intervals, It would be helpful in solving alphabet series problem.

Chapter 2:Coding Decoding


Coding – Decoding is a method of encrypting a message before transmitting it to someone, which no third person
can understand without knowing the key. Coding – Decoding is an integral part of the Logical Reasoning section
if you understand this topic well, you will be able to solve these questions in next to no time, making it very
scoring. By reading the tips given below, you will be able to crack Coding-Decoding with great accuracy and
ease

Coding is a process in which a word, a number, or a series of combination of words and numbers is expressed in a

particular code or pattern based on various rules. You have to answer the questions based on these set of rules.

Decoding is the process of (interpreting) deciphering the coded pattern and reverting it to its original form from the

given codes. Hence, you are required to understand the logic behind the coding pattern and then apply this logic to

find answers.

Handy Tips:

1. Letter positions as per English Alphabet Series: (A=1, B=2, C=3, D=4…….Y=25, Z=26). To learn this,

remember a shortcut for the position of letters i.e. EJOTY where E=5, J=10, O=15, T=20 & Y=25)

2. Letter positions as per reverse English Alphabet Series (A=26, B=25, C=24 …., Z=1)

3. Corresponding letter of each letter i.e., the pair of letters at the same distance from start and end of the English

Alphabet Series (A is opposite to Z; B is opposite to Y, and C is opposite to X and so on) and to learn this one

can use different acronyms for e.g. for AZ –> AZar; BY –> BYe; CX–> CruX; DW–>DeW and so on. This topic
