singular and plural nouns Singular and Plural Nouns - Mixed Review
Articles
In English there are three articles: “a”, “an”, and “the”. Articles are used before nouns
Rule # 1: Use the article “a” only with a singular count noun, use “a” before nouns that begin with a consonant sound.
Examples:
1.A book 2. A lemon 3. A dog 4. A car 5. A chair Rule
Rule # 2: Use the article “an” only with a singular count noun, use “an” before nouns that begin with a vowel sound.
Examples:
1. An actor 2. An egg 3. An Orange 4. An insect 5. An apple
Rule # 3: Use the definite article the with any noun (whether singular or plural, count or no count)
a) Use the article ”the” when a particular noun has already been mentioned previously.
Example:
I ate an apple yesterday. The apple was juicy and delicious.
b) Use the article ”the” when the noun refers to something or someone that is unique.
Examples:
The theory of relativity
The 2003 federal budget
c) Use the article “the” when is more than one.
Examples:
The brown chairs
The children are playing at the playroom
BE CAREFUL: The Sound of the first letter is important, for example:
1. A European (y)
2. An Uncle >>>>A University (Y)
3. A Hospital >>>>> An Hour (our)
4. An Umbrella >>>>a Union (Y)
5. A Uniform (Y)
Let’s work together
adding the article to
each sentences.
Imperatives
We can use imperatives to give orders and instructions.
Wait quietly before class.
Be nice to your brother or sister.
Don't forget your bag!
How to use them
1. The imperative is the same as the verb. We use the verb without you.
Help your parents at home.
Play quietly!
2. For a negative order or instruction, use don't.
Don't run in the corridors.
Don't be late!
3. Use please to be more polite.
Please put the plates on the table.
Don't make so much noise, please.
