1 CHANGE INDICES TO LOGARITHM AND VICE VERSA

1 . ax = y
log a y= x

1.3.1 Change Index to Logarithm

x a kuasa x sama dengan y

a =y
log ↔ x
Log bermaksud kuasa, maka perkataan log dan
kuasa berada pada tempat yang berlainan. Tulis
ini dulu

log a y=x Kemudian masukkan base a . Base bermaksud

subscript kepada perkataan log, maka tulis a
bawah sikit dari log, bukan sebaris dengan log.
Kita sebut log y asas/base a
Then tulis y sebaris dengan log
sama dengan x

Example 1.3.1

Change the following Index into Logarithm form :

i. 52 = 25 ii . P 4 = q
log ↔2 log ↔ 4
log 5 25=2 log p q=4

iii. 10 = 3√1000 iv . n = mr
1

10 = 1000 3 log ↔r
log ↔
1 log m n=r

v . 1024 = 4 5 vi. 8 f = Q L
log 4 1024=5 log Q ( 8 f ) =L

Bila dah mahir, terus jawab, tak

perlu 2 langkah kerja.

Exercise 1.3.1

Change the following Index into Logarithm form :

i. 34 = 81 ii . N 3 = 5
log 3 81=4 log N 5=3

iii. 73 = 343 iv . L = Q s
log 7 343=3 log Q L=s

v. √9 = 3 vi. 5
√32 = 2

9 =3

32 =2

log 9 3= log 32 2 =

1.3.2 Change Logarithm to Index

log a y=x Pindahkan asas/base a ke

sebelah dan x jadi kuasa.

Bila base a dah pindah,

x
y =a perkataan log hilang dan yang

tinggal hanya y.

Example 1.3.2

Change the following Logarithm into Index form :

i. log 3 9=2 ii . log p Q=7

9 = 32 Q = P7

iii. log7 49=2 iv . H = log P D

49 = 72 P H =D

Exercise 1.3.2

Change the following Logarithm into Index form :

i. log 4 64=3 ii . log t N =5

64 = 4 3 N = t5

1 iv . c = logM D
iii. log 125 5=
3 M c =D

5 = 125

In the calculator, there are only 2 bases to be calculated :

1) Common logarithm : Base 10

On a calculator it is the "log" button

Example :
log 50 =log 10 50
2) Natural logarithm : Base e (exponent) Ingat ni

On a calculator it is the "ln" button Ln bukan in

Example :
ln 50 =log e 50

Try this example :

i) Log 100

ii) Ln 100

Do both give the same answer ?

Then how to evaluate

log 3 9 and log 4 21 ? We will learn this in the next subtopic.
