ENGINEERING
DESIGN DIVISION Solderless Breadboards EDD 111 - F 2024
• A solderless breadboard is a tool to allow for easy
circuit prototyping
• Components can be plugged into(or unplugged from) the
board
• This allows you to assemble/disassemble temporary circuits

ENGINEERING
DESIGN DIVISION Solderless Breadboards EDD 111 - F 2024
• Internally, the solderless breadboard connects different
points in the board:
• In the center of the board, in this standard
example, connects points in groups of 5
• A – E in each column are connected as are F - J
For example, something plugged
into 3-B would be connected to
something in 3-D

DESIGN DIVISION Solderless Breadboards EDD 111 - F 2024
• Internally, the solderless breadboard connects different
points in the board:
• Each of the four bus strips (long sides of the board) connect
all the way down the length of the board
For example, items
plugged into any of
these holes would
be connected

For this example, we’ll be creating the schematic for this circuit.

DESIGN DIVISION Electrical Schematic EDD 111 - F 2024
While you can start with any component you would like, I
generally either start with the power source or the most
complicated part
9V
Note: The direction of the battery symbol is important
since batteries are polarized components, (one side is
The indicated battery clip is for positive and the other negative). For this symbol, the
a 9V DC power source positive side is indicated by the longer line.

DESIGN DIVISION Electrical Schematic EDD 111 - F 2024
As shown earlier, a solderless breadboard contains
internal connections for each group of 5
In this case, the positive lead of the battery is
connected with one other item

R2 is a fixed-value resistor of 1 kΩ (1000 Ohms.)

Since nothing else was connected to
the positive lead of the battery, we
can just draw one connected right to
the other

The other side of R2 connects to a row with
three items. This connection will be shown
as a node.

One of the two other items connected to the node
is a 1 mF (1000 μF) Polarized Capacitor (with the
positive end plugged into the node)

9V 1000 μF
Note: As in the symbol of the battery, the direction that you draw the
symbol of the Polarized Capacitor is very important. If it is backwards, it
will not work.

another node.

This node is connected back to the battery
through the green wire.

the symbol of the LED is very important. If it is backwards, it will

Fusion 360
Lab 07 - PreLab Gieskes, K. – 24
ENGINEERING
DESIGN DIVISION Autodesk Fusion 360/Eagle EDD 111 - F 2024
• Autodesk Fusion 360 is a comprehensive package that
can be used for all types of Computer Aided Designs
• We will be using it primarily for the creation of Circuit
Schematics
• This is installed on the CAE and LN-G104 Only systems
accessible via bingview.binghamton.edu
• The Autodesk suite uses some
cloud-based features, so you’ll
need to use the link below to
create your account so that you
can log into it when using the
products:

• Before you move on, make sure you have completed
the “Get Started” account creation step so that you have
access to the software.

• The following short video shows some of the basics of
schematics in Fusion 360:

DESIGN DIVISION Recommended Steps To Take EDD 111 - F 2024
• I recommend building the Schematics in the following
steps:
1. Open Fusion 360 and start a new schematic
2. Save it as Last_First_PreLab_07.sch
3. Add in additional libraries as shown in the next slide
4. Add in all the components and set their values
5. Use the net tool to connect all of them according to the
circuit
6. Reorganize the parts to ensure that it’s clear and legible
7. Submit the completed schematic to brightspace.
8. Done.

ENGINEERING
DESIGN DIVISION Additional Libraries EDD 111 - F 2024
• You’ll need to add some additional libraries for this
PreLab:
Since some of the parts are not included in
the default libraries, click to open the
library manager
Select the following Libraries to be
added to the “In use” libraries:
“Potentiometer_Trimmers”
“SparkFun-Batteries”

As is shown in the video, to add parts to a schematic in Fusion 360, you have to find them in the library.
Here are the locations in the library for the parts in our circuit.
You can use either
R or R-US versions
of the resistors for
the circuit
While there are many
Potentiometer symbols
that could be used, this
one is a good one.
