Dear Mr.

Seidel,

How have you been? I hope you are doing well. I have had tremendous
improvements throughout my grade 11 semester 1 and I am happy to report it to you
about it.

First, the computer science course has taught me python which I am very grateful for
this skill set. Throughout the course, I have not only learned python so that I could
understand the workings behind the digital interface I interact daily, but also furthered
my knowledge on large language models and machine learning beyond basic
understanding by self learning and reading through a few books on it . I am interested in
learning more because of the potential to supersede the greatest human achievements
by history's brightest minds and bring a rapid development to human civilization,
eventually reaching a point of technological singularity in the near future. By learning
about large language models, not only could I get a better understanding of the future,
but also provide me insight on the structure of our mental framework in the viewpoint of
language and object association by transferring my knowledge on it. Coding has also
allowed me to have a greater patience and passion for problem solving by preserving
through the bugs, believing that I will eventually solve them by seeking help and resting
to not let myself drown in stress. They are both essential basic skill sets to possess for
achieving any commitments.

Second, beyond the computer science course I had adopted a greater passion for
life, enduring even through stress by school and setbacks/failures in my goals, which
caused self doubt in the past me, and had sometimes extinguished my passion for
learning and life itself, falling into a negative emotional spiral, feeling that everything is
meaningless since I couldn’t even live out the ideals I believe in, the world that I strive
for is out of reach and I am trapped in a mundane world. I still emotionally suffer from
setbacks, if I am being honest, but I have learned to embrace challenges because if I
encounter them it means that I still need to grow, and facing it upfront is the only way to
do so. It’s about adopting a positive mentality and a growing mindset. When facing self
doubt instead of sending myself a barrage of insults that I am not good enough, I have
faith that I have the capacity for change, as long as I stay strong in my resolve, the
ability to change everything and strive to live in a better world is only in my hands and
no one else. When I am trapped into the emotional spiral once again, I remind myself
once more of that fact and the real world is too full of potential and excitement beyond
my wildest imagination for me to drown in despair.
Third, I have learned how to better manage time management and set goals for my
future. I have now understand that you can’t just wait for motivation out of nowhere as
an excuse to delay action because of my fear of failure and indulgence in temporary
pleasure, you have to act it out immediately to proof to yourself that you are capable of
acting out those plans, which are typically the “insurmountable” psychological barrier
towards success(the fear of failure). Once I had started to do it , the goal ceased to only
be an idea floating in the mind but an actual pursuit. You don’t gain motivation from
waiting for a sudden spark, you gain motivation from action regardless of what you feel
initially. Every morning, I write a to-do list on my whiteboard and track my productivity
through a weekly scoresheet based on the amount of tasks I have succeeded in
completing to keep myself more accountable. I also wrote rules on the whiteboard, like
how I should not check my phone except if it is related to my goals. It worked and it
actually lessened my stress for the future, speaking of stress I have also learned to not
overthink about things I currently cannot change and that I need to immediately act out
the solution I think of if possible. I have also set long term research projects that last for
3 months, typically with the end goal of producing a thesis to further my knowledge on
different fields.
Warm Regards,
Hayley
