Italiano 102 – Spring 2023
Progetto Finale
Emory
Final Project: You are creating a short promotional video to convince your peers as to why they
should study in your Italian city the next time they go abroad (you will sign up for this city in class).
Think of this as an elevator pitch. Your classmates will choose where to go next after hearing about
all the study abroad options in Italia. How many students can you win over?
STYLE: You will use photos/screenshots, video clips, maps, etc. to visually show us your
city and university, and then we’ll ask you to record yourself talking over the images. Feel
free to add music, too, if you wish.
Use a software of your choice such as iMovie, VoiceThread, PPT, or any other digital storytelling
app that you may be familiar with. For VoiceThread, you can add your media and then record your
audio or video audio across your media. If you have access to iMovie, here is a quick tutorial on how
to make an easy digital story on iMovie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBaLjtRwca4
LENGTH: Your video should be about 3-4 minutes long.
LANGUAGE: You will be using a combination of tenses:
To talk directly to your audience (your classmates) you might find presente, condizionale,
and/or imperativo helpful.
To talk about what students can do in general, you’ll probably use the presente tense.
Italiano 102 – Spring 2023
To talk about what you (or you and your partner) did as an example of what is possible
there, you’ll want to use passato prossimo (or imperfetto if you did it often).
ESEMPI:
Com’è la vita nella tua città? Cosa c’è da fare?
o Da’ degli esempi (give some examples): Che cosa hai fatto di bello nel tuo tempo
libero?
Dove si mangia bene (where can you eat well)? Quali piatti sono tipici/tradizionali nella
tua città?
o Hai una ricetta preferita? Hai imparato come fare questo piatto? È possibile fare
lezioni di cucina nella tua città? Ecc.
Durante i weekend che cosa possono fare gli studenti che vengono in questa città?
o Ad esempio, che cosa facevi tu? Sei andato allo zoo? Al mare? Ai musei? Ai posti
storici? Ai concerti? (di chi? Che tipo di musica? Quali canzoni?) Ecc. ecc.
Altro? (let your creativity take over…what would be interesting and fun for other
students? What would convince them to study abroad in Italy, specifically in your town?)
*PARTNER OPTION: If you would like to do your project with a partner you can!
With a partner the length will be 4-5 minutes instead of 3-4.
You both will be promoting your “combined program,” where students would spend half the
semester in one city and half in the other. You can present this combined program in
whatever way you see fit, as long as you both speak for an equal amount of time.
Logistics:
● Due May 1.
● Practice reading your prepared script a few times before you record it so it
sounds smooth (you do not need to submit your script).
● Don’t forget to practice your pronunciation! “Perché” (pearr-KAY) versus (per-
chay) or “Ho” (oh) versus (ho), Words with “c” only make a “k” or a “ch” sound—
not an ssss sound, ecc. ecc!
● Post a shareable link to your story on Canvas.
● Grading will be based on:
○ Effort
○ Originality/Creativity/Engagement
○ Pertinent use of Italian
○ Quality of Italian
■ Comprehensibility and pronunciation
