METHOD STATEMENT FOR CONCRETE CRACK
REPAIR OF SUSPENDED SLAB
1. PURPOSE
This method statement outlines the procedures to be followed for carrying out the repair of
concrete cracks at suspended slab with approximately maximum width of 3 mm & maximum length
of 0.5 m.
2. MATERIALS
Approved material for concrete crack repair
3. TOOLS
Injection pump
Grinder
Low speed drill mixer or any applicable mixing tool
Blower
Aluminum tubes (~Ø 6 mm)
Clean mixing container
Application tools (i.e., trowel, spatula, etc.)
Rags
4. MANPOWER
Site personnel will assure the proper execution:
Site Engineer
QA/QC Engineer
Safety Officer (On Guard)
Skilled Workers
Note: Provision of additional manpower if needed
5. WORK PROCEDURE
Clean the cracks - The very first step is to clean the cracks that have contaminants such as oil,
grease, dirt or fine particles. Because such contaminants prevent epoxy penetration in the
cracks to be repaired. For this reason, cleaning is required.
Checking of crack – Pour water directly over the length of the cracks to determine whether the
cracks pass through the slab soffit. Check for occurrence of dripping water on the surface of the
slab soffit. In case of visible dripping water on the slab soffit, same procedure will be followed
on repairing concrete cracks on the top surface of a suspended slab.
Install the entry and venting ports - When the cracks are v-grooved by using a grinder, drill
holes below the apex of the v-grooved section spaced approximately 200 mm to 300 mm,
depending on the width of cracks to be treated, at a minimum depth of 50 mm. But when the

cracks are not v-grooved, an entry port is to be bond a fitting flush with the concrete face over
the crack. Using a blower, remove drill debris and dust. Insert aluminum tubes into injection
holes. Repeat this operation for the entire area in stages.
Sealing of the surfaces - Surface cracks should be sealed. It is used to keep the epoxy from
leaking out before it has gelled. This can be done by applying an approved epoxy, polyester or
other appropriate sealing material to the surface of the crack and allowing it to harden. Once
cured, apply pressurized air to all entry and exit holes (one hole at a time) to determine if there
will no leaks and/or blockages during the injection of epoxy.
Mixing of epoxy – Mix by hand using a trowel for small amounts or with a low speed drill
mixer for large quantities until the mix is completely homogeneous. While mixing, try to avoid
the formation of air bubbles.
Injection of epoxy – Inject the epoxy immediately after its preparation with a suitable pump
starting from the tube at the lowest level. Proceed with injection until the pressure is still
manageable or until the epoxy resin overflows out of the exit holes. Close the lower tube and
continue injecting until the entire length of the crack is completely sealed.
Removal of excess material - Once the injected epoxy has cured, cut all protruding tubes and
grind excess resins to level the concrete surface.
6. SAFETY
Continually use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
Developing and maintaining safe work practices reduces the risk of injury.
Always use the suitable tools /equipment for the job.
Make sure the working area is kept clean for easy access and protect edges of opening by
barricading while working.
Ensure the area of working is well lighted (provided with lights) so that work area is easily
accessed and moved around safely by workers.
Furthermore, the safety matters shall comply to project Health and Safety Plan.
