MATERNITY

Know how to deliver the placenta by Control cord traction.

ANTENATAL CARE (ANC)


1) ANC
NB. Candidates should be able to
. Diagnose Pregnancy (probable signs and
• Know the purpose for ANC and relate it into Preventive, curative and
health promotion aspects.
• Periods for ANC visits
• Booking clinic, what is done during the booking clinic(lab
investigation ,weight ,height, blood pressure )
• Filling the ANC card
• Calculation of EDD from the last LMP and gestational age
• Health Talk , and importance
• Preventive aspects( TT calendar, IPT ,Malaria etc)
• Promotive aspect(hygiene ,healthy feed, dressing, exercise etc)
• Curative(Treatment of minor illness in pregnancy)
• Subsequent visits( Purpose, importance, Lab investigations)
2) PHYSICAL EXAMINATION DURING ANC
NB. Candidates should be able to
• Conduct a proper physical examination from head to toes during ANC
• Inspection (The abdomen, size ,shape,strai gravidarum , CS scar etc)
• Palpation (types of palpation, know the lie of the baby and presenting
part.)
• Measuring fundal height (importance and significance )
• Auscultation( Listen and identify fetal heart sound, normal fetal heart
etc)
3) Planning for delivery
NB. Candidates should be able to
• Help the woman plan for delivery with respect to hospital, who will
take her to the hospital when labor begins, monetary preparation,
and material preparation.

SURGICAL NURSING
1) Wound Dressing

• Aseptic techniques in wound dressing
