1. Enter the online simulation Pascal’s Principle (hydraulic press)using the following link:

Pascal's Principle Lab

2. In the simulation you will observe a hydraulic press with two pistons.
3. Set the radius of piston 1 at 30 mm and its mass at 230 g. Set the radius of piston 2 at 50
mm. Using the previous formula determine the mass (F2) that must have piston two in order to
have the system in equilibrium, that means, if you pull the pin of the
4. Take a screenshot of the simulation that demonstrates that calculations made in step 3
(weight 2) are correct.
a. The screenshot will be the evidence of your practice and you should add it in your
digital document and show it when required.
4. Make a new practice with different data (of your choice) and add it to the collaborative
document.

5. To finish this part of the learning evidence, write a reflection in your document about:
a. The use of a simulator as a tool to understand Pascal's Principle.
b. Advantages and disadvantages observed for the development of competence in the
knowledge of this principle.

In this practice we see Pascal’s Principle that states: pressure changes, at any point of any
point of an enclosed and resting fluid, are transmitted to all points of the fluid and act it in all
directions. This practice was kind of easy, it showed us in a visual way how this principle
works, we believe this could help us to better understand how it works
Archimedes’

EXPERIMENT 1
Sphere Weight Apparent Thrust force
weight (E)
1 0.4 0.3 0.1
2 0.5 0.4 0.1
3 .25 .15 0.1
What conclusion do you draw?
With this practice we can conclude that when all the spheres have the same volume but different weight
the thrust is going to depend of the density of the object, the greater the density of the body, the greater
the thrust force.

EXPERIMENT 2
Sphere Weight Apparent Thrust force
weight (E)
1 0.4 0.3 0.1
2 0.5 0.35 0.15
3 0.3 0.2 0.1
What conclusion do you draw?
We can conclude that the thrust is going to depend of the volume, the greater the volume of the body,
the greater the thrust force.

EXPERIMENT 3
Body Weight Apparent Thrust force
weight (E)
1 0.4 0.3 0.1
2 0.4 0.3 0.1
3 0.4 0.3 0.1
What conclusion do you draw?
We can conclude that when the density, weight and the volume of the bodies it’s the same, the thrust
force is going to be equal for all the bodies

EXPERIMENT 4
Sphere Weight Apparent Thrust force
weight (E)
1 0.4 0.3 0.1
2 0.4 0.2 0.2
3 0.4 0.35 0.05
What conclusion do you draw?
The weight, density and volume of the bodies it’s the same but the density of each liquid it’s different,
so the grater the density of the liquid, the grater the thrust force

EXPERIMENT 5
What conclusion do you draw?
The thrust force is not affected by the depth; the thrust force varies according to the volume of the
object or the density of the liquid.

EXPERIMENT 6
Submerged 0 5 10 15 20

(cm3)
Dynamomet 0.5 .45 0.4 .35 3
er weight A
(N)
Dynamomet 0.2 0.25 0.3 .35 4
er weight b

Submerged 5 10 15 20
volume (cm3)
Thrust force 0.05 .1 .15 .2
Dislodged water .05 0.10 0.15 0.2
weight (N)
What conclusion do you draw?
The volume of the body that is submerged is the same volume that will be displaced from the liquid. the
thrust force will be the same as the displaced water.

Personal reflections
At this stage we learned about some topics, among them Pascal's principle and Archimedes. I think
that these problems and information help me a lot s to have the opportunity to get into physics because
it is very interesting. - Preciado Hurtado Fátima Kassandra
At this stage, I learned about topics like Pascal's Principle and Pascal's Principle, which are the themes that are
seen in this evidence. What he learned from Archimedes' principle was that it is the physical principle that states:
"A body totally or partially submerged in a fluid at rest experiences an upward vertical push equal to the weight of
the dislodged fluid." Moreover, from Pascal's principle I learned that it says that when a pressure is exerted on a
fluid, it will be exerted with equal magnitude in all directions and in each part of the fluid. - Mendoza Vázquez
Rubí Esmeralda

In this stage, I learned about Pascal's and Archimedes' Principles and how it works so they
give me the knowledge about the pressure and what she does in the substance that is
applied.- Ramos Vielma María Fernanda
In this stage, we learn about density, pressure, etc. we also see Pascal’s principles and Archimedes’ principle.
With the Archimedes’ principle, we learn concepts like the thrust force. With all that we learn We can conclude
that when the density, weight and the volume of the bodies it’s the same, the thrust force is going to be equal for
all the bodies The weight, density and volume of the bodies it’s the same but the density of each liquid it’s
different, so the grater the density of the liquid, the grater the thrust force The weight, density and volume of the
bodies it’s the same but the density of each liquid it’s different, so the grater the density of the liquid, the grater the
thrust force. The volume of the body that is submerged is the same volume that will be displaced from the liquid.
the thrust force will be the same as the displaced water- Pérez Herrera Isela Alejandra

I think the most important in this stage was that we learned about Pascal´s Principle and Archimedes´
Principle, which i think both were a little difficult to me, because I’m not so good in physic. These topics
teach us how to calculate the pressure and what this do in the substance to which it is applied.- Reyes
Rodríguez Rosa Catalina
I learned that Archimedes' principle applies to objects of any density and that Pascal's principle is
the key to the operation of hydraulic presses, a type of machine is taken as the basis for creating
brakes, elevators and other devices that are used in industries; anyway it is still difficult for me to
do the problems, too many concepts for me.- Ramírez Saucedo José Emmanuel

Physics principles are a really captivating topic, because a lot of them are manifested in things we
see regularly or common things we pay little attention to, while, unbeknownst to us, there's so
many interesting things happening everywhere, at all times. Like we learnt in this Stage,
Archimedes' principle is the physical law of bouyancy, something we see commonly but don't think
much of. Even something as simple as ice in a glass of water is connected to Archimedes' principle;
Pascal's principle, though less common than a solid object floating in a body of liquid, is still quite
common in non-scientific areas, and the fact that physics surround our very existence at all times is
really interesting to me.- Padrón Pérez Marcelo
