Company Description
Hebei Yogomo Automobile Manufacturing Limited Company held a
foundation-laying ceremony of a new electric vehicle (EV) plant in
Huishan District, Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province, on August 29, 2016.
Hebei Yogomo Automobile Manufacturing is a car manufacturer
established in May 2009. A new plant is built on a site of 520,000
square meters as a manufacturing site of one of Hebei Yogomo
Automobile Manufacturing’s group companies. The plant will
manufacture 2-door/2-seat electric coupes, 5-door/5-seat EVs,
electric sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and an electric small delivery
trucks, after the operational launch in the end of 2017. The plant
will have an annual production capacity of 150,000 units and is
expected to generate more than Chinese yuan (CNY) 10 billion a

SAIC Motor Corporation Limited said on August 25, 2016, that its
sales in the first half of 2016 (January-June) rose 8.5% on a year-
over-year basis to Chinese yuan (CNY) 351.27 billion and its
annual net profit attributable to stockholders rose 6.3% to CNY
15.06 billion. The company sold 3,002,000 vehicles during the six
months, up 4.9% compared to the same term last year. Among
them, 2,561,000 units were passenger vehicles, up 9.8%, and
441,000 units were commercial vehicles, down 16.8%, due to the
weak market of very-light-duty vans, which account for nearly
60% of the sales of the commercial sales. The market share in

GAC Group said on August 27, 2016, that its sales in the first half
of 2016 (January-June) rose 87.2% on a year-over-year basis to
Chinese yuan (CNY) 21.43 billion and its annual net profit
attributable to stockholders rose 127.5% to CNY 3.98 billion.
Production and sales of GAC Motor Co., Ltd.., a GAC-brand car
manufacturer, rose significantly by 132.8% and 143.5%,
respectively, contributing the increased profit. Sales of the
Trumpchi GS4 sport utility vehicle (SUV) were particularly strong.

BAIC Motor Corporation Ltd. said on August 24, 2016, that its sales
in the first half of 2016 (January-June) rose 34.3% on a year-over-
year basis to Chinese yuan (CNY) 49.04 billion and its annual net
profit attributable to stockholders rose 11.1% to CNY 2.41 billion.
The sales of Beijing Benz, a joint manufacturer in which BAIC
Motor owns a 51% share, rose 27.8% to CNY 37.4 billion while the
sales of BAIC Motor’s original brand models increased 60.1% to
CNY 11.7 billion. The combined sales volume of Beijing Benz and
Beijing Hyundai during the six months was 869,168 units, up

FAW Car Co., Ltd. said on August 27, 2016, that its sales in the
first half of 2016 (January-June) declined 38.3% on a year-over-
year basis to Chinese yuan (CNY) 8.49 billion and its annual net
loss attributable to stockholders was CNY 0.83 billion. The
automaker sold 80,700 cars during the six months, down 33.2%.
The loss is partially explained by the slump in the market of the
company’s main models, sedans and other basic passenger
vehicles, and the lineup that lacks new models to appeal to the

Tianjin FAW Xiali Automobile Co., Ltd. said on August 25, 2016,
that its sales for the first half of 2016 (January-June) dropped
50.9% on a year-over-year basis to Chinese yuan (CNY) 1.03
billion and its annual net loss attributable to stockholders was CNY
0.52 billion. Due to the slump in the market of the company’s
main models, sedans and other basic passenger vehicles, its sales
during the six months declined 49.0% to 19,033 units. (August

Dongfeng Motor Group said on August 26, 2016, that its sales in
the first half of 2016 (January-June) dropped 13.2% on a year-
over-year basis to Chinese yuan (CNY) 57.13 billion and its annual
net profit attributable to stockholders declined 1.8% to CNY 6.76
billion. Sales during the six months raised 6.1% to 1,421,926 units
thanks to the efforts to optimize the group’s product lineup. The
market share was 11.1%. However, the six-month sales declined
due to the slump of Dongfeng Citroen, a joint company between

Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd. said on August 30, 2016,
that its sales in the first half of 2016 (January-June) rose 8.3% on
a year-over-year basis to Chinese yuan (CNY) 35.82 billion and its
annual net profit attributable to stockholders rose 8.0% to CNY
5.49 billion. The company sold 1,483,300 vehicles during the six
months, up 1.2% compared to the same term last year. Among
them, 620,000 vehicles were passenger vehicles of its own brand,
up 13%. Market share increased by 0.3% to 11.6% in comparison

Geely Automobile Holdings Limited said on August 18, 2016, that
its sales in the first half of 2016 (January-June) rose 31% on a
year-over-year basis to Chinese yuan (CNY) 18.09 billion and its
annual net profit attributable to stockholders rose 36% to CNY
1.97 billion. During the six months, the company sold 280,337
vehicles, up 11% in comparison to the same term last year.
Among them 269,669 vehicles were sold in China, up 15%. Geely
is planning to introduce the all-new Emgrand GL as a new-
generation A-segment sedan, the Vision SUV as an all-new
compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) and a hybrid version of
Emgrand series models in the 2nd half (July-December). (August

BYD Co. Ltd. said on August 29, 2016, that its sales in the first half
of 2016 (January-June) rose 42.32% on a year-over year basis to
Chinese yuan (CNY) 44.95 billion and its annual net profit
attributable to stockholders rose 384.23% to CNY 2.26 billion.
Sales from the new energy car business were CNY 15.5 billion,
which accounted for 34.58% of the group-wide sales. During the
six months, the company sold approximately 49,000 new energy
cars, up 130.74%. According to the data compiled by the China
Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), BYD’s share in
the new energy car market was around 27%. (August 2016)
SAIC General Motors Corporation Limited will invest Chinese yuan
(CNY) 26.5 billion in the development of advanced powertrain and
new energy technology over the next five years. The company has
a plan to introduce several new energy cars under the Buick,
Cadillac and Chevrolet brands, setting its annual sales target in
2020 and 2025 at 150,000 and 500,000 units, respectively. SAIC
GM also said that the construction of a new assembly plant of
lithium-ion battery packs is now underway in Jinqiao, Shanghai
City, with an investment of Chinese yuan (CNY) 1.72 billion.

King Long Motor (Xi'an) Co., Ltd. started the first phase
construction of its bus plant in the Xi'an Economic & Technological
Development Zone on August 28, 2016. The company is a bus
manufacturer established in 2015 jointly by Xiamen King Long
Motor Group and its subsidiary, Higer Bus Co., Ltd., and Shaanxi
Automobile Holding Group. The first phase construction covers
facilities for parts machining, welding, painting, assembling and
inspections as well as offices, technical centers, cafeterias, and
water treatment facilities. The new bus plant of a floor space of
approximately 100,000 square meters is built on a site of
approximately 333,000 square meters. It will have a capacity to
make 10,000 large-and middle-sized buses per year, based on 2
shifts, and generate more than Chinese yuan (CNY) 4 billion. The
second phase construction will allow it to expand the annual
production capacity to 30,000 and the annual sales to CNY10
billion. The total investment in the entire project is said to reach
CNY 1.5 billion. (August 2016)
On August 30, 2016, Brilliance Xinyuan Chongqing Automobile
Co., Ltd. released the X7 seven-seater sport utility vehicle (SUV)
as its first model. The new SUV is sold under Brilliance Xinyuan
Chongqing Automobile’s passenger car brand, SWM. Fuling Plant
in Chongqing City produces the model. Its overall length, width,
height and wheelbase are 4,710 mm, 1,855 mm, 1,750mm and
2,750mm, respectively. It’s equipped with a 1.8-liter engine
mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. A 1.5-liter turbo version
will be added later. The car is equipped with a large display in its
center console and features a 9-speaker sound system. (August

Chery Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Company Ltd. will introduce
the all-new XFL sedan Its target customers are young top business
persons. It will become available at the outlets on September 12,
2016. The XFL is the third local production model, following the
Range Rover Evoque and the Discovery Sport. It adopts the
newest aluminum body structure and its wheelbase is 3,100 mm,
140mm longer than the all-new Jaguar XF. It’s powered by either
of a 2.0-liter turbo-charged engine and a 3.0-liter super-charger
engine, both mated to a 8-speed automatic transmission. (August

Jiangxi Changhe Automobile Co., Ltd. released the Changhe Q35
compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) on August 28, 2016. Its pricing
ranges from Chinese yuan (CNY) 65,900 to 86,900 and its target
customers are a young drivers between the ages of about 25 and
35. It has a minimum ground clearance of 180 mm and is
equipped with a 1.5-liter CVVT engine mated to either of a 4-
speed automatic transmission or a 5-speed manual transmission.
Hongyuan Plant in Jingdezhen City, Jiangxi Province, produces the

SAIC VW is planning to expand that product capacity at its second
Anting Plant. Press reports say that capacity will be increased from
the current 200 thousand units to 360 thousand. (September

On September 6 Hanteng Autos launched the Hanteng X7, its first
SUV for volume production. Prices range from CNY 79,800 to
148,800. It provides a roomy interior, with a length of 4,671 mm,
width of 1,902 mm, height of 1,697 mm, and a long 2,810 mm
wheelbase. The SUV is equipped with either a 1.5L engine mated
to a 5-speed MT, or a 2.0L engine mated to a DCT. Hanteng Autos
is a private assembled vehicle producer that was established in
Jiangxi in November 2013. (September 2016)
Chengdu - On September 7 Dongfeng-Peugeot-Citroen Automobile
started production of the new Dongfeng Peugeot 4008 small SUV
at a new plant established in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. The
new plant will produce Dongfeng Peugeot, Dongfeng Citroen, and
Dongfeng Fengshen brand MPVs and SUVs that adopt the PSA
EMP2 platform. Production for the whole year in 2016 is expected
to reach 10,000 units, and the plant will ultimately have a
capacity for 360 thousand units. The 4008 has advanced features
including i-Cockpit, ADAS, and Grip Control, and will be launched
in mid-November. It is equipped with a 1.6L THP engine, or a 1.8L
THP engine designed for the Chinese market. (September 2016)
On September 6 the VW Group and Jianghuai Automobile signed a
memorandum of understanding for joint development of electric
vehicles (EVs) in China. The companies will consider establishing a
joint venture to handle EV businesses (development of assembled
vehicles and related components, production, sales, mobility
solutions). Details such as investment size and business model are
yet to be determined, but initially the two companies will each
provide 50% of the required capital. The partners will establish a
team composed of members from both companies and complete a
feasibility study within 3 months with an aim to reach formal
agreement within 5 months. (September 2016)
On September 5 Nissan announced that it sold 103,800 new
vehicles in China in the month of August for an increase of 16.6%
y/y. The company's sales were driven by its flagship Sylphy sedan,
which continues to be subject to a tax reduction for small cars.
Models like the Qashqai SUV also posted strong results. Total sales
for the period January - August rose 5.9% y/y to 805,500 units.

On September 2 Toyota announced that it sold 95,900 new
vehicles in China in the month of August for an increase of 1.8%
y/y. The Corolla and Levin posted strong results due to a boost
from a tax break for small vehicles. Total sales for the period

On September 2 Toyota announced that it sold 106,663 new
vehicles in China in the month of August for an increase of 36.3%
y/y. This is the sixth month in a row the company's results
exceeded those from the previous year, and the second
consecutive month that Honda beat Toyota and Nissan to top the
sales charts. A tax break for small vehicles and the popularity of
SUVs provided a boost. 5 models (the Accord, Vezel, Fit, CR-V, XR-
V) sold over 10 thousand units. Total sales for the period January -
August rose 22.7% y/y to 751,176 units. (September 2016)
On September 5 Mazda announced that it sold 23,635 new
vehicles in China in the month of August for an increase of 47.9%
y/y. This marked the company's third consecutive month of sales
growth. Mazda's total sales for the period January - August rose
9.6% y/y to 162,668 units to set a new record. (September 2016)
On September 2 Dongfeng Yulon Motor launched the new Rui 3
sedan (known as the S3 in Taiwan) as part of the Luxgen brand.
Prices range from CNY 59,800 to 96,800, and it will compete with
the Toyota Vios and current-generation Verna. All models are
equipped with a 1.6L engine mated to either a 5-speed MT or CVT.
An extra large 13.3 inch display is offered as an option.

On September 2 SAIC VW launched new sedan and crossover
versions of the Santana. Prices for the new Santana sedan range
from CNY 84,900 to 123.800. It has been refreshed from the
current model with more polished and elegant styling, and is
equipped with a number of practical new features inclufing door
mirrors with turning lights and rainfall sensors. Prices for the Cross
Santana crossover, which has has characteristics of SUVs and
sedans, range from CNY 102,900 to 129,900. Together with the
Gran Santana hatchback, the launch of the new Santana and
Cross Sanatana now means that a new Santana family of vehicles

Fuzhou - On September 2 Fujian Benz unveiled the Vito mid-size
van at the Chengdu Motor Show. The model has styling that
combines simplicity and sleekness. The seating in the roomy
interior can be rearranged for a variety of uses. The Vito is
equipped with a Mercedes-Benz M274 gasoline engine (engine
displacement of 1,991 ml) mated to a 7-speed 7G-TRONIC PLUS
AT. The fuel economy is 8.6L / 100 km. Production started from
August in a plant in Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, and retail sales
will commence from the end of September. (September 2016)
Wuhan - On September 2 SAIC GM launched the new Cavalier
compact mid-size sedan, which is produced at its Wuhan Plant.
The exterior design follows that of Chevrolet family vehicles. It is
the first model in the brand to have 2 L-shaped daylights on the
front. Designing short overhangs for the front and rear has
resulted in a lot of head room for the front row of seating, and the
Cavalier features the widest rear seating in its class. It features a
1.5L DVVT inline 4-cylinder engine mated to either a 5-speed MT
or 6-speed AT. (September 2016)
Tsutsumi - Toyota Motor Corporation announced on August 3,
2016 that the launch of its new Prius PHV in Japan will be
postponed to the wintertime. The new Prius PHV, which is based
on the forth-generation Prius, was originally scheduled for launch
this autumn. (August 2016)
Wuhan - On August 2, 2016, Seiji Kuraishi, executive vice
president of Honda, said that Dongfeng Honda needs to increase
its production capacity. The joint venture's existing plants have
reached capacity because of strong vehicle sales. Kuraishi did not
reveal the scale and timing of capacity expansion. (August 2016)
Changsha - On August 26 announced it would start local
production of the Outlander SUV from August 29 at GAC Mitsubishi
Motors, its joint venture with Guangzhou Automobile Group.
Previously the company performed assembly at its Nagoya factory
and exported the vehicles, but in the future all models for China
will be produced locally to enhance sales competitiveness for
SUVs, which have seen particularly strong growth in the Chinese

Daimler extends its portfolio of new energy vehicles (NEV) with
the introduction of the DENZA 400, the company’s “Made in
China, for China” electric vehicle from Shenzhen BYD Daimler New
Technology Co., Ltd. (BDNT). The new flexible production line will
increase capacity based on future market demand. (August 2016)
On August 22, production of the DL 382 7-speed S tronic
transmission began at the Volkswagen Automatic Transmission
Tianjin (VWATJ) plant in China for the new Audi A4 L and other
locally produced models of the second-generation modular
longitudinal platform (MLB). Audi will produce 240,000
transmissions annually at the VWTAJ facility. Because of the
modular production set-up, the company can double the plant’s
capacity in a later phase. (August 2016)
Jinqiao - On August 8 the last Buick Excelle (known as the
Chevrolet Optra overseas) was produced at SAIC GM's Jinqiao
Plant in Shanghai City. The Excelle is a compact sedan that was
introduced into the Chinese market in April 2003. The model has a
prestigious history, having sold 2.68 million units across 13 years
in the midst of a competitive market, but it finally could not keep
up with changing conditions, and production was halted on the

On August 13 Zhejiang Zhisin Holding Group announced that it
had established a facility for new energy vehicle research. Zhisin
Holding is a company in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province that is
involved in businesses such as industrial investing and various
forms of consulting. The new facility will research topics including
new energy vehicles, core components (batteries, motors, and
etc.), and production technology. By removing technical
bottlenecks, the company expects to maintain persistent growth
in the new energy vehicle business. (August 2016)
Guangzhou - On August 11 GAC Toyota launched a new model of
the Yaris L small car. Over-the-counter sales will start from
September. The new model leads its class in making a vehicle
stability control system, traction control, hill start assist control,
and smart stop standard equipment. It is offered with the same
1.3L and 1.5L engines as the NR series, but instead of a 4-speed
AT, includes either a 5-speed MT or S-CVT. (August 2016)
On August 10 Mazda's joint venture FAW Mazda launched the new
Atenza, which has over 70 improvements to areas including the
exterior, interior, and equipment. The new model reflects the
needs of Chinese consumers, and targets singles as well as
families of three. Over 20 functions including i-stop idling stop
technology, LED headlamps and fog lamps, push-button ignition,
and cruise control have reportedly been added to all models.

On August 8 Chery Automobile agreed to a strategic partnership
with China Unicom, a major telecommunications operator. The
companies will cooperate on launch events for new models,
unifying the automotive industry with the internet, car sharing,

On August 10 Beijing Chehejia Information Technology (Chehejia)
held a cornerstone ceremony for a new energy vehicle plant in the
Wujin National Hi-tech. Industrial Zone in Changzhou City, Jiangsu
Province. Chehejia is a start-up established in 2015 by the
automotive information site "Autohome," which was founded by Li
Xiang. The first phase of construction will result in an annual
production capacity of 200 thousand units, and go on-stream in
November 2017. In addition to small electric cars, sources say an
in-development electric SUV will be built at the same plant.

On August 12 Wanxiang Group, a major supplier of automotive
parts, announced plans to construct an EV plant in Hangzhou City,
Zhejiang Province. According the company's Environmental
Impact Assessment Report, around CNY 2.5 billion will be invested
in the Xiaoshan Economic & Technical Development Zone to
create an EV production capacity 50 thousand units. The models
produced are expected to be Karma Automotive's Karma and

On August 10 LeEco, a major Chinese streaming video company,
announced that it will build an EV plant in Moganshan Economy
and Development Zone, Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province. The first
phase of construction is to result in an annual production capacity
of 200 thousand units, the second phase 400 thousand. Sources
say that the construction will also consist of a theme park with
functions for uses including displays and tourism. (August 2016)
Ordos - Hawtai Motor launched the new Lusheng E80 sedan. The
new model features an elegant and noble appearance. It
measures 4,777 mm in length, 1,794 mm in width, 1,481 mm in
height and rides on a wheelbase of 2,678 mm. It is powered by a
1.5-liter turbo engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
The engine generates a maximum output of 103 kW at 5,000 rpm
and a peak torque of 210 Nm at 2,500-4,500 rpm. The Lusheng
E80 is built at the Ordos plant. (July 2016)
General Motors Company announced on August 4, 2016 that it
sold 270,529 vehicles at retail in China in July 2016, an increase of
18% year-over-year (y/y). The company's cumulative vehicle sales
for January-July 2016 rose 6.8% y/y to 2,081,005 units. By brand,
sales of the Cadillac and Buick were brisk in July, reaching 8,757
units (up 90%) and 89,404 units (up 30%), respectively, while
sales of the Chevrolet dropped 15% to 30,287 units. Meanwhile,
sales of the Baojun and Wuling, which are marketed by GM's joint
venture with SAIC Motor Group, reached 44,320 units (up 61%)
and 97,728 units (up 6%), respectively. (August 2016)
Cowin Automobile launched the new Cowin V3 SUV on August 8,
2016. The new seven-seater SUV is targeted at young Chinese
families. It comes with a choice of three seating arrangements
(2+2+3/2+2+2/2+3). It offers excellent off-road driving with a
ground clearance of at least 170 mm at full load. It is powered by
a 1.5-liter engine with a maximum output of 80 kW and a peak
torque of 140 Nm. The new Cowin V3 is built at Chery

Beijing New Energy Vehicle's new ARCFOX brand made its debut
in Beijing City on August 3, 2016. ARCFOX is a compound of "Arc"
of the Arctic and a "fox." The brand's concepts are embodied in
the two ARCFOX-1 and ARCFOX-7 electric vehicles, which were
exhibited at the Beijing Auto Show. (August 2016)
On August 5, 2016, Toyota Motor Corporation and the Japan
Federation of Hire-Taxi Associations entered into a memorandum
of understanding to study on areas for collaboration, so as to
develop and introduce a next-generation taxi. Both parties will
establish a task force that will meet regularly to discuss how to
realize items including drawing up vehicle specifications and
building peripheral systems. Specifically, the two parties will study
enhancement of advanced safety systems, improved user
convenience, and service provision in multiple languages, with the
aim of popularizing next-generation taxis that can easily be used
by all including the elderly and foreign tourists. In the Tokyo area,
both parties will look at ways to mutually collaborate in
developing and leveraging future automated driving technologies
in order to reduce the workload of taxi drivers, such as driving and

Motor Co., Ltd. into a wholly owned subsidiary via stock swap
according to the schedule announced in January. Daihatsu was

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. announced on August 3, 2016 that its car
sales in China increased 8.9% year-over-year (y/y) to 91,700 units
in July. The car sales marked a y/y increase for the fifth straight
month. Sales remained strong for its mainstay Nissan Sylphy
sedan, which benefits from tax breaks for compact cars. Sales
were also brisk for models like the X-Trail SUV thanks to the
popularity of SUVs in China. The company's cumulative car sales
for January-July 2016 rose 4.5% y/y to 701,700 units. (August

Toyota Motor Corporation announced on August 2, 2016 that its
car sales in China increased 5.7% year-over-year (y/y) to 97,700
units in July. The car sales marked the first y/y growth in two
months. Sales remained strong for the Corolla and Levin due to
tax breaks granted to compact cars. The company's cumulative
car sales for January-July 2016 rose 14.0% y/y to 689,900 units.

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. announced on August 2, 2016 that its car
sales in China increased 39.5% year-over-year (y/y) to 101,977
units in July. Thanks to strong sales of its SUVs like the CR-V and
XR-V, Honda overtook Nissan and Toyota to earn the top spot
among Japanese OEMs. The company's cumulative car sales for
January-July 2016 rose 20.7% y/y to 644,513 units. (August 2016)
Mazda Motor Corporation announced on August 3, 2016 that its
car sales in China increased 30.2% year-over-year (y/y) to 21,510
units in July, recording its best-ever sales volume for a single
month. The company's cumulative car sales for January-July 2016
rose 4.9% y/y to 139,033 units, hitting an all-time high for the

Wuhan - On July 29 Dongfeng-Peugeot-Citroen's Dongfeng Citroen
brand launched the new C4L sedan. It adopts the next-generation
Citroen family face for the front, and is 55 mm longer and 2 mm
taller than the previous model. The new model removes 1.8L
engine variants from the lineup and is offered with 1.2L or 1.6L

Wuhu - On July 26 Chery Automobile launched the new Arrizo7
and Arrizo7e, its first PHV. The Arrizo7 compact sedan was
launched in 2013. The new model refreshes the exterior, interior,
and equipment. The Arrizo7e is a PHV based on the Arrizo7, and
the two models have the same exterior. However, the Arrizo7e
has a hybrid system with extensive equipment. It is equipped with
a 1.6L DVVT engine and 7-speed CVT with a fuel economy of 1.9
L / 100 km. The vehicle has a range of 930 km and electric only
range of 50 km. Both models are produced at the Wuhu Plant.

Guangzhou - On July 28 GAC Motor held an opening ceremony for
its second production line and began producing the Trumpchi
brand GS8, a large, 7-seater SUV, and GA3S PHEV. The second
production line was completed ahead of schedule and produced
its first vehicle on June 12. It is expected that by the end of August
740 vehicles will be produced per day. The GS8 large SUV is
scheduled to go on sale in October. It has a new, second
generation engine (320T) and 6-speed AT. The GA3S PHEV has an
electricity consumption of 13.6 kWh / 100 km and fuel efficiency
of 1.5 L / 100 km. The vehicle has a range of over 500 km, and is
said to have an all electric range of over 100 km. (July 2016)
Changchun - On July 27 FAW-VW launched the next generation
Magotan B-class sedan. The vehicle is a Chinese spec model of the
Passat B8 that adopts the MQB-8 platform. Its wheelbase is 80 mm
longer than the overseas spec model, and utilizes design features
and equipment specifically for the Chinese market, including a
very large panoramic sunroof and electric sunshade curtains. It
features VW's newest MIB infotainment system, and is compatible
with Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink. The Magotan is equipped with
1.4L (EA211 280TSI), 1.8L (EA888 330TSI), or 2.0L turbo (EA888
380TSI) engines. It is produced at the Changchun Plant. (July

On July 26 Fuji Heavy Industries revealed a Japanese spec version
of the 5th generation Impreza on a dedicated website. It is a
strategic model that has been positioned as the first next-
generation vehicle in the company's mid-term management
vision, and is scheduled to launch in autumn. Along with making
pedestrian airbags and EyeSight (ver 3) standard equipment for
all models, the company says that the amount of collision energy
absorbed has been increased 1.4 times through adoption of the
next-generation Subaru Global platform. (July 2016)
On July 25 Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation announced
that it has established Daimler Trucks Asia Taiwan Ltd., a joint
venture with Shung Ye Trading Co., a major Taiwanese trading
company. MFTBC holds a 51% stake and SYC 49%. The JV is
scheduled to start operations from October 2016, and it will
centrally manage imports, assembly, wholesale, and retail
businesses. MFTBC says that this move will lead to significantly
improved efficiency for its operations over the traditional system
where multiple companies handled its import and wholesale

Lifan Industry (Group) Co., Ltd. announced on July 22, 2016, the
amendment of the public stock offering size once resolved in
2015. It will be reduced to Chinese yuan (CNY) 2.8 billion from
CNY 5.2 billion. The purpose of the capital increase will remain
unchanged and the additional money will be used for new energy
vehicle projects such as construction of energy stations. (July

Yubei - Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd. released the all-
new Eado series models, the Eado sedan and the Eado XT
hatchback, on July 25, 2016. The new Eado series have no 1.5-
liter-turbo-engine model. Instead, it comes with a 1.6-liter engine
or the second-generation 1.6-liter gasoline direct injection (GDI)
all aluminum engine. The latter engine features the compression
ratio of 11.8, the maximum output of 94kW and the maximum
torque of 168Nm, all almost equivalent to those of a 1.8-liter
engine. The new Eado series also offers improved power
performance, chassis, and NVH (noise, vibration and harshness)
performance. They are manufacured at Yubei plant in Chongqing

NorSom - On July 20, 2016, SAIC GM released the new Chevrolet
Cruze, which is developed based on the next-generation Cruze for
the US market. The car was fully remodeled in 2014, ahead of the
car for the US market. So, some media report that this is partial
remodeling. The new Chevrolet Cruze in China is build on GM's
most advanced global midsize car platform, just like in 2014. The
wheelbase has been extended to 2,700 mm and customers have a
choice of a 1.4-liter direct-injection turbo-charged engine or a 1.5-
liter direct-injection engine. (July 2016)
Xiangyang - Dongfeng Automobile Co., Ltd. celebrated the
production of the first Dongfeng Junfeng ER30 electric vehicle (EV)
on July 20, 2016, at a plant in Xiangyang City, Hubei Province,
China. The model is built based on Dongfeng Nissan’s compact
car, the Venucia R30. Equipped with a permanent magnet motor
and lithium-ion batteries, it runs more than 255 kilometers per
one charge. It houses the batteries under the chassis to expand
the available interior space, and lower the center of gravity for
increased stability. Its minimum turning radius is only 4.5 meters
to offer the ability to turn in a small radius. (July 2016)
Liuzhou - Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor Co., Ltd. released its all-new
seven-seater sports utility vehicle (SUV), the Fengxing SX6, on July
24, 2016. Built on the same platform with the Fengxing S500
multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), it resembles the MPV. Drivers can
choose from a 1.6-liter engine or 2.0-liter engine. The 1.6-liter
engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission (MT) or a
continuously variable transmission (CVT), and the 2.0-liter engine
is mated to a 5-speed MT. (July 2016)
Wuhan - On July 12 Dongfeng-Peugeot-Citroen Automobile
launched the new Dongfeng Peugeot brand 3008 urban SUV. The
model is the first to adopt France-based Peugeot's next-
generation design language and has an advanced driver
assistance system (ADAS). The ADAS is made up of a lane
departure warning system, front collision alarm, blind spot
detection, and surround view monitor. The system assists the
driver by analyzing the road environment through sensors,
cameras, and radar. (July 2016)
On July 15, in response to reports of investment by Samsung
Electric, BYD released documentation indicating that negotiations
between the two companies have started. However, the company
stated that it had not released the 4% stake figure that was
reported. Samsung Electric is aiming to create a strategic
partnership in the area of EV-use components by investing in BYD.

On July 15 FAW Car Co. Ltd. launched a new model of its Bestum
B50 own brand sedan. Production is being done at the company's
second plant in Changchun City, Jilin Province. The model is based
on the M2 B-class platform, and it has a 2,725 mm wheelbase. The
front adopts a wishbone suspension, and the rear a multi-link
suspension. It is equipped with a 4GB series 1.6L or 1.4L turbo

Zengcheng - On July 4, 2016, Guangqi Honda Automobile’s
Zengcheng Plant has celebrated the production of the first Acura
CDX sports utility vehicle (SUV) for the luxury brand Acura. The
new Acura CDX will reportedly become available in the market on

Dongfeng Yueda Kia Motors will invest Chinese yuan (CNY) 2,900
million to increase the production capacity at its 3rd plant located
in the Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province. The plant currently
produces 300,000 vehicles a year: 240,000 passenger cars and
60,000 sports utility vehicles (SUVs). The expansion work will
allow the company to raise the annual production capacity by
150,000 vehicles to 450,000 vehicles. (July 2016)
Brilliance Shineray Chongqing Automobile has celebrated the
production of the first all-new SWM X7. The compact sports utility
vehicle (SUV) is likely to become available in the market in the
latter half of August in 2016, according to press reports. (June

Foton Motor announced on June 22, 2016, the cooperation with
Baidu Zhihui Auto, the largest search engine firm in China. The
two companies plan to develop intelligent commercial vehicles in
the future using Futon Motor’s IoV platform and Baidu Zhihui’s in-
car system including CarLife that connects smart phones and in-
vehicle devices, MyCar that provides private cloud services,
CoDriver that enables a driver to use voice interactive function,

BAIC Yinxiang Automobile started its expansion work in Hechuan
District, Chongqing City. The new site will allow the company to
have an additional annual production capacity of 250,000 units
and is slated to start producing vehicles in the end of 2017. The
company also started to work on the new component plant for
new energy cars on the same day. The new component plant will
start producing lithium batteries, motors and control systems for
100,000 vehicles a year in July 2017. (June 2016)
SAIC GM announced on June 28, 2016, the collaboration with
Shanghai Jiaotong University on smart manufacturing technology
in the research and development (R&D) and application areas.
The two parties entered into a framework agreement on June 27.
Over the coming five years, they will work together in a number of
areas including smart manufacturing technology, powertrain
manufacturing technology and facility manufacturer development.

Tianjin - Hawtai Motor released its all-new electric-powered sports
utility vehicle (SUV), the XEV260, on June 30, 2016. It is reportedly
built on the existing New Santa Fe and equipped with a
permanent magnet motor with the maximum output of 80kW and
the maximum torque of 220Nm combined with a 49.9kWh ternary
lithium ion battery. The electric SUV can run up to 266 kilometers
on a single charge in combined driving environment or 332
kilometers at a constant speed. The model is built at Tianjin Plant.

BAIC Group released its all-new business-use multi-purpose
vehicle (MPV), the Huansu H2V, on June 27, 2016. BAIC Yinxiang
Automobile’s plant in Chongqing produces the model. It inherits
the X-lined front design from the Huansu H2 and measures
4,451mm in length and 2,790mm in wheelbase to outweigh
competitive models in terms of passengers room. It’s equipped
with a 1.5-liter engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

Dongfeng Yueda Kia Motors released its first hybrid vehicle, the K5
hybrid sedan, on June 26, 2016. The K5 and the K5 hybrid are
produced at the 3rd Plant. A 2.0-liter GDI engine with the
maximum output of 115kW and the maximum torque of 189Nm
and a permanent magnet synchronous motor with the maximum
output of 38kW are combined to power the HV vehicle with a fuel
economy of 4.8-liter per 100 kilometers. It targets upper class
urban customers. The company has a plan to introduce 6 new
energy vehicles by 2020. It also plans to produce and sell 100,000
new energy vehicles in total by 2020. What follows the K5 hybrid
are plug-in hybrid versions of the K5 and the K3, and three all-

On June 22, 2016, Geely Automobile Holdings Limited, a listed
subsidiary of the Geely Group, unveiled a plan to sell its stake in
Ninghai Zhidou Electric Vehicles Company Limited. The details
including sale price are to be decided, but the company has
entered into a framework agreement with a third-party investor to
sell its partial interests in the manufacturer of electric city cars.
The Investor will procure one of its associates, which is a company
listed on the PRC stock exchange, to acquire part or all of the
remaining interests. Ninghai Zhidou is a manufacture established
in 2015 jointly by Geely and Xin Dayang Mechanical and Electrical
Group. Geely currently owns 45% of this joint company’s equity
through its subsidiaries. The joint manufacturer currently
produces electric vehicles under the Zhidou brand in Lanzhou
City, Gansu Province. (June 2016)
FAW Car Co., Ltd. and Tianjin FAW Xiali Automobile Co., Ltd. said
on June 28, 2016, that their shareholders rejected a plan to
slowdown the consolidation plan proposed by their controlling
shareholder, China FAW Co., Ltd., at the shareholders’ meeting.
China FAW once proposed to consolidate the two companies’
passenger businesses over the five years starting in 2011 to
eliminate competitions between the two companies. However, it
recently proposed to slowdown the consolidation by three years
considering slow growth of the industry. (June 2016)
On June 24 Yema Automobile reached agreement to build an
industrial park for NEVs with Zhongnengdongdao Group, which is
working to cluster NEV production, and the local government of
Anzhou District (Mianyang City, Sichuan Province). The new park
will be constructed on an area of over 50 square kilometers in
Anzhou District. (June 2016)
On July 8 the PSA Group signed a memorandum for the
establishment of its headquarters for Southeast Asia and China in
Wuhan City. The Group's previous regional headquarters for Asia
was established in 2010 in Shanghai. After the move, PSA's
relationship with Dongfeng Motor Group, with which it has a
capital tie-up, is expected to be strengthened, and the operations
of the two companies' Dongfeng-Peugeot-Citroen Automobile joint
venture further expanded. The regional headquarters will oversee
joint venture operations, marketing, product planning, R&D, and
resource development for China and the Southeast Asian area.

On July 6 the BAIC Group reached agreement with the local
government of Dawa District, Panjin City, Liaoning Province for a
strategic alliance related for experiencing autonomous vehicles.
The partners will establish a new company to advance the project
in Dawa District's Red Beach. An area for testing autonomous
vehicles will be set up in a northern part of the Red Beach, and
operations are expected to begin in September at the earliest.
Tourists will be able to enter the area by making reservations with
cell phones and purchasing tickets. (July 2016)
On July 11 FAW-Volkswagen launched a new Sagitar R-Line. The
model is equipped with a VW 1.4L TSI engine (EA211 series, 110
kW) mated to a 7-speed DSG. A start-stop system contributes to a
fuel economy of 5.9L/100 km. (July 2016)
On July 7 Great Wall Motor launched the Haval H6 Coupe SUV with
a 2.0L diesel turbo engine. The company holds the intellectual
property rights to the passenger vehicle engine, which has a rate
power output of 120 kW and maximum torque of 350 Nm. The
vehicle conforms to the Chinese National 4 and National 5
emissions standards. (July 2016)
Foton Motor announced that it will establish an emissions testing
facility for testing compliance with the 6 levels of regulation.
Approximately CNY 121.8 billion will be invested in the project.
Beijing, where the company's headquarters are located, is
expected to accelerate implementation of the 6 levels of
regulation to the end of 2017. Shanghai, Guangzhou City, and 11
northern provinces are expected to follow in 2018, and the
establishment of the facility is expected to help the company deal

Lingang - On July 6, 2016, SAIC Motor Corporation, Ltd. and
Alibaba Group Holding Limited, a Chinese e-commerce company,
launched an internet car, the Roewe RX5, which was jointly
developed by the two companies. The mid-size sports utility
vehicle (SUV) for city drivers was designed using new design
language and is powered by Alibaba’s operating system called
YunOS for Car. The car can be always connected to the Internet
through the SIM card mounted on the car. The model is built at
Lingang Plant. (July 2016)
On July 6, 2016, Geely launched the all-new Kingkong Cross, a
crossover version of the new Kingkong compact sedan released in
January. Geely has adopted a silver roofrail and ground clearance
of 180mm as the highlights of the crossover model. Both the
Kingkong and the Kingkong Cross are produced at the Luqiao

Toyota has sold 97,100 new vehicles in China in June 2016, down
3.4% compared to the same month last year. This is the first time
in the past six months for the company to go below what it sold in
the previous year. The decline in sales is reportedly due to the
weak sales of its main sedan model, the Corolla. So far, the
Corolla had been a driving force of Toyota’s sales growth in China,
thanks to the positive impact of the tax reduction scheme.
However, the company's sales for the 6 months from January
through June 2016 went up 15.5% to 592,100 units compared to
the same period last year. (July 2016)
Nissan has sold 109,100 new vehicles in China in June 2016,
marking a 17.0% increase on a year-on-year basis. The sales of its
main sedan, the Sylphy, was continuously strong thanks to the
positive impact of the tax reduction scheme. The X-Trail sports
utility vehicle (SUV) and the Qashqai also contributed to the
strong sales, which marked fourth consecutive month of
improvement over the previous year. The company's sales for the
6 months from January through June 2016 went up 3.8% to

Honda has sold 96,692 new vehicles in China in June 2016,
marking a 31.8% increase on a year-on-year basis. The
automaker's monthly sales in China increased for four consecutive
months. The sales of the Accord and the Vezel by Guangqi Honda
Automobile as well as the CR-V and the XR-V by Dongfeng Honda
Automobile were strong with each exceeding 10,000 units. The
company's sales for the 6 months from January through June 2016
went up 17.7% to 542,527 units compared to the same period last

Mazda has sold 20,132 new vehicles in China in June 2016, up
15.7% compared to the same month last year and the company's
total new car sales from January through June 2016 increased
1.3% to 117,523 units, hitting new highs for June and the 6
months. The sales of the skyactiv models including the CX-5 were
continuously strong. Mazda intends to increase its sales using the
all-new CX-4 sports utility vehicle (SUV) released at the end of

On June 21 BYD reached agreement with QingHai Salt Lake
Industry and Shenzhen Hongdatong Industrial on resource
development for salt lake derived lithium. The 3 companies will
establish a joint venture for manufacturing and sales, as well as
developing products that utilize Qinghai Province salt lake
resources. BYD will have a stake of 48%, QingHai Salt Lake
Industry 49.5%, and Shenzhen Hongdatong Industrial 2.5%.
Among the partners, QingHai Salt Lake Industry is a state owned
company that manufactures products like chemicals. (June 2016)
On June 21 Mazda's distribution joint venture FAW Mazda
launched the all-new CX-4 crossover SUV. This is the newest
model to adopt SKYACTIV technology and Mazda's "Kodo- Soul of
Motion" design language. It is produced at FAW Car's first plant.
The CX-4 realizes SUV-like ground clearance, and equipping the i-
ACTIV AWD 4WD system results in superior performance. The
4WD version is equipped with a 2.5L engine with a 6-speed
automatic transmission, and the 2WD version with a 2.0L engine
and a 6-speed automatic or manual transmission. (June 2016)
On June 21 DFSK Motor launched the "Fengguang 580" urban SUV.
This is the first SUV in the "Fengguang" series. It has a very long
wheelbase of 2,780 mm. The 1.5L engine version has a CVT or 6-
speed manual transmission, and the 1.8L engine has a 5-speed
manual transmission. It has an onboard connectivity system that
links with smartphones. (June 2016)
On June 12 GAC Motor completed a second line at its Guangzhou
Plant and started production. The company accomplished its goal
only 15 months after starting construction in March 2015. The first
line already has an annual capacity of 200,000 units (370,000 at
maximum), and now with the completion of the second line, the
plant's capacity will expand to 350,000 units (650,000 at
maximum) by 2017. A spike in sales of Trumpchi brand vehicles
led to the company expanding capacity to meet its needs. (June

On June 20 Cowin Automobile launched the X3, the first Cowin
brand connected car. It is an SUV targeting young people that is
equipped with the "iCar 1.0" connectivity system, which offers
features like voice control, vehicle status verification, and remote
operation with a smartphone. Moreover, all versions have ACTECO
series 1.6L DWT engines mated to a 5-speed or continuously
variable transmission. The vehicle is produced at a plant in Wuhu

On June 18 the BAIC Group launched the "Huan Su H3F" 7-seater
MPV. The newly designed front adopts an "X" type family design,
and its 2,800 mm wheelbase is the longest in its class. It is
equipped with a 1.5L DVVT engine mated to a 5-speed manual
transmission. Production started at a plant in southwest China

On June 18 SAIC-GM launched the new Buick brand Encore. It is a
small SUV targeted at young people that adopts Buick's newest
design language, and is also offered with AWD. All versions are

On June 14 while German Chancellor Merkel was visiting China,
Brilliance BMW started production of the new X1 at its Tiexi Plant.

On June 13 BAIC and Daimler agreed to invest CNY 4 billion (over
EUR 500 million) in their joint venture, Beijing Benz. The
investment will be used to expand the production capacity at
