REW Measurement Checklist
▢ Set up REW following the REW Setup Guide.
▢ Decide which speaker to measure first. Turn off all
others.
▢ Turn down main speaker volume and microphone
gain.
▢ Place microphone at ear height at the listening
position.
● Exact spot found using the Bass Hunter Technique.
● Be accurate(!) if you want measurements to be repeatable and comparable.
▢ Set speaker volume to 80dB SPL (slow, c-weighted
dB(C)).
● Play pink noise in REW -> Preferences -> Levels (“Use main speaker test
signal”).
● Hold SPL meter (phone app) next to microphone at the listening position.
● Adjust speaker volume until SPL meter reads 80dB.

REW Measurement Checklist
▢ Set microphone gain to -20dB SPL.
(NOTE: skip with calibrated USB mics)
● Play pink noise in REW -> Preferences -> Levels (“Use main speaker test
signal”).
● Check microphone level on “In” level meter (not “Ref In”).
● Adjust mic gain until “In” level meter reads -20dB.
● Restart REW if you can't get a signal.

▢ Calibrate REW to 80dB SPL (slow, c-weighted dB(C)).
(NOTE: skip with calibrated USB mics)
● REW -> SPL Meter (pop up window) -> “Calibrate” (“Use main speaker test
signal”).
● Set SPL level to “80.0”. Click “Finished”.

REW Measurement Checklist
▢ Take the measurement (20Hz - 20kHz, -20dB FS, 512k, 4
repetitions).
● REW -> Measure
○ Check levels (should read “Level OK”, around -20 dBFS).
○ Start Measuring.
▢ Name measurement
● Example: “L Empty Room”, “R+Sub Empty Room”, etc.

▢ Repeat with all other speakers (keep calibration as is).
▢ View the frequency response (as a starting point)
● REW -> All SPL (Tab)
○ Controls -> 1/24 smoothing
○ Limits -> 20Hz - 20,000kHz, 100.0 dB - 30.0 dB
