Submission Format:
A folder containing,
1. All simulation files that you used to create the task.
2. A document (less than 15 pages) which includes:
Brief explanations of how you achieved each feature, explaining key decisions and
assumptions made, and screenshots of relevant circuit parts.
o All software versions that you used.
o Any other supportive information that you think will help us to run your simulation.

Unit Learning Outcomes:

LO1. Determine the operational characteristics of amplifier circuits.
LO2. Investigate the types and effects of feedback on an amplifier’s performance.
LO3. Examine the operation and application of oscillators.
LO4. Apply testing procedures to electronic devices and circuits.
Assignment Brief and Guidance:
Electronics play a crucial role in modern technology, from everyday appliances to sophisticated systems
in healthcare and industry. This assignment aims to give you practical experience in designing,
simulating, and analyzing the behavior of various amplifier and oscillator circuits using the Falstad Circuit
Simulator.
You will be tasked with designing circuits for different classes of amplifiers and various types of
oscillators. You are also required to document the design process, analyze the operational
characteristics, and evaluate the pros and cons of each circuit in a comprehensive report.
Task 1: Design and Simulation of Amplifier Circuits
1. Amplifier Circuits Design:
o Design and simulate one circuit for each of the following amplifier classes using the
Falstad Circuit Simulator:
▪ Class A Amplifier
▪ Class B Amplifier
▪ Class AB Amplifier
▪ Class C Amplifier
▪ Class D Amplifier (utilizing an Operational Amplifier)
2. Simulation Files:
o Save and submit the simulation files for each amplifier circuit.
3. Analysis:
o Analyze the operational characteristics of each amplifier circuit, including gain, efficiency
and distortion.
Task 2: Design and Simulation of Oscillator Circuits
1. Oscillator Circuits Design:
o Design and simulate the following types of oscillators using the Falstad Circuit Simulator:
▪ Wien Bridge Oscillator
▪ Twin-T Oscillator
▪ R-C Ladder Oscillator
▪ L-C Coupled Oscillator
▪ Crystal Oscillator
▪ Transistor-Based Oscillator
▪ Operational Amplifier Oscillator
2. Simulation Files:
o Save and submit the simulation files for each oscillator circuit.
3. Analysis:
o Examine the operation and application of each oscillator circuit, focusing on frequency,
distortion and wave shapes.
Task 3: Report Writing
1. Report Structure:
o Introduction: Provide an overview of the purpose of amplifiers and oscillators in
electronic circuits.
o Amplifier Circuits: Detail the design, simulation process, key functionalities, and pros
and cons of each amplifier class.
o Oscillator Circuits: Describe the design, simulation process, key functionalities, and pros
and cons of each type of oscillator.
o Conclusion: Summarize your findings and discuss the importance of understanding
different amplifier and oscillator circuits in electronics.
2. Report Content:
o For each circuit, include screenshots from the Falstad simulator to show the circuit
design.
o Provide a brief explanation of the principles behind the circuit's operation.
o Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each circuit design.
Submission Requirements:
• Submit all Falstad simulation files (.txt or .falstad) for the amplifier and oscillator circuits.
• Submit a comprehensive report in PDF format. Ensure your report is well organized, clearly
written, and includes all required sections.
Grading Criteria:
1. Circuit Design and Simulation (40%)
o Completeness and accuracy of amplifier and oscillator circuit designs.
o Correct use of components and proper simulation setup.
2. Analysis and Evaluation (30%)
o Depth of analysis regarding the operational characteristics of each circuit.
o Proper evaluation of the pros and cons for each circuit type.
3. Report Quality (20%)
o Clarity and organization of the report.
o Quality of the written content, including grammar and spelling.
o Proper use of references and citations.
4. Creativity and Innovation (10%)
o Originality in circuit design and problem-solving approach.
o Innovative use of circuit components and configurations.
