Amarendra Prabhu's Krishna Katha
Krishna Katha
# Prayers of Queen Kunti (Day 1)
1) Srila Jiva Goswami - In Sanskrit vowels are called svara’s and consonants are
called vyanjana’s, so he says instead let’s call the vowels sarveshwara’s and the
consonants vishnujana’s, As we know consonants need vowels for their
completion, similarly, the sarveshwara - the supreme Lord is independent, we the
vishnujana’s need fulfilment of the love for the supreme lord for our fulfilment.
2) Rupa Goswami’s expression on Govardhan Lila by only 2 syllables “ra & dha”
6) Vaishnav is he who cannot live without Srimad Bhagavatam. We shoud make time
to read Srimad Bhagavatam instead of making excuses…..
7) Sada sevya sada sevya Srimad Bhagavathi katha, yas yas sravana mathrane hari
chitham samasrayeth……. janmanthare kritham punyam tada bhagavatham labeth
— somebody who has accumulated spirityal piety for so many lifetimes only that
person becomes eligible to recieve Srimad bhagavatam…
8) Our Gauranga Mahaprabhu would sit with Gadhadhar pandit and read
bhagavatam for three hours…
12) Bhagavtam teaches us how to live in this world and also how to leave this world,
vyasa dev compiled many books but he was not satisfied, dhruva maharaj did many
things but he was not satisfied, prahlad maharaj did many things but he was not
satisfied when it came to bhakti he was satisfied… The lord could have appeared
from anywhere, he who can come from the mind of vasudev, he who can come from
the womb of yashoda, he who can come from the nostril of bhrama as varaha, this
time he decided to make his parents the pillar in the courtroom of hiranyakashpu, he
didn’t come to kill him, just because my devotee he pointed here, what my devotee
has said will never go false, just to prove this the lord came from there…..
Prabhu’s purport:
Never will we find any superior offering obeisances to any inferior… And when
krishna is about to leave to dwaraka and yudhisthir maharaj is on royal throne as
king, everything is set, the war is over and utthara is saved and now krishna says to
kunti, now that i am leaving you will have no more problems, now kunti holds the
charriot of krishna and starts her sthuthi……
Namasye means i offer my obeisances, is the most intergal part of bhakthi, if one
thing you should incorporate now is counting the number of obeisances we offer to
Krishna. In bhagvad gita, if there’s one instruction krishna repeated multiple times is:
man mana bava mad bhaktho madhya ji mam namaskuru
Krishna says give your mind to me, only vaishnavi’s like nanda maharaj and
yashoda can give their mind to you, how can we give? if you cannot be a
raghatmika bhaktha, then be a raghanuga bhaktha by getting attracted to the
devotees, even if you can’t do this atleast perform vaidhi bhakthi, even if this can’t
offer obeisances, if the mind can’t offer obeisances the body can…. Pranam must
be complete body touching the floor… Ex of akrura, ambarish maharaj, incident
between prabhupad and a devotee (gayatri mantra), kulashekar alvar - that head is
first class which has been completely white because of the dust of the floor because
of repeated offering obeisances to the lord…
After this question is whom should we offer obeisances - puruṣaṁ tvādyam :
Baldevvidyabhusan’s one meaning is - word puru means gifts, and sanothi means
to give, that lord who loves to give gifts is purusam… Ex of sabari (Ramayan),
Kevat (boatman), jayantha sat on mother sita and was peckking committing the
most heinous crime and when it offered obeisances, rama gave him one eye…., other
meaning is - he who stays ahead and walks behind his devotees to protect them…
Ex of calfs and krishna, krishna walks behind the calfs to protect them, krishna
mentioned when devotees have good qualities i walk behind them, because when the
dust from their lotus feet is raised in the air i get touched by the dust and i get
purified…. Ex of sakshi gopal (how gopal loves his devotees so much that he was
ready to walk behind them just to give witness … this is purusha…. another meaning
is who runs ahead.. Ex is damodar lila - The four vedas are glorifying him, yogis are
meditating on him, devotees are worshiping him, what yashoda is doing? putting him
to sleep with his bed time stories…., pariskhith maharaj is saying nanda kim akaroth
bhraman sreyeva mahodayam, krishna in bhagvad gita says i’m the ability in man,
but he gains the ability by holding the little pinky finger of his father…. Ragupathi
upadyay when meets guaranga mahaprabhu (Ishta dev is Nanda maharaj in who’s
courtyard krishna learns to crawl), yashoda - papovyasyasthana hari - hari who
sleeps on the ocean of milk is becoming thirsty and hungry and greedy to drink the
breast milk of yashoda, and when that mother gets angry - rudantam muhur netram
yugmam mrujantam karam bhoja yugmena sa aathankanetram, mother yashoda picks
the stick and krishna runs ahead…. In kunti’s perspective… krishna was protecting
her behind her and now krishna’s moving ahead and she’s stopping him don’t go to
dwaraka
Now which purusha ? adipurusha.. govindam adhipurusham, srila vishwanath
chakravarthy comments adi means madhurya rasa… O krishna when akrura was
taking you by chariot, the gopis cried then you didn’t leave vrindavan, i.e only partial
expansion of krishna as vasudeva left and krishna eternally continues to live in
vrindavan, so kunti devi is remembering that, so now similarly you are leaving in your
chariot to go to dwaraka may a partial expansion go you stay with us….
Was krishna only connected through blood relation to kunti? No : īśvaraṁ prakṛteḥ
param… means…. Isvara means controller, not a normal controller but prakṛteḥ
param, other controllers are within prakriti but krishna is a controller beyond this
world, classic example is: Ajamil (i called out to my son and what happened, the
yamadutha’s who are dragging me suddenly stopped and the yamapasha was cut by
the vishnudutha’s….) So krishna is īśvaraṁ prakṛteḥ param to such an extent that
yamaraj who is also isvara, his laws can be overturned by this isvara…. Another
classic example is: sandeepamuni (After the end of 64 days and when krishna
balaram went to sandeepamuni to give gurudakshina… his guru’s son was drowned in
the ocean… so he went to vishnu and yamaraj to get him back…. Another example is
of Shree rama (glance on the surface of the ocean and varuna dev came out….)
Another example is where nanda maharaj was taken by the associates of varun dev, so
Krishna went to varun lok to bring his father back….., so kunti devi is not offering
obeisances because of sentimental thought process becuase he supported all my life….
Then she says he’s not just for me, he’s for sarvabuthanam, what i have gained in my
life kunti devi says every living entity can, why because he is antar bahir avasthitam,,
krishna is inside everybody and outside everybody, some verses of bhagvad gita saying
this: sarvasya chaaham ridhisannivishtam… i’m in the heart of every living entity…,
ishvara sarvabuthanam riddhesharjunathishtathi .. i’m sitting in the heart of every living
entity… bhakthi vinod thakur said: success of one’s life is to see* krishna in the heart
not imagine a form, when the form is seen it’s not imagination any more.. experience
burns brighter than any imagination, if darshan is in the heart, then they will see krishna
everywhere, so kunti devi says although you are in the heart for everybody and you are
present everywhere nobody sees you alakshyam means he is invisble… why is he
invisble? Is said in the next verse…..
2nd verse:
māyā-javanikācchannam
ajñādhokṣajam avyayam
na lakṣyase mūḍha-dṛśā
naṭo nāṭyadharo yathā
3rd verse:
tathā paramahaṁsānāṁ
munīnām amalātmanām
bhakti-yoga-vidhānārthaṁ
kathaṁ paśyema hi striyaḥ
Meaning: O krishna this bhakthi is generally found in the great personalities, those who
perform bhakthi yoga they can appreciate you.. but what about others? Even though
kunti devi knows she is asking for others… (This is what maturity is… when we want to
pose a question we should never pose the characters in place.. so kunti devi instead of
asking how will conditioned souls see you… she is asking how will people like me see
you…)
Paramahamsanam - pure vaishnavas in this world, just like a swan takes the milk and
and leaves the water behind, in this world full of nectarean bhakthi and other gossip, they
take only krishna conscious bhakthi which is like milk and leave the water of gossip away
therefore they are called hamsa’s.. but krishna is also called hamsa because these hamsa
like devotees is soft it is like a ocean of nectar, the heart is rasik and krishna is the swan
who swims in that ocean / krishna becomes the swan and he swims in the ocean of heart
of such vaishnavas…. Ex is rupa goswami (paramahamsa)… so kunti devi is asking
vaishnava’s of such caliber can see you, what about mere mortals like us?….
Example by srila prabhupad - when father comes home leaves his chappal, Places the car
keys on the table and keeps the suitcase down.. the daughter by seeing the shoes of his
father remembers her father with help of shoe, the shoes, car keys and the suitcase doesn’t
have any connection to the father but just by seeing them it made her remember that her
father is back… similarly pure vaishnavas who have love for god see krishna everywhere
(Ex when sunrises….)
As our consciousness is colored by love that’s how are drushti is….
As a girl walks down a ile, a yogi sees that this is a eternal soul in a feminine body, and if
this is seen by a lusty person it may be tainted accordingly,if a tiger sees her it will try to
eat her (sato gun, rajo gun, tamo gun)… depending on the advancement of the
consciousness we look at things… Example of srila prabhupad (when devotees forget to
bring sweater for him)…. Prabodhananda saraswati - Ex of breeze in vrindavan (Gopi’s
searching for krishna in the forest and krishna trying to feel the presence of radha)
When a vaishnav sees trees: every tree is a full filling desire, manigriva and nalakuver &
krishna, When prabhupad was asked what was the qualification we got you? Prabhupad
said you didn’t have any qualification i made your qualification….. tree doesn’t see who is
standing why where and how, the tree does it’s vasthu shiddhi shakthi… giving shade and
shelter… even though we cut down, it gives the best fruits and flower it can give… ex of
woodpekker even though it pecks the tree, the tree agains give the shelter, so mahaprabhu
says we should be more tolerant than that tree….
Prayers of Queen Kunti Day - 3
4th verse:
kṛṣṇāya vāsudevāya
devakī-nandanāya ca
nanda-gopa-kumārāya
govindāya namo namaḥ
Meaning:
To see krishna how shishupal did, to see ram how ravana did, to see narsimha as
hiranyakaspu did, that’s like seeing the x-ray, but to read that yiu need the vision that
hanuman had towards ram, the vision that prahalad had towards narsingha dev, the
vision that the brajwasi’s had towards krishna, so it’s not seeing the world but reading
the world… not just seeing them but by connecting them to our master,
So dear devotees whenever on the path of bhakthi we feel helpless, we feel shelterless,
we feel hopeless, when you feel i am completely finished… chant the holy names of the
lord… Kunti devi in utter humilty… in this verse and the upcoming verse calls the names
of the lord
These two verse have two things in common: naam and namaha (chanting holy name
through tongue and physically offering obeisances) Ex of krishna eating dirt (balaram’s
complaint… yashoda’s concern… krishna’s innocence (when mother yashoda saw the
entire universe she called the names of vishnu for help.. prabhupad said)
The first name krishna
# Hand of God
1) Krsna das kaviraj Goswamni in Chaitanya Charitamrit, said we should take time
out to read Chaitanya Charitamrit every day, by reading, hearing and relishing the
past times of Mahaprabhu, One will have transcendental knowledge in the head
and one will have estatic symptoms in the heart….
Many times in the process of gaining transcendental knowledge in the head, the
weight of the head increases, because we end up being phd’s with the mind and
kindergartens at the heart…. Because when life tests us, the heart speaks not the
head, the head doesn’t work anymore…
When people throw stones into the water pond of our consciousness, either it can
create ripples of ecstasy seeing krishna’s hand, or it can agitate our
consciousness, so what is the tipping point… what is the point after which we start
getting agitated ? It varies depending on the consciousness… The lower the
consciousness the lower the tipping point is… very quickly we get agitated for the
smallest things possible….. and we justify it wonderfully…. But more advance the
consciousness is, the tipping point is so high that even if hiranyakashpu tries his
best it doesn’t reach the tipping point of Prahalad…..
It is not that hiranyakashpu has had a department to take care of the killing of
prahalad, he is personally supervising the task, for hiranyakashpu his only job he
had in his mind was the destruction of prahalad…. 330 million demigods are
cutting vegetables in his kitchen, that’s how great hiranyakashpu was as far as
taking charge of control in the lives of others, he had armies with him, he had
powerful weapons with him, he had studied all the shashtras possible…. Ravana,
kamasa, hiranyakashpu they know all the philosophy, they know all the stories, all
the commentaries, purports, slokas and the conclusions of everything….
What makes them a demon? They don’t follow it….
So now hiranyakashpu’s only agenda is to kill prahalad, and it doesn’t agitate
prahalad…. He can preacefully honor prasadam, he can peacefully chant the holy
name, because his tipping point doesn’t exist, he does not get agitated , because he
sees the hand of Krishna…
So Kaviraj Goswami says by reading Chaitanya Charitamrit not just the knowledge
of the head but the consciousness Lotus blowsoms to such an extent that all good
qualities comes in, such that we see krishna’s hand in everything….. and even when
there are reasons to get agitated the person doesn’t get agitated…. For a conditioned
soul when there are no reasons to get agitated he gets agitated …
2) Example: When we get into marital arts coaching class, and here is the teacher
who is fighting with the student, not because he envys the student, but he wants his
student to be better than where he is at the point, so sometimes he may punch him,
sometimes he may knock him down, but now if the student starts thinking that the
teacher hates me, every time i go to the class he takes me as a punching bag and
pucnhes me, is that the right understanding? That student will never grow becuase
he sees that something detrimental to his happiness…
But on the other hand if he is convinced that his martials arts teacher loves him and
just wants him to be better and better and better….. so any punch it’s only to check
how strongly his defense is… and if the defense is good he can protect if not that’s a
scope to work on…..
So we are convinced that Krishna is our Best well wisher and Martial Arts teacher,
and this world is a classroom of martial arts… so when we get punches and blows
and kicks in life, it’s not somebody else envys us, it’s because krishna uses them as
an instrument to punch us to see how much our consciousness is developed……
Now if you see this person is doing and we have no connection to that person, so we
don’t see him as our well-wisher and therefore we don’t take punches from anyone…..
But if you see any reversal in life, anything happy or anything sad it’s ultimately
coming form krishna…..
There are three things actually
i) Krishna is the supreme controller - which means every situation that comes on our
plate has actually been sanctioned by krishna becuase he is the controller…
There will never be a case we will go to krishna and say why this happened to me and
krishna will say: “well i tried my best and that’s all i can do, i heard your japa, this is
wrong, this shouldn’t happen in your life but what to do.. surya and chandra are way
more stronger, rahu and kethu are way more stronger..”… Krishna will never say
that…
Because every situation gets sanctioned by him every situation….
ii) Krishna never makes mistakes - because it’s possible that krishna controlled it, may
be it’s possible that krishna sanctioned it, but after sanctioning he’ll realise that: “ohhh
I am sorry, i gave the karma of the neighbour to this neighbour”… No krishna will
never say that….. means what we get is well calculated by him over lifetimes..
We don’t know ourselves as well as krishna knows us…. We don’t love ourselves as
krishna loves us… because we see ourselves 30 yrs 40 yrs snd 50yrs into this
body… but krishna knows us for last 50 billion lifetimes.. he knows every single thing
we have done, spoken, we have concieved and even imagined… and krishna
calculates… LOADING PLEASE WAIT… but there’s no ERROR 404…
iii) Krishna loves me like no one else in the whole creation as ever loved me - even we
don’t love ourselves the way krishna loves us, even our mothers can’t love us the way
krishna loves us… because when we were in our mother’s womb, we had not seen our
mother and our mother has not seen us…. We left the previous mother and came into
the mother, between the two mothers who is the one who is protecting me?
Who is the one loving me at that point of time and nourishing me in the womb? My
mother gets attached to me after i was born, what about before i was born? Where
was i ? Krishna was loving me even then…. It’s just that I don’t see his hand..
So if i am convinced that krishna is the supreme controller, if i am convinced that
krishna never makes mistake, and if am convinced that krishna loves me… every
situation that comes to me on my plate of life is actually a punch coming from my
martial arts teacher called Krishna only to make me stronger in life…. Only to see if I
actually mean what i’m saying… and then if your are able to defend, that means what
you are saying through prayers we are actually there…. Prahalad was there….
Prahalad was instructing everyone to see krishna in everything and in all
circumstances…..
So narsinghadev thought of testing prahalad on the same principle that prahalad was
preaching…. Hiranyakashpu asked prahalad: “where is your vishnu?”… and prahalad
said he is everywhere… that’s when hiranayakasphu slams the pillar, what about this
pillar? Prahalad maharaj looks in the pillar and there he sees narsingha dev warming
up…. Prahalad maharaj looks inside and asks what do i say? Narsingha dev said I’m
ready…. and hiranyakashpu slams the pillar and there comes the supreme lord….
Because prahalad has won his heart winning over the test….
Many times we hear this, we read this but when life pinches us we scream in our
mother tongue? i.e we can learn multiple languages, but when we are pinched in the
sleep we scream in our mother tongue…. Maybe we can act in 10 different languages
in front of our spouse, in front of our friends, in front of our family… but when
krishna pinched us through circumstances…. We exclaim in the consciousness we are
in……
How many times have all of us thought about it… when someone tells us something
and we feel so tempted to give back a response and we often do it and later repent…
And how many times honestly have we felt happy that we kept quiet in a very very
provocative situation? And later we felt ahhhh thank you krishna …thank you for
shutting my mouth at that point….
What gives us that strength? It is hearing about krishna and chanting about him….
You can read about roti sabji dhal rice, you can hear about roti sabji dhal rice, you
can speak about roti sabji dhal rice, you can even imagine roti sabji dhal rice… but till
the time you actually taste it, the body is gonna be weak… only after tasting it the
body is gonna get strong…
So we can speak about bhakthi, we can speak about chanting, we can hear about
bhakthi, we can read about bhakthi, we can even think about bhakthi, but till the time
we actually don’t chant the holy name and engage in service, and we don’t actually
practically jump in the ocean of bhakthi our consciousness will not develop….
Krishna consciousness is not about just putting the tilak, wearing the kanti mala and
change of dress… that is important but it is KRISHNA CONSCIOUSNESS, the
consciousness lotus must blossom… which means our responses we were giving 10
years ago and what we’re giving now and what we will give 10 years from now should
be different… there is never ever ever a circumstance where someone is a good
devotee and a bad human being… not possible, because a good devotee is not only a
good devotee in the temple, but he is a devotee in all circumstances at home at work,
when he gains money, when he looses money, when he gains health, when he looses
health, when someone glorifies him, when someone criticises him, because he sees the
hand of krishna in everything…
If we don’t see the hand of krishna when something auspicious happens to us we are
happy and when something inauspicious happens to us we are sad, But when we are
convinced that every circumstance comes through Krishna who loves us.. I may not
be able to see it as happiness but it actually good for me…
Example: when we stand for gaining charanamrit in the temple of the lotus feet of
the spiritual master… do we stand first analysing whether it is made up of water or
panchamrit, we don’t care right? For us the fact that the charanamrit has touched
the lotus feet of the lord that’s all that matters… Similarly whether it’s happiness or
distress, the fact that it has touched the body of the Lord lifes becomes charanamrit
for us…. We accept every circumstance irrespective of whatever it is because we
know it is sent by Krishna…
Does it matter which male boy brings the letter? It doesn’t matter… All that matters
is who’s sending it to us… when we get letters at home, it doesn’t matter who’s
bringing it, all that matters is who’s sending it, we thank that person, I really
appreciate you for bringing this to me, and we spend more time opening the envelope
and reading it… Similarly who brings it doesn’t matter, who’s sending that
circumstance in our life matters
Example: sometimes when children are very small, the father plays with the child, he
picks the child and tries to throw the child and plays with the child right? So now are
they enemies of the child? No. But when the first time when the father throws the
child, the child thinks what is this? I came to get embraced by my father and here is
my father throwing me.. but when they realise that the person throwing is the person
waiting there with the open arm …. the child gains confidence … so here multiple
things happen… 1) the father is playing with the child, because the child doesn’t know
that he feels fear… similarly krishna as our father plays with us and we feel it as
trouble, only if we understand the person who is playing with us is the one who is
ready to protect or hold us when we take shelter of him.. 2) Now once the child
understand that the father is playing with me, even when the father stops doing…
The child wants him to play more, and the father says okay one more time… and he
asks him for one more time… Initially the child didn’t like it… but as the child
understand that his father is playing with him, he doesn’t hate me, he is my protector,
he is my maintainer, the child wants more and more of this… This is what exactly
Queen Kunti is asking for… O krishna please give me more and more trouble which
means play with me more, because every time i’m in the air, i’m looking down only at
you for help… How many of us look up to krishna when we are happy? But when we
are sad even an atheist says “Oh my GOD!”.
So actually some pain is good, so krishna gives it through circumstances, it’s not that
he does it on his own, he’s doing only to facilitate our past karma, but we end up
complicating entangling the circumstance more and more by blaming people around
us…
Example (Aindra Prabhu): If you throw a bone it front of a dog what does the dog
see? It sees food.. Now try throwing a bone in front of a lion, what does the lion
see? The bone and very quickly at the thrower of the bone… he’s not gonna focus
more on the bone… You throw a bone at the dog, it is busy licking the bone, analysing
the dimensions of the bone not so much about who threw the bone, he takes the bone
and forgets the thrower, but the lion is not like that, the lion sees the bone for a
second and an hour long glance to the person who is throwing the bone… This is the
difference between the Dog mentality and the Lion mentality, Krishna throws the bone
like circumstances in our life, and if you are busy only looking at the circumstance
and blaming the people in the circumstance, it’s like analysing the bone, licking the
bone, looking at the bone with nothing to do about who throw the bone, but the lion
consciousness is looking at the bone like circumstance in life and very quickly see
who threw that circumstance at me? And that is Krishna… So what consciousness
do you want?
Circumstance can be different, sometimes the bone can be big, bone can be thin from
a dog’s perspective, if it gets a little bone it gets unhappy, but if it gets a big bone its
happy… but wether the bone is big or small it doesn’t matter to the lion, because the
lion is not interested with the bone but at the thrower of the bone, is it not? But a
devotee looks at the bone like circumstance whether it’s thin or small, it’s happy or
distress, doesn’t matter, person who’s throwing that bone matters and that’s
KRISHNA, and that NEVER CHANGES, if we love the thrower of the bone, then it
doesn’t matter what the bone is…. That’s the lion mentality is and to teach this e
came as half man and half lion…
Example: Playing a Game Anthakshari… when we play that game and we get a letter,
do we fight why this letter and change the letter…
