Our team carried out this research to find out the people’s opinion regarding old age homes.
Through our research we would like to elucidate on what the purpose of an old age home is and
what they contribute to our society.
WHAT IS RESEARCH METHODOLOGY?
Research methodology refers to how our team carried out the research. For example, how our
team decided upon the topic.
The different types of data we were able to collect, and how we analyzed all this data.
OBJECTIVES OF OUR RESEARCH:
• The purpose of our team is to conduct research about how relevant old age homes are, and to
find out whether they are an asset to our society.
• The main aim of our research is to find out what the society thinks of old age homes, and
whether they are better than home care.
• To achieve new insights into our research by interviewing seasoned professioanals, who have
extensive experience in this field of care
• To portray accurately the mindset and needs of the elderly in this project

• To gain an understanding of how the general public feel towards housing their elderly04
family
METHODS OUR TEAM USED TO CARRY OUT THE RESEARCH:
∙ Analysis of various documents: Our team went through statistical compilations and
manipulations, reference and abstract guides, contents analysis.
∙ Group and Personal interview: We have interviewed small groups of people and have also
interviewed a professional geriatric nurse.
∙ Google survey: We used google survey as a survey technique for information and discerning
opininion.
∙ Mass observation: We have also recorded mass behaviour, interviewed using independent
observers in public places.

A retirement home – sometimes called an old people's home or old age home,
although old people's home can also refer to a nursing home is a multi-residence
housing facility intended for the elderly. Typically, each person or couple in the
home has an apartment-style room or suite of rooms. Additional facilities are
provided within the building. This can include facilities for meals, gatherings,
recreation activities, and some form of health or hospital care.

A retirement home differs from a nursing home primarily
in the level of medical care given. Retirement
communities, unlike retirement homes, offer separate and
autonomous homes for residents.
Retirement homes offer meal-making and some personal care
services, according to ARCO. Assisted living facilities, memory care
facilities and nursing homes can all be referred to as retirement
homes. The cost of living in a retirement home varies from $25,000
to $100,000 per year, although it can exceed this range, according to
Senior Living Near Me's senior housing guide.

In the United Kingdom there were about 750,000

places across 25,000 retirements housing schemes
in 2021 with a forecast that numbers would grow by
nearly 10% over the next five years.

We have received over 35+ responses for our survey, which we conducted through the means
of a google form. The results have shown that the public is quite divided regarding whether
old age homes are a better option when compared to private nursing. This proves that this
question is not as black and white, and there is a great deal of individual preference that goes
into this decision.

From these results, our group has realized that people are aware of what an old age home is,
and what it offers. But are still unsure on whether it an option they would consider. This
study is based on two main ideas. One, that people would have a better understanding of
what an old age home is and what it offers. And two, that people would have a better
understanding of the services an old age home has to offer, and how they can benefit from it.

We have conducted this survey in order to analyze the public opinion of old age homes,
and whether it would be considered as a housing option when people have elderly family
members. This survey has shown us that people are indeed aware of what an old age home
entails, but are a bit hesitant in considering it as a housing option, for their elderly family
members.
Most of the people are very well aware of the fact that, old age homes provide the following:
∙ Appropritate medical equipments
∙ Highly trained geriatric nurses
∙ Better mental health rates
∙ Housekeeping and personal care

We have found conducting surveys and interviews, collecting data and its analysis during
the pandemic, a challenging task. Organizing regular meetings online, maintaining
communication with the team members was necessary, if not it would have resulted in loss
of time and decrease in efficiency. We also found decisiion making time consuming as

Question: I'd love to learn about your journey of becoming a geriatric nurse, how you first
became interested in working with older adults, what drew you towards this career path, and
what you enjoy most about your job.
My dad had a stroke attack at 2010. I am the only daughter of my parents. I had no job ,
because I only completed Nurse High School. So I Took care of My dad,and my little son
4years old. My Son had Kawasaki disease at the same time. I didn’t have much money to pay
the hospital. In Bataknese culture, a daughter must take care of their parents. My husband
didn’t agree with that. He is Ambonese. I was confused. Then I worked as a homecare nurse.
They paid me enough for 24 hours.I thought so many people have the same problem just like
me. And services for elderly in Indonesia didn’t have enough regulations, human resources,
and the experiences.
I worked only 1 year. 2011 I got opportunity as a general manager in new nursing home. I had
no experience. Thanks to God, He gave me number of talents, among 3 candidates ( two of
them were from Nurse academy with a degree of nursing) my boss chose me. And the journey
began. Learn by condition. Icontinued my Nursing academy until I got my Nursing 1st degree
while I wasworking In nursing home. It was for 4 years.
Then I decided to make a new Nursing home of my own in 2015 until now. I continued my

Question: In order to become a geriatric nurse, what kind of educational courses or
specialized training did you have to take?
I certified in Demensia Care skill from ADI : Alzheimer Desease International with 3 rd bests. I
certified as nurse assessor. I certified as a geriatric nurse too.
Question: What are some of your most memorable moments, while interacting with your
patients?
My memorable moment with patient : it was when I spoke with people with dementia. Why?
because its very difficult to talk to them , when it worked I was so happy to understand their
needs. And while taking care of elderly with critical illness and emergency cases, i felt the
actual nurse jobs, and I love it.

Through our thorough research and analysis of data collected, we have concluded that old
age homes are a much better option to care for the elderly than private nurses, hospital stay,
or even in - house care.

Our conclusion, is a result of the following factors:

∙ Old age homes are medically equipped to take care of residents who require long term
care, for non-critical conditions (such as dementia, which is more manageable in an old
age home).
∙ Old age homes have much more professional staff and more personal care than in -
house care.
∙ Old age homes provide a sense of community and belonging for their residents. This
provides a sense of purpose and meaning for an elderly person when they are no longer
able to contribute to the community around themselves.

A retirement home – sometimes called an old people's home or old age home, although old
people's home can also refer to a nursing home – is a building designed or adapted for the
housing of people who need care and assistance with daily living, such as dressing, bathing,
eating, and walking, but who are not in a hospital or similar institution for long-term care.
Most homes are for older adults, but some are for younger people with special needs, such as
intellectual disabilities.

Working on this project has helped me to gain important new insight into old age homes or
nursing homes. I have learned a lot about the types of activities that take place in a retirement
or nursing home, and about the way that retirement or nursing homes are run. I have also
learned about some of the challenges that are faced by both employees and residents in this
type of setting. It has been interesting to learn more about the history of old age homes, and
to meet some of the people who work in these homes. Retirement homes and nursing homes
can be difficult places to work, but they are also rewarding.

This project has provided me with a good opportunity to apply my academic knowledge to a
real-world problem. It has also broadened my perspective and taught me new skills, such as No:

how to work more effectively as part of a team. It has also given me the opportunity to20

An old parent staying in an old age home is common phenomenon. But is it suitable? most
elderly people can not reconcile themselves to the thought of living in old age homes. we,
their children, wants them to live happily, in peace and preferable in the one place where they
have always lived – their own homes. but this is a digital age. aged parents are often left alone
while their children go abroad to live and work so, the next logical step is to put an older
parent or mother in an old age home. While there is nothing fundamentally wrong with
staying remaining in an old age home, it does offend sensibilities.

In this project I was responsible for compilation of the survey. And what I have realized is that
most of the people believes that old age homes are great alternatives than a private nurse.
One of the elements that make old age homes appealing to elders is the security and the
friendship they get. they exist at constant company of people their own years. if their kids are
away from the family, they have to go alone and this will cause stress and unhappiness. Living
at the old age homes may give rise to feelings of rejection, too. Ideally there should be a
friend at family who will fill the void. Friendship is paramount, particularly for those who
have missed their partners.
