So for some reason or another, I caught a random sten obsession, and decided to build a few. This is my
sten mk2.5, a mkii sten build on a mkiii trigger group. Not correct, but I'm sure it happened a few times
during the war.
Really skimped out on documenting the last part of the build and posting as I go, but really only the welding,
front sight, and bluing is missing I think. Here goes
tube as it comes

Anyways, here is my sten MK2.5 pistol with Indy Ord. parts. I was able to borrow a welder from an
awesome friend to do my welding. The pistol grip mounting lug is notched, and a big OL' blob of weld was
put in the triggerguard/housing respectively, so only the pistol grip fits.
I didnt do any polishing before my bluing, to keep an aged look. I love how it turned out.
Almost forgot - Did a quick test in my yard with it. Shot 10 rounds flawlessly. I did 5, and handed it off to my
dad (who cant stop admiring it) and he did some "double taps"

Other than the visible multiple springs through the charging handle, it looks like something that could have
been carried by a wily British Commando or French Partisan during WW2.
Looks awesome! I applaud your "I'm not paying that...for that" attitude.

Oh, I get it. You welded on the pistol grip over the detachable stock slot.
That's pretty cool, though.
I'm thinking of doing my MKII with the 7.62 x 25mm 16" barrel option from Indianapolis ordinance.
Does anyone know the trick to modifying the magazine?

Just came across this thread. Looks like a neat project. Are there any of these kits still around? I'd like to do
a MKII with the skeletonized stock........The receiver looks like an easy build.

Do a google on New Zealand local patten STEN, they used a Mk3 type head assembly with a Mk2 barrel.
Very similar design to yours.
Has anyone ever decide to do a Mk1*? It would be really easy if you have a Mk2 and 3 parts kit as pretty
much every part is there between the 2 marks.

The most complicated part of the mki* would be the muzzlenut I think.

The muzzle nut isn't really a nut. There is a end cap and then a bushing fits into the end cap to support the
barrel.
As far as I have determined, you need a Mk2 head assembly, Mk2 magazine housing, mk3 barrel, and Mk3
ejector. You would need to modify the Mk2 mag housing by removing the barrel nut lock assembly and filling
in the holes. The Mk3 ejector needs to have the inner counter sunk hole filled, drilled and tapped to 2BA.
You need a New made rear barrel trunnion, end cap, barrel bushing, front sight and 2 x long 2BA screws
The tube has similar features to the Mk3 (The Mk3 is a simplified Mk1 and the 1, 2 and 3 were all in
production at the same time), the ventilation holes in the tube are in the same place, the rear trunnion is
held by rivets in the same place etc.
If you have a lathe, you can make the barrel trunnion, end cap and barrel bushing in a few hours. I can post
pics of my parts as I've not fitted them as yet.

Anyone know how to get the barrel shroud off of a MK5? My parts kit shroud looks like a tank ran over it.

Thanks brit plumber...any idea if the bayonet mounting unit has to be removed to take off the site or the
shroud?

Looking back over your pictures rcbif, a couple more questions come to mind.
Did you spot weld or plug weld the tabs on the trigger housing to the tube? The weld at the back of the tube
and the handle weld look almost like a MIG weld, was that what you used?
Did Indianapolis Ordinance tell you whether the 4130 receiver tube was annealed or normalized?
Their website only mentions that it is "aircraft grade" 4130.
Nice job, btw.

Yes, the "tabs" are plug welded. Two 1/4" holes were drilled side by side, and plug welded. There is a fillet
weld infront of the rear sight, and two spot welds joining the rear of the tube, and the trigger housing ""ring"
at 3 and 9 o clock.
These welds wont have tons of force on them. Just small shock loads from recoil, and the force of the
striker grabbing.
The front trunnion/barrel bushing also has 4 plug welds, 1/4in holes, spaced equally. I then did a seam weld,
and ground it down. The seam weld probably wasent even necessary, but if the plug welds fail, the seam
weld would be a visual indicator.
As for the handle, half of the glob wasent mine. It's a cheap indian repro I had to fix. It was HUGE, so I had
to remove material.
Not sure about the type of steel tubing they use, but I doubt they do anything other than machine it if that
tells you anything. Havent heard of anyone dieing in an explosion yet  (and they sell plenty of
kits)
