with right operation
temperature profile.

Note: Temperature profile is affected by the

selected “Wait-On-Cement” in the Drill
Operation Details for Cementing
Operations. “Wait-On-Cement” value is
dependent on recipe thickening time.
Therefore, when selecting “Wait-On-
Cement” value, refer to the cement recipe
thickening time. Most of cement recipes
thickening time is within 5hrs.

6.3 Minimum Casing Loads: Create Casing Load

Cases and fill them correctly as per PDO
Casing & Tubing Design Manual SP-2410.

Casing Loads are categorized into three main

categories:
• Axial.
• Burst (Triaxial).
• Collapse.

For Each created Load Case, fill the following:

• Name.
• Type.
• Details.
Following are some of the main Load
Cases supported with comments.
Refer to SP-2410 for minimum required
Load Cases and add extra if required.
Axial Load Comments

Test is exceeding casing capability, it
should be lowered.

- Type: Pressure Test.

- External Pressure Profile: Fluid
Gradients (w/Pore Pressure).
- Pump pressure value should be
in line with SP-2410
requirements.
- P/T is not a driven load. If value
is exceeding casing capability, it
should be lowered.

kPa/m + Max. PP Gradient.
Example1:
- Max PP = 20 kPa.
- Default KI = 0.59 kPa.
- Mud weight: 18 kPa.
- Kick Intensity = 20 + 0.59 - 18 =
2.59 kPa/m
Example2 :
- Max PP = 20 kPa.
- Default KI = 0.59 kPa.
- Mud weight: 20.2 kPa .
- Kick Intensity = 20 + 0.59 –

if Tubing& Connection can withstand all the
defined loads along with Buckling study.

Following is a list of most important results

which helps to design a cost-effective Tubing:

Single Load Outputs: Single Load

output shows the results against one
Load at a time.

• Pressures.
• Tubing Temperatures.
• Length Change Bar Chart.
• Packer Schematic.

Multiple Loads Outputs: Multiple Multiple Loads Outputs

Loads outputs show the results
against Multiple Operations at a time.

• Design Limits Plot-Pipe body result

• ISO Service Load Limits Plot-
Connection’s result (if applicable).
• Length Change Bar Chart (only
available if Tubing is not fully
Cemented).
• Packer Operating Envelop.

Summaries Outputs: Summaries Summaries Outputs:

outputs show the results in Tabular
form.

• Minimum API Safety Factor.

• Tubing Load.
• Packer Load.
• Maximum Allowable Wear.

❖ WELLCAT MultiString MultiString Module:
8 R/W access Module WELLCAT’s MultiString Module is used to to analyze
{Work Station}
the influence of the thermal expansion of annulus
Cycle Time: fluids, and/or the influence of loads imparted on the
20min wellhead during the life of the well, on the integrity of
a well’s tubulars.
WHO:
Well Engineer P&D
Note:
• The MultiString product requires data from each
of the other four WELLCAT products (Casing,
Tube, Drill, and Prod). Well configuration data,
casing loads, tubing loads, user inputs, and
results from drilling and production thermal
analyses from Drill and Prod, respectively are
used to build a MultiString load case.
• Wellhead movement has more impact on
thermal wells which has high temperature
reaching to 350c. However, slight impact on
normal wells including HPHT wells. So, as
practice, simulation is not done for most of the
cases for non-thermal wells.

MultiString data entry workflow:

Activate MultiString → Analyze → Annular Fluid
Expansion

8.1 Annular Fluid Expansion: Fill:

Define Details:
Initial Usually “Undisturbed” conditions
Operation unless special requirements.
Final Operation results in hottest thermal
Operation conditions unless special
requirements.
Gas Cap The input fields would be available
Options only for the string which is not fully
cemented. In SOP example other
than 4 ½” Production Tubing all
strings are fully cemented.
Volume This field is used if resultant TAP-
Bled Trapped Annular Pressure is high
enough that one or more than one
production strings cannot sustain
the pressure. So, to mitigate the
impact of TAP, some volume is to
Bled off to secure well’s integrity.

Define Custom Loads:

• Select the String to analyze against TAP.
• Enter the data in “AFE, Max Burst & Max
Collapse” tabs where applicable. In SOP
example, “AFE, Max Burst & Max Collapse”
loads are applicable for 4 1/4” Tubing, “Max
Burst” load is valid for 7” Production Liner & 9
5/8” Production Casing as both are exposed to
Annulus-A, whereas 13 3/8” Intermediate & 18
5/8” Surface Casing none of “AFE, Max Burst &
Max Collapse” is relevant because they are fully
Cemented inside and out.
Note:
• The list of Tubulars is coming from “Casing
& Tubing Configuration” spread sheet.
• If any of “AFE, Max Burst & Max Collapse”
loads are not applicable for the selected
string, the respective tab’s data entry
section will display “Load Scenario not
Applicable”. If applicable, enter the
required data in the corresponding tab.
8.2 MultiString Module Result: MultiString Module Single Load Outputs
determines the Pressures due to the Expansion
of Annular Fluids, and the position
(displacement) of the wellhead over the life of
the well. These pressure loads and wellhead
displacement values are used to determine the
integrity of a well’s tubulars.

Note: To correctly conduct a MultiString

analysis, you first must have correctly defined
“Drill” and “Prod” operations to establish
“Casing and Tube Initial and Final Temperature”
conditions for each string.:

• Single Load Outputs: Single Load output Multiple Loads Outputs

shows the results against one Load at a
time:
o Pressures.
o Axial Loads.
o Casing Temperatures.
o Length Change Bar Chart.
Note: Above mentioned results can be
analysed for all strings by selecting from
“String Selector” dropdown list within main
toolbar.

Summaries Outputs
• Multiple Loads Outputs: Multiple Loads
outputs show the results against Multiple
Loads at a time:

o Design Limits Plot-Pipe body result.

o ISO Service Load Limits Plot-
Connection’s result (if applicable).
o Differential Pressure.
o Length Change Bar Chart (only
available for the string which are not
fully Cemented).
Note: Above mentioned results must be
analysed for all strings by selecting from
“String Selector” dropdown list within main
toolbar.

• Summaries Outputs: Summaries outputs

show the results in Tabular form.

o Multi-String AFE (Gives AFE &

Resultant TAP & only available for
Completion/Tubing String).
o Movement (This result is not
applicable for fully cemented Strings).
