Energize the detector, press the MODE key after it enters the detection status, and
input the password (the default is 1111), press and hold the MODE key. If foregoing
operations are correct, the main menu will be displayed, as shown in Fig. 7; if wrong,
a prompt showing "WRONG PASSWORD" will be displayed and the detector will
return to the detection status.

Note: items shall be used with caution. Always confirm the reference
tool is accurate and reliable in case of operating such items.

It is recommended that the user not change this item at discretion to avoid
forgetting the password which may result in failure to operate the instrument.
5 Use and Operation of the Instrument
5.1 Instrument Startup
After completing site installation, energize the detector after confirming the detector
system is correctly wired as described in Section 3.1. The instrument starts starting
up, warming up and self-checking. Generally, the warm-up of the detector is
completed within 1 minute *1. The startup pictures are as shown in Fig. 8.

Self-checking

Fig. 8
If the detector is self-checked unsatisfactorily and outputs 22mA, please check the
instrument.
If the instrument is self-checked satisfactorily, it enters the detection status as
shown in Fig. 9, the detector outputs corresponding working current of site
measured value and the controller will display the measured value.

Note: *1 The warm-up time of the detector is confirmed based on the properties of
the sensor and common bias-free gas complies with this standard.
5.2 Instrument Calibration

RAEsystems 11
User's Manual SP-3104Plus

The two-point calibration, i.e. zero calibration and gas calibration, is adopted for the
detector. For the calibration standard, please refer to pertinent national metering
verification regulations such as JJG915-2008 Carbon Monoxide Detector Alarm
Verification Regulation based on the type of the measuring gas of the detector.
5.2.1 Zero Calibration
Preparations for zero calibration:
Confirm the instrument operating environment is an environment with clean air.
Otherwise, a clean air shall be fed into the instrument using standard air bottle
through calibration hood (see gain calibration).
Confirm the instrument is in normal operation (in case of long-time
de-energization, it is recommended to carry out zero calibration after 30-minute
warming up upon energization).
Click the MODE key as shown in Fig. 10. Input the password (the default is 1111
or the system password 1250) through the "+" or"-" key and clicking the MODE key,
press and hold the MODE key for confirmation. If the foregoing operations are
correct, the main menu will be displayed, as shown in Fig. 7.

Please input the password

Fig. 10
Zero calibration operation:

Let the cursor select through the "+" or "-" key and click the MODE key to
enter the "Zero Calibration" status. The instrument outputs 4mA, and the menus
starts counting down, as shown in Fig. 11. The figure at the lower part of the picture
means the time value to be counted down (this value is determined based on the
type of the gas sensor and is 60 in general).

Zero Calibration

Press the "-" key to cancel "Zero Calibration".
The instrument returns to the main menu after automatic zero adjustment. At
this moment, the instrument and controller display ZERO and the instrument
outputs 4mA.
5.2.2 Calibration Operation
The measurement accuracy of the detector can be ensured only after completing
two-point calibration, so it is required to carry out gas calibration after zero
calibration during detector maintenance. The gas calibration shall be carried out
using standard gas with some concentration, so it is necessary to set the
concentration value of the standard gas to be used before gas calibration.
Setting operation:
After entering the main menu (operation is the same as above-mentioned), let

the cursor select through the "+" or "-" key and click the MODE key with 4mA
outputted from the instrument to enter the "Gas Calibration" status as shown in Fig.
12. The figure at the lower part of the picture means the gas concentration value to
be set. Set the value at the frame position to the known concentration value of the
calibration gas through the "+" or "-" key and clicking the MODE key.

Gas Calibration

Fig. 12
Recommendation: The standard gas with concentration between 40% and
60% of the full range shall be adopted.
Press and hold the MODE key for confirmation to enter SAVE YES OR NO
interface, as shown in Fig. 13. Press the "+" key to select "YES" so as to save the
set concentration value; press the "-" key to select "NO" so as not to save the set
concentration value. The default is the factory set value of the instrument.

Gas Calibration:
Don't carry out gas calibration operation for the detector before setting the
calibration value. Please note: two-point calibration shall be carried out as per the
sequence of zero calibration setting of calibration value gas calibration,
especially the zero calibration must be carried out before gas calibration.
Preparations for gas calibration (as shown in Fig. 14):
A pressure relief valve is mounted on the standard gas bottle to be used and
shall be a pressure relief valve within the flow adjustment range specified in the
inspection specification or a pressure relief valve with constant flow.
The standard gas hose is used to connect the pressure relief valve to the
standard gas hood and shall be a standard gas hose made of PTFE material.
Open the main valve of the pressure relief valves.

to be counted down (this value is determined based on the type of the gas sensor
and is 60 in general).

Gas Calibration

Click the "-" key to cancel "Gas Calibration".
After automatic gain adjustment for the instrument is completed, "Calibration is
successful" will be displayed, as shown in Fig. 16. The figure at the lower part of the
picture means the time value to be counted down. At this moment, the instrument
display and controller shall indicate the standard gas concentration value within the
error range and the instrument outputs the corresponding current. If "Calibration
fails" is displayed, the instrument outputs 22mA. Please repeat the
above-mentioned steps for instrument calibration.

successful!

Close the pressure relief valve and remove the calibration hood, meaning the
calibration is completed.
6 Setting of Instrument Parameters
When the detector becomes a part of the system that also includes other controllers,
if the display terminal of the detector isn't consistent with controller display value
due to the deviation from detector output reference or from full-scale current or for
other reason, the deviation can be corrected through adjusting 4mA or 20mA output
current. However, it is required to determine the reason for such deviation before
such adjustment. Therefore, this operation shall be completed with the help of
confirmed accurate current measuring tools; otherwise, improper adjustment will
increase system measurement deviation.
