Course Calendar Description:


Overview of D.O.T. and other international aviation standards (eg. FAA), regulations and certification
procedures; regulatory areas, namely, pilot training/testing, air traffic procedures, aircraft systems design
and airworthiness; development process for new regulations and criteria for certification

Course Objectives:
Standards, Regulations and Certification represent a combination of two subjects: aviation and law. The
aviation field addresses the design, manufacture, test, certification and operation of aircraft of various
types. The legal field concentrates on standards of conduct and operation for pilots, mechanics,
manufacturers and other aviation related businesses.

By the end of this course, you should be familiar with the concept of airworthiness and its scope of
application, airworthiness authorities, international and Canadian standards and regulations related to
design and testing of aircraft, certification processes, occupant safety, continued airworthiness and
aviation safety.

The course will emphasize both theory as well as practical application using case studies & a guest
lecture. In addition, the Professor’s own experience will be used to illustrate real-world examples from
industry
