MAPEGUARD WP ADHESIVE

Two-component, rapid-drying elastic cementitious adhesive for bonding and sealing overlaps of
Mapeguard WP 200, joints between adjacent sheets of Mapeguard UM 35 with Mapeband Easy and the
relative special pieces

WHERE TO USE
· Bonding and sealing overlaps of Mapeguard WP 200.
· Bonding and sealing Mapeguard ST on Mapeguard WP 200.
· Bonding and sealing Mapeguard IC, Mapeguard EC, Mapeguard PC.
· Bonding Mapeband Easy to seal the joints between adjacent sheets of Mapeguard UM 35.
· Bonding Mapeband Easy when used together with Mapeguard UM 35 for waterproofing edges and corners.
· Bonding Drain Vertical/Drain Lateral on Mapeguard UM 35.
· Mapeguard WP Adhesive is suitable for application in wall and floor areas.

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS
Mapeguard WP Adhesive is a two-component, cementitious binder-based mortar with fine-grained selected aggregates,
special admixtures and synthetic polymers in water dispersion, blended according to a formula developed in MAPEI’s
own research laboratories.
When the two components are mixed together, a blend with a plastic consistency is obtained. It may be applied by brush,
by roller or by spraying.

RECOMMENDATIONS
· Only apply Mapeguard WP Adhesive if the temperature is above +5°C.
· Do not add cement or aggregates to Mapeguard WP Adhesive.
· Protect from water for the first 24 hours after application at +23°C.
· During hot weather do not expose the product (liquid or powder) to direct sunlight before its application.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Preparation of the substrate
Mapeguard WP can be applied on the clean surface of Mapeguard WP 200, Mapeguard ST, Mapeguard IC, Mapeguard EC,
Mapeguard PC or Mapeguard UM 35.

Preparation of the mix

Pour component B (liquid) into a suitable clean container. Then slowly add component A (powder) while stirring with a
mechanical mixer.
The mixing ratio is: comp A : comp B = 1 : 0.9.
Carefully mix the blend for a few minutes, then remove any powder which has stuck to the sides and bottom of the
container. Keep mixing until completely blended. A mechanical mixer at low speed is recommended for this operation to
prevent entraining too much air into the mix. Avoid mixing the product manually.
In case of use for Mapeguard WP 200 and the relative special pieces, to make the product even more workable so that it
may be applied with a roller or brush, add water at a rate of up to 5% of the weight of the latex used.
Application of the mortar
Mapeguard WP Adhesive can be applied by brush, roller or trowel (no. 3).
Once the adhesive has been applied, the overlaps of Mapeguard WP 200 layers, the joints between adjacent sheets of
Mapeguard UM 35 sealed with Mapeband Easy and the overlaps of the relative special pieces (Mapeguard ST, Mapeguard
IC, Mapeguard EC or Mapeguard PC, Drain Vertical/ Drain Lateral) must be assembled as quickly as possible by fully
embedding them in the adhesive and avoiding air pockets. It is recommended to press the sealing band into place by
applying pressure with the smooth side of the notched trowel being careful not to damage the waterproofing products.
As an alternative, a suitable pressure roller may be used. The drying and installation time is shorter at higher temperatures
and longer at lower temperatures. The ambient temperature for the installation may not be lower than +5°C until the final
curing.
When installing LVT, use Mapeguard WP Adhesive to bond Mapeguard WP 200 to the substrate, and refer to the Shower
System 4 LVT¹ System Data Sheet.

Cleaning
Tools and containers should be cleaned with plenty of water while Mapeguard WP Adhesive is still fresh. Once dried,
cleaning can be carried out only mechanically.

CONSUMPTION
Mapeguard WP System:
· overlaps of Mapeguard WP 200 (5 cm overlap between sheets), Mapeguard WP Adhesive consumption of around 100
g/m;
