DID YOU KNOW?
Although AI is stirring up more conversations and concerns everywhere lately, its
emergence dates back to the 1940s, with its foundation in the concept of neural
networks.
I just completed the Artificial Intelligence Career Essentials (AiCE) program by ALX
Africa, and it was a good one. The program has provided me with a comprehensive
understanding of AI concepts and the practical skills to effectively apply AI tools in
my day-to-day work and career path.
So this carousel covers basic take homes from my AiCE journey across the weeks
of learning, enjoy;)
Thank you to Fred Swaniker, we see the digital movement across Africa, and to

What is AI?
Artificial Intelligence refers to the simulation of human intelligence in
machines programmed to think like humans and mimic their actions.
How does AI work?
AI works by combining large amounts of data, fast iterative processes,
and intelligent algorithms.
Week 1: Getting Smart About AI
In week one of the Artificial Intelligence Essentials (AiCE) program by ALX Africa, I
dived into the fascinating world of AI. I learned what AI really is, how it works, and the
process of training these smart systems. We explored the underlying technology behind
AI, focusing on powerful tools like ChatGPT and Gemini, while also examining their
various applications and limitations. An essential part of this week was mastering the art
of prompting—crafting specific inputs to guide AI responses accurately. Additionally, I
had the opportunity to interact with several large language models (LLMs) and
Generative AI tools, gaining practical experience that will be invaluable as I continue my
journey.
We all just need to be creative in our usage and it will in turn provide more creative
results for us. This is evident in the everyday ChatGPT most of us utilize, different
persons will get different results using with the same tool. The power of prompting.
Week 2: Improving Your Persona
Will AI Take Your Job?
AI is transforming the workplace in exciting ways. It's not just about taking over
tasks, it’s about creating new possibilities and enhancing the roles we play at work.
AI isn’t just about replacing human effort but expanding and elevating it, enabling us
to achieve more and grow in our careers.
I was also able to elevate my digital persona with the right AI tools, talmbout my
social media pages, my resume, CV, cover letters, interview preps, etc. One
takeaway while I was doing this was that your personal brand is the intersection of
the expression you’d like to make and the impression you’re actually making.
And to get the best possible impression, focus on these key areas, accuracy,
completeness, and consistency.
Week 3: Becoming More Creative At Work
As AI tools tend to take over more routine tasks, our ability to think creatively
becomes crucial. AI is great for jobs that involve sorting data or following rules, but it
can’t come up with new ideas or solve problems that aren’t clearly defined. This is
where creativity becomes essential.
Interestingly, I explored various generative AI tools to create my own epic content
and improve the clarity and persuasiveness of my writings and presentations.
Week 4: Becoming More Creative At Work
Learned how AI assistants can be integrated into one’s daily workflow to optimize
productivity.
AI-Powered Decision Making: AI tools to uncover patterns in data, create compelling
data stories, and make strategic decisions based on data insights.
Week 5: Turbo-Charging Your Business as an Entrepreneur
Take your business to the next level by collaborating with AI to enhance your brand
strategy and visibility.
Biases
Explore how biases in AI training data can lead to discriminatory outcomes and broader societal
impacts. Learn strategies to identify and mitigate these biases for the future.
Bias in AI systems refers to the systematic errors, prejudices, or stereotypes that can lead to unfair,
discriminatory, or inaccurate outcomes. These biases can come from different sources, like the data
used to train the AI models, the algorithms themselves, and the decisions made by the AI
developers.
Biased AI can worsen existing inequalities and create barriers to equal opportunities and access to
resources. For instance, studies have shown that AI-driven credit scoring systems may unfairly
disadvantage minority groups, making it harder for them to get loans or credit approvals.
By staying informed and critical, you can navigate AI bias and make more equitable decisions. By
using these tools to create more diverse perspectives, characters, and stories, we have the power to
create more diverse training data for future AI.
Week 6: A Wrap
Provision of other resources to continue your AI exploration, including tool lists and
other free AI courses.
Conclusion
By understanding and utilising AI and technology in general you are not just keeping
up with the digital age, you are staying ahead of it, ensuring that you are always at
the forefront of your career opportunities.
