Describe the operation of the circuit.
This circuit both start buttons to be pressed to energize the control relay CR-1. This setup provides
a form of safety interlock that requires two actions to activate the load controlled by the relay.
D. Parllel and series normally closed control
1. Construct the three wire manual Start/Stop motor control circuit and verify its correct operation.
2. Explain how the circuit operates, including the purpose of the device between connection points 50 and 49.
L1 and L2 represents power lines. When the start button is pressed, the circuit closes and send power to M-1
through the overload relay.
The overload relay protects the motor from damage due to excessive current. The circuit operates by briefly
pressing the start button to energize the motor contactor coil. Pressing the stop button breaks the circuit and
stops the motor. 2 wires carry power and the other 2 makes up the control circuit.
The purpose of the device between points 50 and 49 is to protect the motor from excessive current draw.
F. Proficiency Checkpoint
1. Complete the multiple location manual Start/Stop motor control circuit diagram. Label all connection points.
2. Verify the control circuit's proper operation.
3. Explain how the circuit operates.
This is a three-wire control circuit for starting and stopping a motor from multiple locations. When a start button
(Start 1 or Start 2) is pressed, the circuit is energized, and the motor starts. The contacts M-1 or M-2 close,
keeping the circuit energized even after the start button is released. Pressing any stop button (Stop 1 or Stop
2) breaks the circuit, de-energizing the motor and opening the maintaining contacts. The overload contact (OL)
protects against excessive current. If the motor draws too much current, the overload contact opens, stopping
the motor.
