Working of Circuit :-
A 9V power supply circuit is designed to provide a stable and regulated 9 volts DC (Direct
Current) output voltage from an input source, typically from an AC (Alternating Current)
mains power source or a DC power source such as a battery or an adapter. Here's a basic
overview of how such a circuit might work:
1. Transformer: If the input is from an AC mains source, the first component
in the circuit is usually a transformer. The transformer steps down the high
voltage AC from the mains to a lower voltage AC suitable for further processing.
For a 9V output, the transformer typically steps down 110V or 220V AC to
around 9-12V AC.
2. Rectifier: The AC output from the transformer is then fed into a rectifier
circuit. The rectifier converts the AC voltage into pulsating DC voltage. A
common rectifier used for this purpose is a bridge rectifier, which converts AC
to DC by using a configuration of diodes.
3. Filter circuit capacitor: The output from the rectifier is pulsating DC,
which means it has ripples. A large capacitor is connected across the output of
the rectifier to smooth out these ripples and produce a relatively stable DC
voltage. This capacitor charges up during the peaks of the rectified waveform
and discharges during the troughs, effectively reducing the ripple.
4. Voltage Regulator IC: The smoothed DC voltage is then fed into a voltage
regulator circuit. The voltage regulator ensures that the output voltage remains
stable even if there are fluctuations in the input voltage or load variations. For a
9V output, a common regulator used is the 7809 IC, which is a positive voltage
regulator capable of providing a fixed 9V output.
Further filtering may be applied at the output stage to ensure that the output
voltage is clean and free from noise. This can involve additional capacitors and
sometimes inductors.
Finally, the regulated 9V output is made available for connecting to the load.
The load could be any electronic device requiring a 9V power source, such as
microcontrollers, sensors, or small electronic circuits.
