1.0 TITLE
Guidelines for controlling the locomotive during wheel slip in microprocessor
controlled Diesel Electric locomotive (ALCo - fitted with MBCS of Medha (MEP660),
Siemens (KM DIREKTI SIMCOIVTROL) and GETS (Bright starTMSirius) and EMD
locos - fitted with EM2000, Medha MLC691, Siemens SllS3).
2.0 BACK GROUND
Railways have reported stalling cases while operating train hauled by MBCS loco.
3.0 OBJECT
To instruct the loco operator for controlling the train during wheel slip.
4.0 DETAILS OF STUDYlEXPERllVlENTATlON DONE
u
Study reveals that in most of the cases, trains have stalled due to wheel slip while
negotiating gradient in drizzling weather. Further fault data analysis shows that
drivers have a tendency to notch down at the time of wheel slip as followed in
conventional 'El type locos. However, this is not necessary in MBCS locos where
MBCS automatically reduces power and takes care of the wheel slip.
4.0 APPLICABLE TO CLASS OF LOCOMOTIVES
Applicable to MBCS locomotives (ALCo - fitted with MEP660, KM DIREKTI
SIMCONTROL and Bright starTMSirius and ENID locos - fitted with EM2000, Medha
MLC691, Siemens SllS3).
