PREFACE

The graduation project is a summary of the undergraduate university study trip, and it

reflects the student's ability to put forward scientific ideas and issues based on evidence and

proofs to prove what he reached in his graduation project. Therefore, the student's interest in

writing his graduation project report should not be underestimated because it reflects the

student's personality and scientific ability. Hence, for the purpose of making the graduation

projects reports of the electrical engineering department’s students to appear in an appropriate

and a unified manner, making it easier for the reader to benefit from, the Department of

Electrical Engineering at the University of Kufa has prepared this booklet as an important

guide, for all students of the final stage, that must be followed and adhered to.

This handbook, which is prepared based on different international universities styles, is a main

guide and reference for writing undergraduate projects’ reports. It collects all details and

requirements of an undergraduate project. We hope this handbook could help the students in

learning how to write the project report to fulfill the undergraduate project’s requirements of

Electrical Engineering Department – University of Kufa.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

 Background

This chapter explains the general requirements of the bachelor project preparation that
was approved by Electrical Engineering Department / University of Kufa. All undergraduate
students must read this handbook thoroughly before intending to write their projects, referring
to this handbook step by step in their bachelor projects’ preparations, and follow the approved
formatting and the instructions found here.

 Language

One of the most important issues in writing any project report or thesis is the quality and
readability of the language, because that eases understanding what the author means and gives
proper image of the information inside the project or thesis. Therefore, the project must be
written using a simple and clear English language. Both British and American dialects of the
English language are approved by Electrical Engineering Department.

 Project Title
The title of project must not be more than 25 words. It should be put above the middle of
the project's report cover. It is preferred to avoid using abbreviations in the project title page
unless necessary and strictly after the supervisor approval. The font style of project title is
(Uppercase, Centered, Bold, and 20-point font).

 The Fonts and Pages Styles of Project Report

The Project report should be printed on high-quality printers. Poor quality papers or
unclear figures and images will be rejected. The page layout should be portrait layout except
for large figures or tables which is not suitable for portrait layout, these can be presented in the
landscape layout based on directions of the supervisor.

3
- The number of project report pages including figures, tables, references and appendices
should be between 40-80 pages.
- Only high quality papers are accepted with A4 (210mm x 297mm) size. Extra blank
sheets should be added for the front and back of the project report.
- All project report pages should be written using the same font style with different font
size as the following: -
 “Times New Roman” and “Arial” are the only accepted fonts to use in the report,
apart from programming code, which must be in “Lucida Sans Typewriter”.
 Text and subtitles must be using 12-point font size in normal style and without
using italic style (excluding other languages or scientific names).
 Headings must be using bold 14-point font size.
 Figures and tables captions should be using bold 12-point font size in normal
style.
- The report page margins should be 1 inch for all sides.
- The project report spacing must be 1.5 line. Single line spacing should be used for
references, footnotes, between headings and sub-headings, appendices, multi-line
captions and programming code.
- The pagination of the report should include all pages. Page numbers must be
appearing at right bottom margins without any additives such as brackets.
- All report pages must be printed on single side.
- Page numbering before Chapter 1 should use the style as (i, ii, iii …. etc), then use
style (1, 2, 3, …..etc) from chapter one onward.
- The pagination of title page and chapters’ beginning pages should be hidden.

 Cover Page

The front cover page should include (name of university, department and faculty logo,
student name, degree, supervisor name and date of submission).

 Submission

Before submitting the project report, it is necessary to ensure all requirements and
formatting has been carefully done based on this handbook. The signature of the supervisor is

4
compulsory to accept submission of project report. The following are the procedure to submit
a project to the projects manager: -

1. Fill the project submission form (PF3) as in appendix, signed by the supervisor, and
submit it with the project.

2. Submit two copies of the project report to the projects manager.

3. If the project is accepted with corrections, the adapted project should be submitted
within 7-15 days or, otherwise, based on the report of the examiners committee, as
following: -

- Two hard-copies of the project report.

- One soft-copy of the project report on CD.

- The students are also required to submit a hard-copy of the project report to their
supervisor.

5

ABSTRACT

The importance of abstract comes from the fact that it provides the first impression a
person gets of the project. Hence, the abstract should include a brief of the project that is being
explained to the reader. A good abstract begins with an introduction about the subject, followed
by the problem statements and a concise explanation of the problem which you need to solve
or deal with. A brief summary of methodology and achievements should also be included in
the abstract.

The abstract should not include abbreviations without defining them by full term at first use,
except for well-defined obvious abbreviations when necessary, based on directions of the
supervisor. No references should be used in the abstract. The abstract should not be less than
180 words and should not exceed 450 words.

8
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

In this section, students are free to write any beautiful words to express
acknowledgements and appreciation for whom person helped them through their study or any
other persons or institutions they like to thank them.

chapter”, you should present any gap of knowledge you are dealing with and the problem
statement. The motivations and objectives should also be presented. Additionally, the scope of
work and project structure should be covered in the introduction.

1.2 Problem Statements

For each research, there should be an existing problem which the project aims to present
and solve. In this section, problem statements should be presented, showing any gap of
knowledge that the project would potentially be covering. A brief of literature review should
be introduced here presenting the current related works with achievements and limitations.

1.3 Motivations

State the motivations behind choosing this subject, such as the significance of the study
or topic novelty…etc.

1.4 Objectives

What is the achievements that you intend to obtain in your project and what is the results
that should be reached? Such as the following examples:

1- To investigate the existing channel coding techniques used in UFMC systems in order to
highlight the weakness points.

17
2- To design a novel ABC code with high error correction ability that differs from familiar
channel coding techniques that used an outer code with an inner code then appended by an
interleaver.

3- To evaluate the UFMC system's performance over multi-path fading channel by comparing
it with the conventional OFDM system for both BPSK and QPSK modulation schemes in terms
of BER performance, OOBE, and PAPR.

1.5 Scope of Study

State the scope of your work here.

1.6 Project Organization

This project comprises four chapters, starting from the introduction in Chapter 1
explaining the background of UFMC systems with presentation of the problem statements,
