Origins
Jade stone is regarded as a premier
artistic medium in China. It has been alive
for many centuries until today. It is an
object of fascination and desire, often
referred to “mysterious” And it is its
uniqueness which makes it become part
of the culture.
Charcteristics
Jade is a gemstone believed to have several
benefits, including increasing fortune,
grounding, and enhancing maturity in
relationships. These are also the reasons why
people from long ago, even the emperors, to
now like jade stone.
Process
Water is squeezed out of the rock under the high
pressures deep inside Earth. The escaping water rises
along the cracks in the rocks. The water is full of dissolved
minerals. As it flows through the cracks, it leaves jade
behind, causing the cracks to get clogged.
Literally, a jade stone form in deep earth and is waiting for
people to discover it.

This is one of the
oldest jade stone in
the world, which
remains a lot of
information of
history to be
discovered by
archaeologist.
Cultural values
Firstly, the uniqueness of the long history of
jade stone can’t be deny through the evidence
of photos and exhibition and the people.
Secondly, it has its own economics effect. Not long
before, the government has held a Jade Stone
Market in Yau Ma Tei, which attracts a lot of
people who loves jade stones so much to come.
Although it is not a typical street market, but it is
surely a great place for locals and tourists to
explore!
Last but not least, jade stones are one of
the things that tourists would like to see in
Hong Kong. Hong Kong has been well known
for its diverse kinds of jade which let
different kinds of people in different parts
of world would like to admire it and buy it
for fortune!
CONCLUSIONS
Intangible cultural heritage is passed through
generations. It unite the communities and reflect the
unique culture of a place. To protect jade stones
knowledge, we can participate in different events
about jade, and to learn about their knowledge. The
more people explore about jade stone, the easier we
can pass it through our next generation!
