Micro-Project Report
Title of Micro-Project:- BLINKING LED USING 555 TIMER IC
1.0 Rationale
A Blinking LED circuit using a 555 timer IC can be easily designed by configuring the 555 in astable mode
where it continuously oscillates between high and low states, creating a blinking effect for the LED. Here's a
simple relational breakdown of how the components work
2.0 Aims/Benefits of the Micro-Project:-
The aim of a blinking LED circuit using a 555 timer IC is to design a simple electronic circuit that toggles an
LED on and off at regular intervals. The 555 timer IC is used in astable mode to generate a continuous
square wave output, which drives the LED to blink at a certain frequency.
Benefits:
1. Learning Basic Electronics: Building a blinking LED circuit introduces beginners to the concepts of
oscillators, timers, and basic components like resistors, capacitors, and LEDS.
2.Understanding the 555 Timer ICThis project helps users understand how the versatile 555 timer works in
astable mode, which is crucial for generating oscillations and timing signals.
3. Simple and Cost-Effective The components required are inexpensive and widely available, making
this a budget-friendly project.
3.0 Course Outcomes Achieved
1) Understand if the 555 timer ic
2) Circuit diagram
3) Practical implementation.
4.0 Literature Review:-
1) Overview of 555 Timer IC
2) Components and Circuit Design
3)Working principle
4) Application
5.0 Actual Methodology Followed
The 555 timer IC is a versatile integrated circuit used in various timing and pulse generation applications. To
create a blinking LED circuit using a 555 timer IC, we configure it in astable mode, where it generates a
continuous square wave. This output can turn an LED on and off, creating the blinking effect.
Pin 1 (Ground): Connect to the negative terminal of the power supply.
Pin 2 (Trigger) and Pin 6 (Threshold): These are connected together to form a feedback loop.
Pin 3 (Output): This will provide the signal to blink the LED. Connect the positive side of the LED to this
pin, and use a current-limiting resistor in series with the LED.
Pin 4 (Reset): Connect to the positive terminal of the power supply (Vcc) to avoid resetting the timer.
Pin 5 (Control Voltage): Bypass this pin to ground using a small capacitor (~10nF) for noise filtering. Pin 7
(Discharge): Connect to a resistor (R2) that is also connected to the junction between pins 2 and 6. Pin 8
(Vcc): Connect to the positive terminal of the power supply.

use resistors to limit current to protect the LED..
9.0 Applications of this Micro-Project:-
Blinking LED circuit can be used for any visual sign indication in any highways or it can be used in
advertisement hoarding also.L.ED blinking circuit can be used in signaling purpose (It can be used as signal
for help, if you are in danger)LED blinking circuit can be used as flashing beacon.LED blinking circuit can
be used as vehicle indicator when it is broke down in the middle of the road. It can be used in operation
theaters or offices as an indication that you are engaged in work. There are lots of applications with these
two circuits.
