Topic No.7 : The K to 12 Curriculum: The Importance of School Planning and Policy Making for Curricular Reforms
Professional development gives them an opportunity to step out of their
routine — they get to be the student instead of the teacher. This keeps educators engaged because they feel like they are receiving the professional help they need to be better teachers.K to 12 program has already been implemented, but even though this curriculum has already been implemented, it is still a major issue in the country. It has been said that it is one of the most drastic and controversial programs of the Aquino administration. Anyway, since this program has already been implemented we have nothing to do with this but respect, and of course contribute a major help for the success of its goal and objectives. A school plan for professional development is incredibly important as it helps ensure that educators are equipped with the knowledge and skills to effectively support student to growth and success. Professional development can include a variety of topics such as instructional strategies, technology integration, social- emotional learning, and more. By developing a comprehensive plan for professional development, schools can help teachers stay up- to – date with the latest research and best practices in education, which can lead to improved student outcomes. School planning and policy making is very important in any curricular reforms in order to make sure that the purpose of the implementation of this program will be realized. Let’s imagine a newly reformed curriculum without planning, what will happen? There will be a lot of misinterpretation, a lot of mistakes upon its implementation. The teachers who do not know on what to do with this new curriculum will be totally empty, they won’t have any idea on what they will do with regards to this. So it’s maybe they will just stick to the old curriculum or make their own plans with regards to the new curriculum without knowing whether their plans are correct or wrong. With regards to the policy making, it is also important to plan this ahead of time so that the teachers and the learners will all be guided with the new curriculum and its policies. But before the school’s planning, the people of high authority must have the plan first and must look at a lot of considerations first before implementing a certain program. For example, the K to 12 curriculum was just implemented with the thought that other countries became successful with its implementation. The government thought that it will also be successful in our country, without even thinking that even before the implementation of this curriculum, there is already a dearth of textbooks, tables, chairs, toilets, teacher’s guide, etc. how much more with this new wherein they need to provide new reading materials, learner’s materials, curriculum guide, and teacher’s guide? I think Philippines is not ready yet for this. It is just adding problem to the system. Until now, we do not have enough materials in the classroom, and the CG, TG and LM does not correspond with each other. Teachers need to do extra research for the lesson, but how about us who are assigned in far flung areas? We do not have internet, we do not have signal, and we do not have enough books or research materials. It is very difficult. Another issue is the implementation of MTBMLE, it demands more time to translate books into different dialects knowing that Tagalog is not the only dialect that Filipino people speak. It requires more time to search. It would have been better if the planning and policy making were already done even before the implementation of the new curriculum. They must have considered a lot of things including the situation of the schools in the provinces. They were just looking at the side of the people in the urban areas. Henceforth, planning and policy making is the main menu in every reformation made. The financial plan is an essential component of managing a school effectively. A well-prepared financial plan helps schools to allocate resources in the most efficient and effective way possible. It helps schools to make informed decisions about staffing, educational programs, and investments in infrastructure, technology, and other areas. A financial plan can help schools to forecast their income and expenses, identify potential risks and opportunities, and develop strategies to manage them. It can also help schools to ensure that they are meeting their financial obligations, such as paying salaries on time and maintaining financial reserves. Preparing a financial plan for managing a school can involve several steps: 1. Identify funding sources: Determine the available funding sources for the school, such as government funding, tuition fees, donations, and grants. 2. Develop a budget; Create a budget that includes all of the school’s operating expenses, including salaries, rent, utilities, equipment, supplies, and other costs. Be sure to allocate funds for unexpected expenses and savings. 3. Set financial goals: Set financial goals for the school, such as increasing revenue or reducing expenses. Create strategies to achieve these goals, such as launching new programs or reducing unnecessary expenses. 4. Monitor and evaluate: Monitor the school’s financial performance regularly and evaluate the effectiveness of the financial plan. Make adjustments as necessary to ensure that the school is meeting its financial goals and operating efficiently. 5. Seek professional advice: It can be helpful to seek the advice of accounting professionals or financial advisors to ensure that the financial plan is comprehensive and effective. By following these steps, schools can create a financial plan that helps them manage their finances effectively and ensures their long-term sustainability. Physical Plan is very important for school development because the primary function of educational facilities is to provide the proper school environment that is most conducive to effective teaching and learning, Functional and effective educational facilities are developed, operated and managed on the basis of a comprehensive plan of action of the school, prepared by all stakeholders in education in the community.
