SUNDAY ACTIVITIES
Sunday school as a department conducts lessons for children. Every Sunday, we have two
sessions. The first starts 08:00hrs to 10:00hrs and the second session starts at 10:00hrs to
11:30hrs. For both sessions we have five teachers and one supervisor is assigned.
TEACHER’S RETREAT
This is an annual event for all the PAOG Sunday school teachers in Zambia. It is usually held in
February at Mungule’s Hebron Centre in Lusaka. Maranatha teachers attended the retreat.
KIDS RALLY
This was held in June at Glad Tidings Church in Kalulushi. Sixty children and 5 teachers
attended.
KIDS CAMP
This is another event on the Sunday school calendar. It is usually held in August. Last year camp
started on 20th to 24th August, 2023 at Trans Africa University here in Kitwe. Maranatha was
represented by 52 children and 7 teachers.
GRADE 6 AND 7 OUTING
This year’s outing was held on 19th November, 2023 at elder Cliff Bwalya’s place. It is always
organised by the teachers. Forty-eight children and 6 teachers were in attendance.
CHALLENGES
1. One of the major challenges is the lack of male teachers. Out of a total of 25 teachers, there is
only one male teacher.
MARANATHA CHURCH
PENTECOSTAL ASSEMBLIES OF GOD (Z)
2. There are inadequate classrooms for Sunday school children particularly during the 08:00hrs
service. The attendance ranges between 140 and 180 children.
3. Overlapping of services still remains one of the major problems Sunday school is facing, the
few teachers who are taking up the classes are the same ones who have to keep an eye on the
other children who are waiting to be picked by their parents or church buses.
4. The department is in dire need of more recreation tools such as balls, toys, etc.
5.On joint services
Our suggestion is when there is such kind of a service. We should let children utilize classroom 1
for their various activities. Watching cartoons on the screen, having toys around them including
snacks.
We are appealing for the TV screen to be restored back to the main church. To be used for the
purpose it was intended for in Sunday school.
WAY FORWARD
- As a department, we are humbly asking our able administration to give us more material
support during workshops, rallies and camps.
- We are appealing for more teachers to join the department
We thank the Church for the continued support to the Sunday School Department.
