The vast global Amazon marketplace can provide a great ecommerce business for online sellers when
tackled the right way. Despite the amount of competition, Amazon’s vast number of regular shoppers
and Amazon’s professional seller platform makes it a great platform to quickly set up and grow a
successful ecommerce business. Increasing your Amazon sales entails keeping up with your competi-
tors, enhancing your listings and working out what works for the optimal sale of your products.

To optimise your Amazon listing for the best result think about these five areas from the Buyers point of
view before creating your product listing:

Don't just name product characteristics in your

listing but list the product advantages — what
will the product do for the buyer.

To help reduce your learning curve, here are

our top tips to boost your chances of success as
an Amazon seller and increase your Amazon
product sales. W W W . M A R G I N B U S I N E S S . C O M
#1 – Pricing Competitively
The biggest differentiator between Amazon sellers is price. There is stiff price
competition on Amazon but it doesn’t have to be an obstacle to profitability.
Use the price competition to help you determine which products are worth
your while promoting in the marketplace and only sell items that have
sufficient margin to offer you a reasonable rate of return for your efforts while
still being competitively priced. Offering a significant discount from time to
time or running a daily deal can get you enough brand exposure and attract
repeat buyers. Don’t forget to factor in your inventory, order fulfilment and
overhead expenses.

#2 – Automating Your Listings

Spending your time continuously listing products is time-consuming and
may be a waste of time that you could be better spending on marketing,
customer engagement and other key business strategies. Automating your
Amazon listings can help you simplify the whole process which saves you
time and money. Use an Amazon listing tool to help you with listing products
in bulk.

#3 – Using the Pro Merchant Subscription

If you plan on listing a lot of items, Amazon’s Pro Merchant subscription can
save you money and give you additional tools to make your selling a lot
easier. It costs individual sellers $0.99 per transaction but with Pro Merchant,
you don’t have a per-item fee. Instead you have a $39.99 per month charge to
list as many items as you want on the Amazon marketplace. So if you have
100 transactions per month you would only pay an average of $0.40 each. If
you have 1,000 transactions per month your charge goes down to only $0.04
per transaction.

With Amazon Pro Merchant you also get more selling options, being able to
upload in bulk, enhanced reporting and the ability to list new and unique
items to the marketplace.
#4 – Using Fulfilment By Amazon
Most top sellers on Amazon use the FBA option and increasing your sales
volume is easy with Fulfilment By Amazon (FBA). Essentially you send your
inventory to Amazon and they fulfil your orders. When one of your items sells,
Amazon fulfils the order, packages and ships it to your customer. You pay for
storage of your items and shipping costs which are often discounted. You can
also use FBA to take care of order fulfilment for the products you sell through
other sales channels. To ensure maximum profitability, make sure you’re
selling the best products for FBA.

#5 – Winning the Buy Box

Having the Buy Box requires that you meet certain performance criteria and
that Amazon chooses you from the pool of sellers who offer the same item.
The criteria include availability, price, your overall performance as a seller (you
have to be at least a Featured Merchant) and shipping options.

This coveted Amazon Buy Box is the box on the right side of the product
detail page where customers can click to add the item to their shopping cart.
The Buy Box is highly coveted because it significantly improves your chances
of selling any item so the best way to increase sales is to win the buy box.

#6 – Improving Your SEO

Amazon offers a Keyword Tool to help optimize your listing titles. Amazon
looks at the keywords in your product titles to rank listings so you need to
include as many keywords as you can in the 200-character title. This helps
buyers to find your products amongst the vast number of listings and
products on Amazon.

Here are 5 tips to improve your SEO:

1- Use your own personal search experience

Think about your online searches you’re shopping on the Internet. What
types of keywords do you use? What comes to mind when you think about
the product you’re describing? Make a note of all the keywords you can think
of that relate to your product.

Take a look at Facebook groups or Reddit threads to see what people are
saying about your product or how they describe it. Customers sometimes use
brand names more often than the generic name of a product like Kleenex
rather than ‘facial tissue’.

2 – Look at your competitors’ products

Check what words other sellers are using for the same for similar products
that you’re selling. You may find a few keywords that you hadn’t even
thought of. A quick glance through your competitors’ product titles can
provide you with synonymous keywords you’ve forgotten (for example,
authentic, genuine, real, 100%, pure).

3 – Use Amazon autocomplete

The Amazon platform feature - autocomplete is a tool for finding keywords
too. If you type just a few characters in the Amazon search box, you’re auto-
matically given product suggestions. Amazon then displays the terms that
are most searched for, making autocomplete a useful and legitimate place to
find keywords.

4 – Use the “frequently bought together” section to find complementary

keywords
Complementary products are items that shoppers often buy together. Take a
look at the “frequently bought together” section and it will show you various
products that are commonly purchased along with the original item. For
example - on a product page for a coffee maker, you may find coffee cups,
coffee filters and storage racks in the frequently bought together section.
You can use this section’s product ideas to enhance your listing - specifically
the bullet points or product description section.

5 – Use keyword research tools

Once your Amazon product catalog has more than a few product lines start
using a keyword research tool to help optimize your Amazon product listings.
Sonar, Keyword Tool, and SellerApp are all free.
#7 – Getting & Sharing Feedback & Reviews
You cannot underestimate the value of customer reviews and positive
feedback in terms of growing your Amazon business. Nearly 90% of buyers
say that they trust online reviews as much as they trust personal
recommendations. Only about 10% of Amazon buyers leave feedback after
their purchase but every feedback is immensely important. To increase your
feedback volume, you can use a solution like Feedback Five. People buy the
product on Amazon that has the most positive reviews. Don’t be concerned
about a few not-so-great reviews as long as your overall rating is strong. A few
not-so-great reviews make your listing look real.

You can also create more marketing momentum by promoting your positive
reviews on all of your other channels and social media.

#8 – Advertising on Amazon
Advertising on Amazon is an effective method of increasing sales and getting
noticed. Give the sponsored products option a try. This option displays your
product below search results or on the product detail pages and is a great
method when you’re just starting out or are still fairly new to Amazon. There is
a pay-per-click charge for this option, so you’ll only pay when someone clicks
on your link. Amazon also gives you a deal when you use the sponsored
products service for the first time.

#9 – Marketing Outside of Amazon

It is highly recommended that you market outside of Amazon to bring pros-
pects to your listings and your Amazon store. There are a host of ways you
can drive traffic to your store including blogging and article writing on other
websites, social media posts, Pinterest posts and links on your own website.
You aren’t allowed to market people away from Amazon, but you can
promote links back to your Amazon store. ALWAYS REMEMBER USE
AMAZON AS YOUR CHECKOUT POINT!
#10 – Knowing the Rules and Regulations
You really don’t want your Amazon business being suspended or completely shut down so make
sure that you completely understand and follow the many rules and regulations that Amazon
has put in place. By complying with their operating framework you’ll be on the right track to
grow your Amazon sales. Stay abreast of all regulations and changes by regularly checking in at
Amazon Seller Central.
