Creating a Student Marks Sheet with Charts in Excel

Objective: To create a student marks sheet in Excel and generate a chart to visually represent
the data.

Steps:

1. Open Excel:
o Start Microsoft Excel and open the previously saved
Student_Marks_Sheet.xlsx workbook or create a new workbook if necessary.
2. Enter the Data :
o Follow the same steps from the previous experiment to create the student
marks sheet with columns for Serial No., Student Name, Hindi, English, Math,
Science, Sanskrit, Total Marks, Percentage, and Result.
3. Create a Chart to Represent Marks:

Step 1: Select the Data for the Chart

o Select the marks for all students (the data range from Student Name to
Sanskrit marks):
 Highlight the cells from B6

(Student Name and marks for all subjects).

Step 2: Insert a Chart

o Go to the Insert tab on the Ribbon.

o In the Charts group, choose Recommended Charts, or directly select
Column Chart or Bar Chart as they are most suitable for showing
comparisons.
 Select Clustered Column to display each student's marks in a
clustered form for all subjects.

Step 3: Customize the Chart

o After inserting the chart, you can customize it:

 Add a Chart Title: Double-click on the chart title and enter "Student
Marks in Subjects".
 Add Axis Titles:
 For the X-axis, label it as "Students".
 For the Y-axis, label it as "Marks".
 Apply a Legend to indicate which color represents which subject.

Step 4: Adjust the Chart Format

o You can adjust the colors, bar styles, or layout by selecting different chart
styles under the Chart Design tab.
o You can also resize the chart or reposition it within the worksheet.
4. Create a Pie Chart for Percentage :
o If you want to show a visual breakdown of each student’s percentage, you can
create a Pie Chart.
o Select the data range from B6

(Student Names) and I6

(Percentage column).

o Go to the Insert tab, choose Pie Chart, and select the style you prefer.
o Customize the chart by adding a title such as "Percentage Distribution" and
labels showing the percentage for each student.
5. Final Adjustments:
o You can create multiple charts if necessary (e.g., individual charts for each
subject).
o Use the Chart Design tab to further format the chart's appearance, adding data
labels or changing the chart style.
6. Save the Workbook:
o Save the updated Excel file as "Student_Marks_Sheet_with_Charts.xlsx".
