Vision:
Enhance supply of healthy fish and fish
products to people
Mission:
Proper and hygienic landing of fish harvested
from Marine waters, Kaptai Lake and Haor
areas.
Reduce post-harvest loss due to physical stress,
damage or improper handling of fish.
To control/direct fish marketing in proper way.

Achievements
With FAO, 1966-72: Full survey and research in Bay of Bengal
Stock assessment, discovered 4 fishing grounds:
1. South patches
2. Elephant point
3. Swatch of no ground
4. East of Swatch of no ground
Established the only fish port in 1970 (construction, storage, workshop)
In 1972 gift from Russia: 10 trawlers commercial harvest from BOB
Mechanization of fishing crafts and established fishermen groups: 722 mechanized boat, 1300
engines and training
Preservation and marketing to remote areas Dhaka, Khulna
Established fish processing industry in Chattogram, Dhaka and Mongla
Established 3 lylon net factory (instead of cotton thread)
Ice factory near fishing grounds
Marine fisheries academy in 1973 (helped Russia)
