Packing List for the Planets/Moons

To show your understanding of one of our solar system’s planets, create a packing list of the essential items someone would need
to survive if he or she were to visit that planet. For each item, explain how it will help ensure survival using specific information
about the planet. For example, if someone traveled to Mercury, he or she would need a space suit that could withstand
temperatures ranging from –170°C at night to 430°C during the day.

The places you will research are assigned below and include:
Mercury, Venus, Earth’s Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto (It is technically a dwarf planet).

Mrs. Duhala has assigned you two planets on Schoology (posted in the Packing for Planets Turn In)

Packing List for the Planets/Moons: be sure to pack the following items:

1. What you will need to wear because of atmosphere and temperature. Include atmospheric composition (what gasses are in
the air) and day and night temperature.
2. Protective equipment. What are the hazards of your planet? Example: Meteor detector. Include at least 3.
3. Equipment to help you move around the planet. Include what its surface is like (sold, liquid, gas) and how big it is.
4. Explanation for length of day and year on your planet compared to earth’s day and year. A day is how long it takes to turn
one complete turn on it axis. A year is how long it takes to complete a full orbit around the sun. How will you sleep or stay
awake if there are shorter or longer days?
5. Include how long it will take you to get to the planet and how long it will take you to return from the planet. These are not
always the same amount of time. What 10 items will you bring to pass the time on the trip?
6. Pictures of your planet or moon
7. APA OR MLA citations, at least two
You will be scored according to the following rubric:
