1.0 General
The interior of an UPS cubical, when it is installed has hazardous AC & DC voltages on exposed
terminals and printed circuit boards, even when all the switches are OFF.
UPS must be protected against over - voltages deriving from the feeding mains. The device was
developed in accordance with the product normative EN 50091-2, which relates to the
IEC 1000-4-5. Over - voltages must be planned for in the power supply system, including those
caused by lightning strikes as well as those produced internally as the result of switching inductive
or capacitive loads, such as power transformers or capacitor banks or as the result of short - circuit
shut-downs. With all supplies isolated the battery is still live and appropriate precaution must be
taken.
If UPS / Inverter remains unused for a long period, refreshing of the batteries
for 24 hour is advised by recharging them. Otherwise, the battery may get damaged.
Do not touch the casualty with your bare hands until he is clear of any conductor.
Send immediately for trained qualified help.
8 Do not touch printed circuit boards. High voltages exist, there is hazard of electric shock.
8 Never work alone, learn first aid, especially cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), for electrical
accident victims. Unless power is removed from the equipment, person should never work
alone. Another person should be standing by to assist him. Extra care required when working
on battery / Battery bank.
8 Turn off power before working on electric or electronic circuit, except when absolutely
necessary.
8 Consider all wire and terminals to be live until proven otherwise by a safe test method.
8 Never block or insert any object in to the ventilation holes or other openings.
8 Turn the UPS / Inverter off and isolate the UPS / Inverter before cleaning. Use only a soft cloth,
never use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Keep the front and rear vents free of dust accumulation
that could restrict airflow, required for cooling. This equipment contains several circuits that are
energized with high voltage. Only test equipment designated for troubleshooting should be
used. This is particularly to be observed for using oscilloscopes.
Always check voltages with an AC & DC voltmeter to ensure safety before making contact or
using tools. Even the power is turned off, dangerously high potentials may exist at the capacitor
banks.
Only qualified service personnel should perform maintenance on the UPS / Inverter system. When
performing maintenance with any part of the equipment under power, service personnel and test
equipment should be standing on rubber mats. The service personnel should wear insulating shoes
for isolation from direct contact with the floor (Earth ground).
8 Do not adjust connections etc., while charging or in the first hour after charging.
8 Keep the battery location well ventilated to prevent buildup of the oxygen and hydrogen gases
and do not cover the battery during charging.
As per battery manufacturers recommendation , during the storage interval (i.e. between date of
shipment and date of installation) , a freshening charge should be given once in every six months.
Storage at elevated temperatures will result in accelerated rates of self discharges.
One full charge-discharge cycle shall be conducted minimum once in a year if frequency of mains input
supply failure is very low.
8 Consider terminals of capacitor, connected bus bars and cables and other devices which are
connected with them, as energized voltage may present.
2. Minimum four persons are required for unloading and handling the equipment.
Ensure proper unloading facility exists with transporter / local sub-contractor.
3. Use a fork lift or other material handling device to move the equipment as close as
possible to the final installation on site.
4. Ensure that the equipment is kept upright as per the arrow mark indication on its packing.
During unloading, ensure that the unit is not tilted beyond 45 degree angle with the
ground surface, to prevent internal damages.
B) Storage
1. If equipment remains unused for a long period, replace silica gel bags after each six
months.
3. A freshening charge should be given once in every six months. Storage at elevated
temperatures will result in accelerated rates of self - discharge.
C) Unpacking
1. The UPS is mounted on a wooden base palette and fixed onto the same. The unit is
wrapped in polythene sheets and enclosed in the suitable enclosure box.
2. Keep box on the floor in such a way that THE ARROW ON THE BOX SHOULD POINT
VERTICALLY UPWARDS.
3. Remove battens from all sides if your unit is packed in wooden container EXCEPT from
BOTTOM SIDE. The unit is fixed with bolts at four corners by bolts size 12 X 130 mm to
the wooden base, remove these bolts & then bottom battens.
4. If unit is with corrugated packing, then simply remove external box and then the
plastic cover and now the unit is ready for external wiring and operation.
5. The equipment Serial No. plate should be checked to ensure that Serial No. is as
mentioned on the Invoice.
6. Refer the set no. before installation. Even the logic of set 1 & set 2 is similar and
installation like UPS1 from set 1 & UPS 2 from set 2 may cause functional error due to
setting tolerance. Hence it is recommended to install the system as per defined set as
tested in factory.
Applicability : All system with more then one panels.
E) Installation Procedure
(i) Floor Loading
The route and foundation to the installation site must be capable of supporting the
weight of the equipment.
2. Avoid using equipment in locations with high humidity, corrosive gasses and dust.
kVA wise cable cross sections for Input, battery, output & Bypass are mentioned in cable
details. Cable dimensions are purely indicative. They are applicable only in the following
cases
0
1 Copper wire with PVC insulation (max. operating temperature = 70 C, multi - core - to
2 2
35mm , single - core - greater than 35mm )

System Description
Scope
This section describes an On line, Three phase input, Single phase output or Three phase input,
Three phase output, IGBT based UPS / Inverter. The UPS / Inverter shall provide high quality
conditioned AC power to the equipment loads. The UPS / Inverter shall automatically provide
continuity of electrical power, in case of failure of mains (AC utility source) within the defined limits.
The system consists of a solid state Converter with Battery Charger, PWM Inverter, Automatic static
bypass transfer circuit, and integral maintenance bypass circuit.
System Description
The UPS / Inverter consists of following major components :
n Rectifier & IGBT based charger / PWM Rectifier (IGBT as switching device)
Normal Operation
Inverter continuously supplies stable conditioned AC power to the critical load. The rectifier cum
battery charger converts AC Input power to regulated DC power. This DC is in turn used for Inverter
input as well as for the charging of battery connected to it. With the inbuilt CVCC charger control
circuit, these batteries are always maintained in fully charged and optimum operational condition.
When the AC utility input voltage drops below the specified limits or in case of power failure, the
Inverter will continue to supply constant voltage to the equipment load utilising the battery as a
power source.
The bypass assistance handles the extra inrush current demand and there by relieve the Inverter,
in case of excess current demanded by the load.
System Description
In case of failure of UPS 1 / Inverter 1, load gets transferred to UPS 2 / Inverter 2 automatically via
a static switch. In case of failure of UPS 2 / Inverter 2 load gets transferred to bypass source. On
rectification of fault, load is automatically re-transferred to healthy UPS / Inverter.
Note
For above configuration, UPS 1 / Inverter 1 & UPS 2 / Inverter 2 identification & model no is marked
on front door.
System Description
The output of two such systems are paralleled to form a common AC Bus, which is connected to load.
Paralleling Control Circuit ensures equal load sharing between two UPS systems. In case of failure of
any one of the system, other system supplies power to load.
In case of failure of one UPS / Inverter, the entire load is transferred to the other one. Hence both the
UPS / Inverter should be able to provide 100% load individually.
In case of failure of both the systems (mains-fail & battery-low) the load is automatically transferred
to bypass source via static switch without any interruption.
On rectification of the fault or mains resumption, the load is retransferred. Both UPS / Inverter are
backed by either separate or common battery. Parallel redundant system with separate battery is
beneficial as compared to system with common battery considering the uninterrupted power that is
made available.
Note
For this configuration, instead of Model No. kVA rating is mentioned on front door &
UPS 1 / Inverter 1, UPS 2 / Inverter 2 identification is marked on front door.
Do's
1. Follow definite sequence of starting the system, mentioned in the Operating Instructions in this
manual. (Section 7)
2. If the system trips due to O/P Under voltage / Over voltage, Press the 'RESET' switch on front
panel, before restarting the system.
Dangerous voltage levels are present inside the system. Any servicing requiring removal of the
protection panel must be carried out by qualified engineer, certified by us.
If either the AC supply or the batteries are connected, do not remove the access cover unless
you have undergone a through out approved training course.
8 Turn off power to equipment before checking or replacing fuses. Locate and correct the
cause of a fuse blown or circuit breaker tripping before replacing of the fuse or resetting
the breaker.
Don'ts
2. Do not operate battery switch, if charger output voltage is absent or if Input supply is absent.
1. When the system trips, observe indications on the front fascia of the
UPS / Inverter
1. Input voltage
2. Output voltage
We recommends to carry out periodic maintenance of the UPS / Inverter system by authorised
service engineer. Following are the guide lines for the same.
Please ensure that the ventilation and cleanliness surrounding the UPS / Inverter.
Regularly check, the arrangements made for the same are in working condition.
0 0
We strictly recommend to keep Battery Room temperature at about 25 C (+/- 5 C ) ,
for the better life cycle of the Batteries.
