Course Objectives:

Overview

The End of Studies Research Project is a capstone module designed for master’s students in the
field of Applied Linguistics. This course offers students the opportunity to integrate and apply
their theoretical knowledge and research skills in a comprehensive, academically rigorous
project. The module serves as a culmination of the learning experiences acquired throughout the
Master's program for students to demonstrate their ability to conduct independent research and
contribute to the field of Applied Linguistics.

Objectives

1. Synthesize Knowledge: Consolidate theoretical and empirical knowledge gained


throughout the Master's program to address complex issues in applied linguistics.
2. Develop Research Skills: Enhance abilities in designing, conducting, and analyzing
applied linguistic research using both qualitative and quantitative methods.
3. Promote Original Contributions: Encourage the production of original research that
contributes to the field, potentially publishable in academic journals.
4. Cultivate Professional Presentation Skills: Develop skills for presenting research
findings effectively at academic conferences or seminars.
5. Foster Ethical Research Practices: Reinforce the importance of ethical considerations

Students are required to have completed all core and elective courses within the Applied
Linguistics Master’s curriculum, with a specific focus on research methodology modules.

Course Content

The project typically involves the following components:

1. Proposal Development: Crafting a detailed research proposal that outlines the research
question, literature review, methodology, expected outcomes, and timeline.
2. Research Execution: Conducting the research as per the approved proposal, including
data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
3. Thesis Writing: Compiling the research findings into a well-organized thesis that
adheres to academic standards and guidelines.
4. Oral Defense: Presenting the research to a panel of faculty members, defending the
methodology, findings, and conclusions, and responding to questions and critiques.
