professional.
The stronger
the sitting: a corner in café on Christmas eve
characters:
Mrs. X: the main character which is marred, she is talkative and
outgoing women.
Miss. Y: the other main character which she is unmarred lady and she
didn’t utter a word in the entire play.
The theme:
Love: love is something pure and nice, but in this play it presented as a
destruction power and it must be limited, because Miss. Y and Mr. Bob
love each other, and because of their love Mrs. X family got destroyed.
Giving up: we should never give ourselves up and should not change to
someone else completely just because of keeping someone in our lives,
we should be our self for real and respect our self, changes are always
good in Life to get better but not to lose yourself
The plot: it starts by Mrs. X inter the café noticing Miss. Y sitting alone
and sits beside her, afterword Mrs. X start talking about the marriage
life, then the tension starts to arise from their past competition in love
of Mrs. X husband (BOB), and how Mrs. X have a suspects that Miss. Y
and Bob have a secret relationship even though he is her husband.
climax: The climax of the play is when Mrs. x expresses the reality and
tells Miss y "I hate you! Oh, how I hate you!" here she says that she
hates her and she cannot keep a man's love but she can steal it away
4
from others, here we can feel the weakness of Mrs. x and we can see
Miss. y is the stronger.
Irony: "he is really kind, and he is fine little man" (Mrs. X said), here
we can notice the irony clearly, because she mentioned that her
husband is a kind man but in fact he is completely unlike what she said,
he always gets angry nearly about everything.
- I didn't dare to be your enemy so I became your friend" this is irony
because in reality Mrs. x hates miss y, we know that when Mrs. x told
miss y " I hate you, oh I hate you" she said that she is her friend
because she was eaten from inside and want to be near to her (watch
her closely).
-"poor Amelia! Do you know. I'm sorry for you all the same?" it’s an
irony because in M.rs x doesn't feel sorry for miss y, she knows that this
woman had affair with her husband, so she didn’t really pity her.
- there is an irony in the title itself (the stronger) because when we
read the play we can see that Mrs. X isn’t the stronger but Miss. Y is.
- "I know he's faithful to me, you see yes I do know! He told me so
himself" this quotation is Irony said by Mrs. X, this statement isn’t true
because Mrs. x's husband (Bob) is a womanizer and he had a
relationship with miss y too.
5
"I didn't get jealous-strange!" when Miss. Y came to Mrs. X house, Bob
and Miss. Y weren’t friendly to each other, but after Miss. Y
engagement they became so friendly till she showed her true feelings,
this is irony because in reality Mrs. x is jealous.
Images: when Mrs. x tells Miss y that she was like a worm come to an
apple that ate her from the inside, and then she mentions that Miss y
was Like a snake that her eyes hypnotized, then she describes Miss y as
a giant crab lays under the bottom of the water ready to seize her while
her feet are bounded and the more she tries to swim she sank to the
giant crab (Missy) in the bottom of the sea
Monologue: a long speech by one actor in a play or movie, or as part of
a theatrical or broadcast program.
Why the writer uses X and Y for the characters' name not an ordinary
name?
- Because the plot and the conflict of this one act play can happen in
any society of the world so we can replace X and Y by any other name
that we can imagine
