Success Story
Tony Tan Caktiong was born to a poor family in Manila. His parents were
immigrants from China who ran a small restaurant. From a young age, Tony
learned the value of hard work by helping his parents in their restaurant.
After finishing college with a degree in Chemical Engineering, Tony decided to
venture into the food business. He started with two ice cream parlors in 1975.
However, he soon noticed that his customers wanted hot meals as well.
Responding to their needs, Tony decided to serve burgers, fried chicken, and
other hot meals.
This decision led to the creation of Jollibee. Despite initial challenges, Tony’s
dedication to quality and customer service helped Jollibee grow rapidly. The
company introduced unique Filipino flavors and innovative marketing
strategies, which set it apart from other fast-food chains.
Under Tony’s leadership, Jollibee expanded not only in the Philippines but also
internationally. Today, Jollibee Foods Corporation owns multiple food brands
and has thousands of branches worldwide, making it one of the largest and
most successful food companies in Asia.
