INTRODUCTORY RITES
COMMENTATOR:
Today we celebrate Christ the King. On this final
Sunday of the liturgical year, we celebrate Jesus our true
king. Jesus is our king who shepherds us to treat our
neighbors with mercy and love. Jesus is our true king and
judge. Jesus’ style of leadership calls us outside of
ourselves to lead with compassion. Today’s Gospel tells us
that Jesus judges us based on our acts of mercy. Jesus
invites us to deal with the poor and the lowly. Whether we
are hungry, thirsty, or homeless, we must act with mercy
towards others.
Jesus deals with the least and most abandoned among
us. Do we find Christ in those who are in need? Do we
follow Jesus’ example of service?
The heart of Jesus’ message is that as we show mercy
to others, we also show it to him. Jesus is our shepherd, our
king, and our judge. We know that Jesus will judge and lead
us with compassion and love.
Let us bow down our heads and recognize the presence of
God in this Eucharistic Celebration.
Please stand and sing our entrance song.
LITURGY OF THE WORD
FIRST READING
A Reading from the book of the prophet Daniel
As the visions during the night continued, I saw one like a
son of man coming on the clouds of heaven.
When he reached the Ancient One and was presented
before him, He received dominion, glory, and kingship;
nations and peoples of every language serve him.
His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not be
taken away, his kingship shall not be destroyed.
The Word of the Lord.
PEOPLE: Thanks be to God.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM
THE LORD IS KING; HE IS ROBED IN MAJESTY.
1. The LORD is king, in splendor robed.
robed is the LORD and girt about with strength.
Response: The Lord is king; he is robed in majesty.
2. And he has made the world firm, not to be moved. Your
throne stands firm from of old; from everlasting you are, O
LORD.
Response: The Lord is king; he is robed in majesty.
3. Your decrees are worthy of trust indeed, holiness befits
your house, O LORD, for length of days.
Response: The Lord is king; he is robed in majesty.
SECOND READING
A Reading from the Book of Revelation
Jesus Christ is the faithful witness, the first- born from the
dead and ruler of the kings of earth. To him who loves us
and freed us from our sins by his own blood, who has made
us a royal nation of priests in the service of his God and
Father-to him be glory and power forever and ever! Amen.
See, he comes amid the clouds! Every eye shall see him,
even of those who pierced him. All the peoples of the earth
shall lament him bitterly. So, it is to be! Amen!
The Lord God says, "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the
One who is and who was and who is to come, the
Almighty!"
The Word of the Lord.
PEOPLE: Thanks be to God.
GOSPEL
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. John
Pilate said to Jesus, "Are you the King of the Jews?"
Jesus answered, "Do you say this on your own or have
others told you about me?"
Pilate answered, "I am not a Jew, am I?
Your own nation and the chief priests handed you over to
me. What have you done?"
Jesus answered, "My kingdom does not belong to this
world. If my kingdom did belong to this world, my
attendants would be fighting to keep me from being
handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not
here."
So Pilate said to him, "Then you are a king?" Jesus
answered, "You say I am a king. For this I was born and for
this I came into the world, to testify to the truth.
Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice."
The Gospel of the Lord.
PEOPLE: Praise to you Lord, Jesus Christ.

Most sweet Jesus, redeemer of human race, look down
upon us, humbly prostrate before Thine altar. We are
Thine and Thine, we wish to be, but to be more surely
united with Thee, behold each one of us, freely consecrate
ourselves today to Thy Most Sacred Heart. Many indeed
have never known Thee. Many too, despising Thy

most merciful Jesus, draw them to Thy Most Sacred Heart.
Be Thou King, O Lord, not only of the faithful who have
never forsaken Thee but also of the prodigal children who
have abandoned Thee. Grant that they may quickly return
to their Father’s home. Lest they die of wretchedness and
hunger be Thou king of those who are deceived by
erroneous opinions all whom, discard, keeps aloof and call
them back to the harbor of truth and unity of faith. So that
soon there may be but one flock and one shepherd.
Grant, O Lord, to thy Church assurance of freedom and
immunity from harm. Give peace and order to all nations
and make the earth resound from pole to pole with one
cry, praise to the Divine Heart that wrought our salvation.

AN ACT OF CONSECRATION TO THE IMMACULATE
HEART OF MARY
to be led by: Sis. Guada V. Songcuan
O Mary, virgin most powerful and Mother of mercy, Queen
of Heaven and Refuge of Sinners, we consecrate ourselves
to your Immaculate Heart.
We consecrate to you, our being and our whole life, all that
we have, all that we love, all that we are: To You we give
our bodies, our hearts, and our souls, To You we give our
homes, our families, and our country. We desire
everything in us and around us to belong to you and share
in the benefits of your motherly benediction.
In order that this act of consecration be truly efficacious
and lasting, we renew today at your feet our baptismal
promises and those of our first holy communion. We
pledge to be courageous in professing the truths of our
Faith at all times, and to live as practical Catholics,
obedient always to the directives of the Holy Father and
the bishops united with him. We pledge to keep the
commandments of God and of the Church, especially to
keep holy the Day of the Lord. We also pledge to live the
sacramental life of the Church, making the Holy Sacrifice of
the Mass and Holy Communion the center of our Christian
life.
Finally, we promise you, O glorious Mother of God, and
loving Mother of men, to spread devotion to your
Immaculate Heart, in order to hasten and assure, through
the sovereignty of your Heart, the coming of the Kingdom
of the Sacred Heart of your adorable Son, in our hearts,
and in those of all men, in our country and in all the world,
as in Heaven, so on earth.
AMEN
AN ACT OF CONSECRATION TO OUR LADY OF
MANAOAG
to be led by: Sis. Ericka Kwaine A. Quilang
Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, refuge of the human
race, we humbly prostrate ourselves before your throne
confident that we shall receive mercy, grace, assistance
and protection not through our own inadequate merits but
solely through the great goodness of your maternal heart.
May the sight of the widespread material and moral
destruction, the sufferings and sorrows of countless human
beings move you to compassion.
O Mother of Mercy, obtain peace for us from God and
procure for us those graces which prepare, establish and
assure that peace. Queen of Peace, pray for us and give to
the world and the Philippines the peace for which we are
all longing: the peace in the truth, justice and charity of
Christ.
Lastly, O Queen of Heaven, as the Church and the entire
human race are consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
so that in reposing all hope in Him, He might become for
them the pledge of victory and salvation: so we in like
manner consecrate ourselves to you, our Mother and
Queen, that your love and patronage may hasten the
triumph of the Kingdom of God and that all nations at
peace with one another may proclaim you blessed and with
you may raise their voices in the chant of the everlasting
Magnificat of glory, love and gratitude to God in Whom
alone they can find happiness and peace.
AMEN.

HISTORY OF CHRIST THE KING
Christ the King Day was initiated in 1925 by Pope Pius XI as
a response to the spread of secularism in the modern world
and to remind the world of Jesus Christ’s rule on mankind.
Initially a Roman Catholic holiday celebrated on the last
Sunday of October, many Christian denominations have
since adopted the holiday.
The holiday’s origins can be traced back to Pope Pius XI’s
view that Jesus Christ is the eternal ruler of the world. This
truth is underlined and outlined throughout history in
gospels, novels, and art, where Jesus Christ is constantly
shown at the center of compositions and is referred to in
venerable, regal terms. According to legend, Jesus Christ is
worshiped by all angels and mortals, and everyone is
subject to him and must recognize his reign as a result of
Christ’s hypostatic union with all creatures on Earth and
beyond.
In a modern world that has since come to know anti-
religious ideologies such as fascism and communism, the
celebrations act as a way to ground the human race back
to Earth in recognition of God and the benevolence of
Christ. In general, the roles of a good King include the
ability to bring order into lives, unify the people, convey
the truth, protect the people from harm, and do what is
best for them. For those in the Christian and Catholic
faiths, Jesus Christ exemplifies all the traits of a good King
as he fulfills all the traits that compel his followers to live
proper lives.
Thus, the celebrations remind Catholics and Christians of
Jesus Christ’s eternal authority over the world, as it is the
only kind of authority that is not temporal and fleeting. The
United States Conference of Catholic Bishops simplifies the
solemn day as a reminder that while governments come
and go, Christ reigns as King of the world forever.
