Restoring Tulshibag Temple Complex,
Pune

This temple complex is conceived as a temple to

lord Rama at the south of Pune City between
1760 and 1790 by one Naro Appaji Khire and his
son. The use of wood, stone and lime stucco
work on brick has yielded a superlative example
of what could be achieved as a synthesis of
northern and southern styles of temple building
at that time.
STRUCTURAL ASPECTS OF CONSERVATION

Large scale concretization of the riverbank seen in the foreground detracts from the appearance
of the well built stone ghats in the centre of the picture. Such despoiling of landscape needs to be
countered by planting shrubs or runners that will withstand the intense radiation of heat from the
concrete surface.
