ILLUSTRATED TOOL AND EQUIPMENT MANUAL
INTRODUCTION
1 Purpose
This Manual provides ATR customers with information on tools and ground equipment (including test and trouble
shooting equipment) required for the accomplishment of all maintenance work as described in the Aircraft
Maintenance Manual.
This Manual does not deal with standard tools and equipment.
However, it does cover the particular adaptations required for their operation.
Ground equipment such as passenger stairways, baggage loading device, towing truck, etc… which is
considered as airport equipment is not covered in this document.
The information supplied is more or less comprehensive depending on whether the tool or equipment is
of a complex nature, or not.
In the case of a complex tool or equipment requiring specific information on its operation, maintenance
and overhaul, the Manual gives identification data and cross-reference to Ground Equipment Manuals.
In the case of a tool requiring no specific information, the Manual gives identification data for that tool and, if
required, for the tool components.
2 Contents
This Manual is prepared in accordance with ATA 100 specification recommendations and is broken down into
specified chapter format, each introduced by a List of Effective Pages and Table of Contents.
A. Chapter 0 – Introduction
This chapter consists of:
-1 A Revision Transmittal Sheet.
-2 Highlights.
-3 Record of Revisions.
-4 A List of Effective Pages.
-5 A Table of Contents of ATA chapters and tools.
-6 An Alpha-numeric index of tools and ground equipment.
-7 Tools inspections index.
-8 Alpha-numeric index of Vendor’s codes (FSCM’s).
-9 An introduction covering the following topics: purpose, contents, tool and equipment part number,
manufacturer, tool and ground equipment effectivity, multiple applicability, interchangeability between
tools or equipment, tool and ground equipment component effectivity, as well as the page and illustration
numbering.

B. ATA format chapters
Each general ATA chapter (01, 05, 06 etc.) is introduced by an intercalary page which is not numbered and not
listed in the List of Effective Pages.
Each numbered chapter is composed of technical sheets prepared in accordance with the recommandations of
the ATA spec. No. 100.
Each tool or ground equipment is composed of two types of technical sheets.
-1 The first type shows a perspective view of the tool, a phantom view locating the area where the tool or
equipment is used, the title and the number of this view.
-2 The second type presents two possible variants:
(a) The first variant gives the following information:
Designation, part number, description, weight and overall dimensions, effectivity, manuals
which
refer to the tool or equipment, the possible interchangeability with other tools or equipment, the
vendor code (FSCM's) corresponding and in some cases a few complementary various
information.
(b) This technical sheet shall be always placed on right hand page.
component parts list.
This technical sheet shall be always placed on right hand page.
3 Aircraft models classification
All ATR aircraft are classified in documentation into three families of models which are ATR 42, ATR 42-400/500 Series
and ATR 72 Series.
ATR Aircrafts are also classified into standard groups containing all different configurations, as shown below.
ATR 42:
ST1: - ATR 42-200
- ATR 42-300
- ATR 42-320
ATR 42-400/500 Series:
ST4: - ATR 42-400
ST5: - ATR 42-500 (including the version "42-600")
ATR 72 Series:
ST2: - ATR 72-101
- ATR 72-201
- ATR 72-211
ST3: - ATR 72-102
- ATR 72-202
- ATR 72-212
- ATR 72-212A (including the version "72-600")

4 Tool and equipment part number
The tool or equipment part number is assigned by the manufacturer of said tool or equipment. It is indicated in the
second paragraph of the corresponding technical sheet.
5 Manufacturer
The tool or equipment Vendor’s FSCM code (Federal Supplies Code Manufacturer) is shown in the technical sheets
of each tool or equipment.
All Vendor’s codes (FSCM) are listed in alpha-numeric Vendor’s codes index.
6 Tool and equipment effectivity
The effectivity of the tool or equipment is shown in the alpha-numeric index of tools and ground equipment by three
columns corresponding to aircraft series (ATR 42; ATR 42-400/500 Series; ATR 72 Series).
The effectivity by aircraft series is also shown on technical sheets for each tool or ground equipment.
In the case of an effectivity more specific than the aircraft series (Aircraft Standard, MSN validity, Mod. validity,
SB’s, etc.), details are shown on the corresponding technical sheet.
For a given tool or equipment, when no effectivity is specified in the relevant columns of the index of tools and
ground equipment, see the corresponding technical sheet for specific effectivity.
7 Multiple applicability
Some tools or items of equipment have applicability in several ATA 100 chapters. In this case, the tool or equipment
only appears in the chapter in which the major usage occurs.
8 Interchangeability
Two types of interchangeability between tools or ground equipment are possible:
A. An interchangeability “Same as” between tools or ground equipment corresponds to an interchangeability
between identical tools or ground equipment allowing to perform the same operation.
As per definition, an optionality “Same as“ is applicable reciprocally between the two tools
or ground equipment.
B. An interchangeability “Optional to” between tools or ground equipment corresponds to an interchangeability
between different tools or ground equipment allowing to perform the same operation with different processes.
As per definition, an optionality “Optional to“ is not applicable reciprocally between the two tools or ground
equipment but in the direction specified only.

9 Tool and equipment component effectivity
Indicates the installation effectivity of the item with respect to the variants of the next higher assembly, in cases of
restricted installation effectivity.
For a given item, when no effectivity is specified in the relevant column, its item is valid for all next higher
assemblies.

10 Page and illustration numbering
A. Page numbering
The page numbering shall follow the tool number inside the ATA chapter. The first tool will be the number 1,
the second tool will be the number 2, the third the number 3, etc.
The first page of tool is always an illustration sheet and shall be followed by a “0”.
Then, the text page of tool is incremented, and shall be followed by a “1”.
There shall always be an Illustration page facing a Text page.
When the parts list or note is too long for only one page, a second text page is created. For to observe the
illustration and text pages ranking, the illustration will be repeated or a new one will be created in front of
second text page.
When the parts list or note is too long for only two pages, a third text page is created following the same logic.
All pages of tool are incremented.
Inside each chapter the tool numbering is restarted, and accordingly the pages numbering is also restarted.
In fact the first page of each chapter is always a page “1 - 0”.

B. Illustration numbering
All the illustrations of a given tool are always incremented, except when the same illustration is just repeated in
the case of a too long parts list or note as explained previously. In this case, the illustration "1" for example
stays the illustration "1" as many times it is repeated.
For each tool, the illustration numbering is restarted.
In fact the first illustration of each tool is always the illustration “1”.
If, for technical reasons, an illustration is missing, the corresponding illustration page is present and shall
contain the note.
